This is not a 5 star hotel, maybe a 3 star hotel
We arrive at the hotel for check in, the staff was unorganized and we were left standing around for a while. Finally got a ride to our room. There was standing water in the bathroom near the toilet from a leak, dirt in the outdoor shower, the plunge pool was not clean, overall the room was not up to par with even a 4 star hotel. For $750+ a night, we would expect much much more. The grounds of the hotel were average, a lot of standing water breeding mosquito's and that stagnant water smell. Felt like we were in a swamp, not a beach... more
loved the romance at paraiso
Just got back from a short break at paraiso de la bonita. We stayed there for two nights after staying for five nights in cancun. We loved the quiet ambience of this luxury retreat after the busy cancun hotel zone. The service was attentive- they even folded your clothes for you on the sunloungers while you swam in the pool. The pool was surrounded by luscious plants and had a large jaccuzzi tub in as well comfortable sunloungers as wide as a double bed. The cocktails and service were great from the pool bar, which had a great... more
A true Paradise
We stayed at the paraiso the last seven days in july and it was just beautiful. We did not plan to stay at the paraiso but because the hotel we booked was closed after the hurricane Emely, we kind of choose the paraiso by coincidence. We were really surprised about the hotel, the rooms and the food. Also the service is just great... the only thing we could mention is that the beach has not had the turquoise known from postcards or other riviera maya beaches and had little seaweed... Don't know if the beach was still suffering from the... more
Not a great beach, but if you like the ocean, read this !
Whether its true the beach can be dissapointing, I am surprised nobody mentioned the beautifull and very long wooden dock that lies right infront of the hotel. It has got beach chairs on it, under huge palapas, and it allows you to swim in deeper (but still safe) water, where sea weed is not an issue. The sensation of lying so close to the waves, feeling the breeze is just amazing. We all have been to beautifull beaches, but this dock I mention trully provides a different experience. You can also have snacks and drinks delivered there.<br... more
right time for romance
Has this ever happened to you? I call it Murphy's law of romance and travel. You go on countless vacations with your romantic partner and never seem to get that upgrade to a suite with a jacuzzi? Or that room with a fireplace on a cold night in Provence? Well, I had an opportunity to travel to Mexico with one of my best friends last month. May is a great time to travel to the Riviera Maya as it is low season and great deals abound. So I decided to stay at Paraiso de la Bonita, and proceeded to call Classic Custom Vacations to see what... more
A great escape
We just spent 4 nights at Paraiso (May 11-15). Overall, we had a wonderful time, but, as previously stated in other reviews, for the money there were some problems. The ride from the airport was definitely better than waiting for the usual Cancun transportation, although we did have to wait about 10 minutes for the ride to begin. Once at at the resort, the rooms were fabulous: comfortable beds, great bathroom and toiletries, nice sitting room and balcony, adequate A/C. The pool was the perfect temperature and relaxing, but our main... more
Fab Resort marred by Bank of America takeover
We spent a week at the Paraiso in March. Although we thought the resort was spectacular, we were also very much put off by the arrival of a large corporate group. We thought perhaps it was an isolated incident, but now see that it is apparently a pattern for the Paraiso. Our first two days there were great, but then Bank of America arrived. Sections of the resort were indeed closed to paying guests at times and during the day the pool areas became large conference rooms full of loud talk of auto dealerships and computers as the BoA... more
check before you set your dates...will IBM be there?
Great service, great food, wonderful rooms, beautiful views and the staff is very friendly. We returned for the quiet relaxing romantic experience we have had in our past visits. Resort needs to decide if they want to continue with the ambience they have always had or shut the resort down to other guest when they book large groups such IBM. It was very unfair to go for a quiet vacation and find out once you get there a large amount of the resort has been booked to a loud group. We still had a great time but the paradise we had found in the... more
Nice, but not worth the price...
The hotel is very nice. It is an attractive piece of property with a very friendly staff. The beach is ok, but the seaweed is a bit much (exists because of the protection from the currents by the reef). This really isn’t a big deal since you spend most of your time by their pool anyway. We found breakfast to be really good. Lunch at the new grill (by the water sports area) was really good, but we thought dinner was very over-rated. Maybe we’re spoiled by the phenomenal restaurants where we live. Unless you’re going on one of... more
Nice, but over priced.
The service was excellent. The staff ratio is 2:1 staff:guest. They were always friendly. The beach was sheltered by a reef, so the waves are gentle. The beach was groomed every morning. All the restaurants were good, in fact near the top in quality I have been to in Mexico. The rooms are nice, but are far from plush. They are fairly cheaply made, but cleverly designed. The pools are 1.2 meters deep, but nice. However, at approx 600 USD a night, I have been to much nicer resorts. Bear in mind the minimum wage in Mexico is 3 USD a... more
