Awana Porto Malai Langkawi

I visited the Awana Porto Malai during September with some friends and was slightly skeptical after reading some of the reviews posted, but found the hotel to be absolutely fantastic. We stayed there for 11 nights and were very pleased. We booked a pool view room but received a free upgrade to an ocean view room. The views were stunning. The pool was perfect on hot days. We stayed at Porto Malai for a night. For RM150 I paid per night, I said that it is excellent. We got a upgraded room with a big balcony facing the sea. The hotel has a grand exterior but yet relaxing environment. It is quiet and has excellent scenaries. It has great kid pools. The hotel faces east. It never got too hot while we were there. Me and my wife got to know about this resort through internet only. We booked a Superior Sea View Room for 3 days and 2 nights in April, 2006. Our first impression when we reached the resort was "WOW it looks great". And throughout our stay we were impressed by the hospitality, location, cleanliness, service, food and cheerful smiles. I just return to Langkawi after 9 years of gap. Decided to stay in the much said meditarenean Awana Porto Malai. I must say I was disappointed with the hotel. I think too much publicity has been given, and the hotel is too over-rated. For a shoe-string traveller, it offers value. But for ordinary person looking for an escape and relaxation, this is definitely not the place. The upside of this hotel is that it has got nice sea facing rooms. The service rendered was also above average. However the downside what that it did NOT have a beach. Going to Langkawi without having a hotel with access to a beach is a big NO NO. The rooms were adequate but I cannot understand why is the wash basin in the room and NOT the bathroon. I like Awana Porto Malai hotel, like the scenery of the hotel, facilities, architecture, rich breakfast buffet :) ........... eventhough the room is not big, but equipped with 2 queen size bed...

Months before our honeymoon was due, my husband booked the package on the internet.. I have been troubled with the reviews I've read here.. Those reviews dampened my spirits as the honeymoon getting nearer.. I've tried to ask people around but to no avail.. But as I reached the Langkawi's airport, we were approached by a lovely gentlemen with our names on the signage.. The hotel is quite secluded to the southern part of the island.. hi to all of member here... i just came back from my honeymoon at awana porto malai for 4 days and 3 nights.....i'm glad to told you that all comment here are NOT TRUE..... i booked 3 days 2 nights for lover's package and add one night more and cost me around a thousand ringgit.... all restaurants NOT close down as you said.... and the staffs of restaurants very nice to me and my wife....thank you so much. second they not shut down the electricity as you said....this hotel using open receptionist hall within they not used... more

I’ve just came back from a Langkawi trip. It was totally sucked. I booked a four days package from Awana Porto Malai (2 Island Escape Packages for Rm520+Rm160 upgrade to deluxe seaview room). First of all, all the shops and restaurants have closed down, including Boardwalk Cafe, Terazza, The Yachtsman (faults advertising on their websites), for good I was told, except for a duty-free liquor/cigarette store and a small souvenir shop and the main lobby restaurant. I spend 8 days 7 nights at langkawi. stayed at awana porto malai langkawi. did some "research" regarding the hotel prior to the trip and was really attracted and excited. however when i reach there i was terribly disappointed. first most of the "attractions" within the hotel were already not available. most were closed or replaced by worse stalls/shops.secondly was really depressed by the services rendered by the staffs there.
