Dale Lodge Hotel

We made a late booking for a Bank Holiday weekend, and were unable to get into our regular Hotel (the Regent at Ambleside...excellent btw). The rate was high, so we expected high standards from a deluxe room at a "discounted" rate of £153 per night for B&B. The Hotel is in a great spot and the Tweedies Bar is excellent (slow bar service when busy though). We stayed at this hotel because it was recommended by a friend to us. They had loved it and raved about it for weeks, so when we went we thought it can't be as good as they said but it was better!! The setting is amazing, gardens all around the hotel and lovely views of the mountains around. The glorious weather, which was really unexpected in October added to this too, coz we sat outside and had lunch in the garden. To keep this short, the staff are rude, the meals are very poor and if you decide to make comment's to the Management, dont bother as not interested. Worst Hotel I have ever stopped in!!

My hubby and I have enjoyed a lovely weekend at Dale Lodge for our wedding anniversary atthe end of July. The hotel has had a recent refurb and our room was nice though the bathroom hadn't yet been redecorated but was clean. The food in the hotel was amazing and the adjoining pub was jumping! and also had great food. The only negative was that whilst everyone was pleasant enough, they weren't exactly friendly. The village of Grasmere is a beautiful place and I would definitely recommend a visit.

Was slighly put off from this hotel by reading some of the previous reviews however I took my husband here for his birthday last weekend and we had a fantastic time. Dale lodge is set in the heart of grassmere village but set back from the road in lovely grounds. The staff were very freindly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable with good views and the food was fantastic. We felt really relaxed and welcome at dale lodge. Dale Lodge has been completly ruined this used 2 b a place were u were priviliged to go to Dale lodge used to be filled with love happiness laughter and when u were there you felt like u were at home but with luxury and in a space of no time at all this wonderful place has been turned into like so many hotels now modern if u want 2 go somewere were u want this then its ok but if u want somewere, were you feel like your welcome to come in with moddy boots after a walk around the beautiful lake district and curl up by a masive fire and have... more

We stayed in Dale Lodge in between xmas and new year at a very reasonable rate. The hotel is under renovation and I imagine when it is finished the rates will rise. We had a wonderful stay the staff were very obliging without exception. However- the chef is outstanding - I hope they pay him enough as we visit grasmere regularly and have never had such wonderful food and hope to sample it on our next visit!. Had a brilliant time at the hotel. Meals were superb. Glad the location was magnificent as a walk after dinner helped us get rid of those extra calories.

Under some renovation when we were there, this hotel is super value. The food is excellent being freshly made from local produce and the decor inside in both the public spaces is stylish. If you are looking for a tastefully designed contemporary ambience with excellent food then go no further. Excellent value for money. The owners are on site and take great interest in what is going on and the chef is of the highest quality.

My girlfriend and I booked into this hotel for one night. We were impressed by the large garden and stylish public areas - all coffee browns and creams, fresh and up-to-date. We were shown our room, and although it was a disappointment, it was 'only for one night'. After checking in we went for a walk. On returning, closer inspection of the room revealed curtains that contained more cobweb than fabric, even a spiders' nest in there! We were entranced by the lovely atmosphere of what we came to call the "picnic bar"---- Tweedy's Pub with a lovely lawn, serving delicious top-notch food (elegantly presented fish dishes) along with pub fare---- we enjoyed our pints while our 5 year old son ran around the lawn with the other children. A new restaurant is in the works there (as of early August 04) and our room was quite comfortable with a nice view of distant mountains.
