Beach Hotel Du Lac

We returned this year to the Hotel Du Lac and found it was even better than before. We have been going to Malcesine for almost twenty years and a few years ago discovered this hotel. The hotel itself is perfectly positioned just by the lakeside and a delightful stroll away from Malcesine itself. The views are magnificent and from our room on the 3rd floor we could see both lake and mountains. When this was a tired 3 star hotel prior to it's makeover to a 4 star, it was a peaceful and friendly hotel, well worth the cheap price to stay there. However, there have been some developments since then, the most significant being, if you're a snob travelling in Italy like me, the hotel is now taking group bookings and therefore large parties are tuning up, disrupting the tranquility of the whole area, let alone the hotel. We got married in Malcesine in Aug this year and 16 of our friends and family also came with us. The hotel was great esp as everyone wanted to stay different dates and it was really easy to organise via email. We stayed in one of the suite rooms which was lovely and perfect for all the girls to get ready in on the big day!! The pool area is a good size and really clean. Booked with Inghams 2 couples in pool view rooms. One ok, the other much smaller and below pool level. Definite bias in dining room seating Brits at the back. Austrian/German guests enjoy lake views at front of Restaurant. Some Aust/Germ guests had their dogs with them, paraded through dining areas at various times, one regularly with its owner for breakfast on the Lakeside terrace with other Guests.One dog actually stopped to relieve himself against a condiment trolley on the terrace at breakfast time! only had a couple of small complaints about this lovely hotel. the German speaking guests were given the best seats for dinner, with lake views every night, the Brits were stuck at the back and nobody got to move! otherwise staff were very friendly and helpful. Also the food was not up to 4 star standards every night. It was often cold and the vegetables very mushy. We have just returned from a wonderful holiday having stayed at the Du Lac. We were fortunate enough to stay in the room on the roof which commands a fantastic view of the lake and surrounding mountains. This particular room affords complete privacy too. I stayed at this hotel last year with my daughter shortly after the refurbishments had taken place and I'm pleased to say the standards remain high. Food and service was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. We fully intend to return again next year!

We stayed at the Hotel Du Lac in May for 10 days. Having stayed in Malcensine before we knew the area but this hotel surpassed our expectations. We booked a superior room , which has a lake view with a balcony. With superb food , service and location I would recommend this hotel without hestitation. Edward and June Neal.

Tastefully modernised hotel in a perfect location with beautiful views from lake facing balconies. Excellent value for money four course evening meal, worth trying - might not wish to go anywhere else to eat! We arrived at 8.45 without booking a meal but they still served us. The pool side of the hotel is very nice as well. Friendly staff. End of May (Whit week) was very wet and cold, recommend earlier in May or more into June. A really great family run hotel recently refurbished to a high standard. Magnificent position, right on the lake with superb views. Staff very friendly and most helpful. Rooms very comfortable and well equiped. Food good with plenty of variety. Great swimming pool. Excellent value

If you want peace and quiet, amazing lake and mountain views from your balcony and the terrace, and charming Italian hosts and staff, you can do no better than stay at this lovely hotel. Right on the lake side with a road one side (go for the lake view rooms with no road) and a path for walkers and (silent) cyclists on the other, you will breakfast and dine (choose whether to dine at the hotel or not each day) yards from the lake where it laps the shoreline.
