dated rooms
If you would like an insite into the 1950`s,book a room here.We could not believe the state of all three rooms that we booked for a family holiday. We obviously complained and following 2hrs of arguing we were given different rooms that were better but still well below the standard one would expect. The excuse given was that it was to expensive to refurbish all the hotel rooms because they did not need them all exept during busy periods.Having said that, the meals were of reasonable quality with good service and choice. All things... more
Dated but good
Came to teach on a residential course here. The bad bits first: The hotel is sandwiched between a busy road and a railway line. The decor is dated: loudly patterned crimson carpets etc. The walls are relatively thin and my bathroom was 1980s yellow, and there were sheets rather than a roll of toilet paper - but soft toilet paper. The small swimming pool looks dirty because it could do with a lick of paint. The alarm clock in my room wouldn't work and didn't get changed although I reported it. But DON'T be put off. The good bits outweigh... more
Lovely Hotel
My friend and I stayed at the Livermead Hotel in Torquay. We hadn't booked and merely turned up in Torquay. The hotel has a large carpark. The receptionist Joanne was very helpful and accommodating. We requested for rooms with a seaview. My friend was given a room to the side of the hotel, still with a seaview. I think I had the best room in the hotel, with a lovely seaview, a kingsize bed and a small living area. Breakfast was served until 9.45am. We were allocated a table for each of the three mornings we were there. There was a... more
Beautiful Hotel, Lovely Location
Have just spent a long weekend at this superb hotel and found everything about it excellent, from the moment we rang to place our reservation to the moment we checked out, the management and staff on reception, in the bar and restaurant and housekeeping were all very cheerful and courteous and nothing was too much touble whatsoever. The surroundings, food, rooms and location could not be faulted. Will recommend this hotel to family and friends who are looking for that little bit of something 'extra special' for their money.
old world class
This hotel has retained the old world style and decor that make it stand out from the crowd, large carpark level access to the hotel and two lifts to the floors made it comfortable and the food is excellent.
Drive on by........................
Brochure must have been printed at least 40 years ago. Inside and out very shabby Pricing is of the scale ( Explains the fancy Merc outside) Rooms are tiny Carpet in bathroom is very UNHYGIENIC, boxes of tracing paper for toilet roll. Snooker room - still looking Pool - would not let mt dog paddle in it. pillows - they forgot to put the stuffing in them Beds - lay at an angle Breakfast - stick to toast, fruit & cereal (at least they can't do much wrong with these) Rooms had cobwebs, paper... more
Fantastic Holiday
We came here for a holiday after the hotel was recommended to us by friends who said it was a great place to stay. I am so glad we did. The room was really spacious with a view over the bay. The room was well furnished and very clean. The restaurant was very nice with views across the bay. There was a very extensive menu for dinner, we were spoilt for choice and the food was extremely good. The bar and lounge areas were very well maintained. The staff and management were efficient and very friendly. The hotel also had a large pool with... more
High Cost, Low Service
I stayed in this hotel over the second May bank holiday weekend in 2005. I have stayed in many hotels all over the world and I don't think I have ever experienced such a high price for such poor facilities or service. The low points of the stay were: ·Single glazing that meant that the sea-view was accompanied by incessant road noise ·Having to ask for ice with drinks orders ·Unhelpful restaurant staff that were unwilling to give us a pre-assigned table at breakfast because “the others are already set for dinner.”<br... more
Help the aged should inspect!
This really was a shocker of a hotel. I have spent the last 4 years travelling the world staying in various grades of hotel. Never have I experienced anything quite as bad as the Livermead House. Rude, ignorant, condescending staff Small (cupboard like) rooms Tiny and uncomfortable beds (mouse sized made of wire) Walls made of paper Breakfast made of cardboard This hotel is a rip off. It charges for £100 a night and gets away with it as the generally older clients haven't got the stamina to complain. Its a... more
Just like Fawlty Towers, but not funny AT ALL!
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights over a bank holiday weekend in May 2005. I can honestly say that this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, and we were very disappointed to say the least considering the cost (£100 per room per night). It was truly awful and I would not recommend that anyone stays here at all. The majority of staff were very rude and unhelpful, especially the manager, and the standards of the hotel were way below the 3* advertised. The room was tiny and the bed was hardly bigger than a single bed, although... more
