Not luxury as expected but very good service
The bad points: We booked 2 rooms as a treat for our daughter, her partner and ourselves to stay the night before her graduation. We were asked to pay a non-refundable deposit of £50 per room at the time of booking, which was 75% of the cost of the rooms (without the additional cost of breakfast). The rooms booked were 'standard' rooms. We were expecting a luxury experience but were disappointed. Some areas of the hotel are very tired and in need of repair, renovation and there are areas that show this very clearly,... more
Hotel under bad ownership
This hotel is plainly under bad ownership with the owner of the hotel being extremley rude and arguementative. Not what you would expect!!! The place is under staffed and looks as though inadequate training has been given. My stay was absolutley appauling, with severe plumbing issues in the bathroom and cleanliness levels low. The place hasnt got a star rating which i am not suprised about. I would advise people not to stay in this hotel.
2 for 1 meals
We have taken up the offer for 2 for 1 meals in the past and had a lovely meal and evening but the last visit left alot to be desired. The dessert was hardly edible and the coffee was nothing more than coloured water. Having asked for fresh coffees - the second offering was not much better and the staff did not seem to be interested and certainly did not seem pleased to help make their guests feel happy. On the whole a disappointing evening experienced.
excellent dinner but disappointing hotel
The website shows the hotel in an excellent light but in reality the hotel disappointed immediately. Arrival entrance and car park are actually at the rear of the property. Entrance would be difficult to define had it not been for the red carpet leading up the steps to the main entrance. Relatively long walk through covered, tiled room, up more stairs to bar. Strange reception is a very small desk in the bar area. Asked for afternoon tea in library. Told no chef so not available - only availbale in summer. Asked for tea and snacks... more
exellent food
Stayed at this hotel on business . Food out of this world up to London standard. Restaurant manager a bit aloof at times when needed .
Wonderful Hotel
What a beautiful Hotel, set in stunning grounds myself and my partner stay here often to get away and the rooms are out of this world. The service from all staff and the food is fantastic...I cannot fault this hotel. Thank you very much Sarah & Simon
Fab food, nasty bathroom
We visited the hotel for a 2 night mid-week break in early February as we wanted a relaxing break, but close enough to Norwich. The reception area is strange - a desk placed close to the bar area, but we were nicely welcomed and shown to our room. Room lovely, beautiful four poster bed, nicely furnished, flat screen tv etc, although on closer inspection there were some stains on the bedspread. It was the bathroom that badly let everything down. It was minute - a door from the wardrobe takes you into something no bigger than a... more
Simply excellent
Stayed here for 2 nights in early November 2006. Location is fine; in the peaceful countryside but no more than 10-15 mins by car from the centre of Norwich. Room was pleasant - with comfortable bed - and more character than the normal business type hotel. However, what sets the place apart is (a) the food and (b) the staff. The food is superb and very good value for money. The staff are pleasant and helpful and the whole place has a much more personal feel to it than most other establishments. If you are in the Norwich... more
Excellent!!
I want to start by saying the food in the Al a carte restaurant was magnificent. It was the most delicious food I have tasted in a long time. It was truley fine dining, I highly recommend it.. My room was very quaint and served its purpose. I was visiting Norwich on business as I often do so I will most certainly be staying here again..
What an excellent establishment
My wife and I stayed as I was in the area combining business with pleasure. The room was small but nicely furnished (although we did have to request a 2nd chair). The staff were all friendly and attentive. It was however the food that was the highlight. There is a seriously good chef at work here! The meal we had in the restaurant was Michelin standard. Even the bar meal we had on the delightful terrace was out of the ordinary. The wine list was eclectic and reasonably priced with a refreshingly different choice. When we stayed there were no... more
A beautiful Building in a tranquil setting
After staying at Caistor Hall quite a few years ago, I had heard that it was now in new hands so was looking forward to my visit. When arriving i was greeting with the same building looking nice with many of its old features still remaining. The Gardens were beautiful and well maintained. One entering the building i was happily surprised that it still maintained its same feel but with a modern twist as well, the decore had been updated and fitted in beautifully. My room was perfect I had a nice double bed and all the facilities that I... more
What a disappointment
It's a bit of a shame really. We went to Caistor Hall for a wedding and were one of the first people to book a room. We have an infant so I mentioned we would need a family room and were told we had one of the best rooms. We were sent confirmation and a letter stating we could only check in at 3pm which was the time of the wedding. This was the first annoying thing. This was however reolved when the bride complained. When we arrived we it was a very hot day and on entering the room which was old fashioned, dusty and in much need... more
