Casita de Maya

We could not have asked for a better place to stay for our first visit to Cozumel. Excellent accommodations ... great host... top notch help with restaurant suggestions serving great food at an affordable price!! Whatever we would like to do on our vacation we just asked Dan and he was there for us...we were treated like friends... like family! Staying at Casita de Maya was the culmination and the high point of our 18 day vacation in Yucatan. The hotel itself is fabulous; a lovely room with a pool just outside the door, fridge, a/c, fresh cold water, etc., etc., etc. The location is also wonderful. It's close to the airport, a $2 USD cab ride to the tourist area and beaches, in a residential neighborhood, and very near some great restaurants. What can we say that others reviews haven't? Not much. This is a fantastic place run by a great guy. While others have mentioned the great layout and beautiful rooms, the friendly atmosphere, and the dogs & cat. No one has mentioned the frog that lives in the right speaker (on the stereo). By day, it's the speaker, by night, it's the cat's water dish. This place has so much character, intimate rooms, a lovely pool, and it's amazing the bargains you can find nearby. We, a freshly married couple from Germany, found this little paradise through the internet, and we finally went there and got married on the Island of Cozumel, right by the carribean sea, after the ceremony we did have a small, fine party at the casita de maya...thanks Dan-THE MAN, he was the most helpful, hospital person we have ever met while travelling....His great connections all over the Island made our wedding and our honeymoon the BEST....Dan is making you feel comfortable and home...his place is highly recommended if you expect from... more

My family and I stayed at this wonderful little place in Cozumel. This is one of the best kept secrects in the entire Mexican Carribean. It is quiet, out of the way and close to the airpoirt, yet it is accesible to all areas easlily by taxi or bus. The prices are great and so is the company. I usually stay at large resorts to stay on the safe side but this time I stayed at Casita De Maya from 6/9/to 6/17/2005 and was completely DELIGHTED. The room I had was very well equipted including TV/VCR/DVD, comfortable queen bed with great pillows, very good (not cheap) sheets and towels, hairdryer, alarm w/soothing sounds, small fridge, microwave, dresser, ample closet w/shelves, AC, and a magnificent shower. I have one thing to say about Casita de Maya...WOW! My husband and I stayed there on our honeymoon and it was awesome. Not some big resort where you are just one of thousands. This hotel only has 4 rooms! We were the only ones there so we had the whole place to ourselves! The pool is gorgeous, the rooms are truly are incredible. The feel of the entire place is comfortable and extremely clean. Dan, the owner was there waiting for us when we got off the plane with a cooler full of ice cold beer. Although I did not actually stay at the hotel I thought our experience with the owner to be worth a note. After spending a few days in Isla Mujeres we thought we would make our way to Cozumel, (been there about times) and fly home out of there instead. Emailed the hotel and he booked a room for us for the Friday night. We made our way to Cozumel and arrived about four hours later. We just returned from Cozumel and stayed at Casita de Maya. The small quaint hotel was perfect. We hotel was very clean at all times. The proprieter was very accommodating and gracious. We enjoyed the swimming pool which was a few steps from our door. With only a few rooms and few quests you are treated very personable. I would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting private home surroundings, a private pool to relax in all day long and the true feeling of a real Yucatan vacation.

Stay at Casita de Maya only if you want a relaxing trip with an awesome host. The host and owner Dan not only knows everything about the Island, but is also a great guy to hang out with. The rooms were very clean and up to date. My wife and I really enjoyed the cozy feel of the grounds and relaxing to the XM radio while playing cards. We are so glad we didn't go to a big all inclusive! Casita De Maya was a fabulous place to stay. The rooms are beautiful with all the amenities you could want. The courtyard is a great place to hang out and have a beer after a long day at the beach, and the pool is very refreshing. Dan is a great host; he's lots of fun and has lots of tips about the island - what to do, where to go, etc. A car is handy to have (Smartcar Rental is right next door, and we had no problems with them) but a cab ride into town is only a couple of bucks.... more
