Villa Soro

We stayed at Villa Soro for two evenings in late July during the jazz festival. The hotel is within 5-10 minutes of the Gros neighborhood and one of the beaches. It is closer to 20-25 minutes from the historic center of town. This worked very well for us as we enjoyed being a bit away from the center of things. Yes this is a very upmarket well appointed hotel with impeccable service. It is also very expensive and some would say overpriced. We have just spent 3 weeks travelling through pyrenees and catalonia and out of all the places we stayed we liked this least. It is characterless and sterile and we would not recommend it if you are looking for a Spanish experience - you could be anywhere. We wished we had stayed in one of the places in the town itself. Villa Soro is quite a way out although you can borrow bicycles.

The Villa Soro, while not in the heart of San Sebastian , is a wonderful place to stay. We were concerned with the location at first, but, the walk from the hotel to the old town took only 20 minutes, during San Sebastian "waslking rush hour." It also is a 10 minute walk to a less crowded, much more beautiful (in my opinion) beach. The hotel staff is wonderful, making restuarant suggestions and and letting us borrow the hotel bikes and beach towels for a full day. My husband and I stayed at Villa Soro in early May and absolutely loved it. As with the other reviews, we could not fault the service, it is extremely quiet despite being on a busy road and the villa has a wonderful ambience. Our room was beautifully furnished and we had a terrace which faced on to the street. They also secured a lunch booking at Arzak for us which is truly the best restaurant we have ever been to - we had been to El Bulli a few days before and thats just been rated top restaurant in the world!!! My husband and I spent two days at the Villa Soro in late May. It rained the whole time we were in San Sebastian, so the hotel's location was not ideal, but the 10 minute walk to restaurants and shopping areas was certainly manageable. We didn't see any other hotels that were more convenient that we would have stayed in anyway. The hotel itself is a gem. We went to San Sebastian in order to try several of the famed restaurants in the area. We chose Villa Soro based on the recommendations here and found it to be fine place to stay. On an absolute scale of service, luxury, etc. we would rate it as a 3.5-4 Stars. When factoring in value, it moves up to 4-4.5. We had a standard room which was in the modernised buliding behind the main house. Stayed here over X-mas, and couldn't have been happier with the Villa Soro. The staff was incredibly warm and helpful. We asked for reservations at a good seafood restaurant, as many were closed over the holidays. The receptionist called 3 restaurants before she could find us a table. Then she called up to our room to tell us that she had thought of a better restaurant, and had booked us there instead! I have recently returned from a short stay at Villa Soro and can honestly say that it is the best small boutique hotel I have ever stayed at. The hotel is a beautifully restored villa, with tasteful and stylish furnishings, a wonderful log fire, stunning, spacious bedrooms, and marble bathrooms. The breakfasts are excellent and the staff beyond helpful This is the only place to stay in San Sebastian it is also located near to one of the best restaurants in the world - Arzak I urge anyone to stay here

Villa Soro is one of the most well-appointed hotels I have ever had the pleaure of staying in. The hotel is a beautifully photogenic chalet more akin to an upscale seaside bed-and-breakfast. Skylights wonderfully illuminate the second floor court yard. Bathroom appliances are state-of-the art. The heart of town is mere blocks away. I can't guarantee that you will be as lucky as we were but the staff was able to get us into Arzac which is normally booked months in advance. Not recommended for the budget traveller. Stayed in this Hotel during the weekend of the Heineken Rugby Match, best service in down. Excellent Bedrooms, Great Breakfast. Well worth staying in this hotel
