Good Value
from wendykoala
We were a little worried after reading some previous reviews ,but were pleasantly surprised. This was a short break for the Bank Holiday with a local coach company and for £99 with a trip to France included it was excellent value for money. Yes, the staff are casually dressed but they more than make up for this in their friendliness and politeness. My daughter is a very fussy eater and she thoroughly enjoyed the food which was served hot and tasty with a home cooked feel. This is one of the few places where I have actually enjoyed...

Dont do it!!!
from cornishgirl
Unfortunately, because of a messed up booking at an alternative hotel, I was placed in this hell hole for one night. It was dreadful. The room stank and was dirty. Not only the room but the corridors were filthy and the bar hadnt been cleaned in about 5 years.. I felt like I had been sent to a borstal. Also, the reception wasn't covered, my key was left for all to take (which actually happened!!!) I did not sleep there and am still fighting for my money back!!
What an Awfull Place
from A TripAdvisor Member
what an awfull hotel, the manager greeted us wearing shabby clothing so this should have been a sign of what was to come. When you walked into the hotel you was greeted by a wall of tobacco smoke. The rooms where dark and contained old broken furniture, but was clean, en suite was very small and if you are a size 16 and above you will not be able to close the door. We stayed for 4 nights and the towels were never change. Breakfast was not too bad but dinner was that bad we ate out for 2 nights. The lift was large enough for two slim people...

Checked in and checked straight out again
from JoJosss
We checked in and saw the room and straight away checked out again, for £50 for a room with breakfast you can certainly do better elsewhere. The room we were given looked like something from the ark. Bathroom no ventilation, stained bath, no shower and wires hanging from the ceiling. Extremely basic bedroom. Bed across corridor, very dilapidated furniture falling to pieces. Stains on carpets. For £20 more we checked in up the road at Best Western Hotel and all was good. Can't believe they try to charge that amount for such a place.
basic but adequate
from martysfan
I have just spent one night at the southcliff hotel. The staff were friendly. The rooms were basic but adequate and clean also nice clean towels. The thing i didnt like was the smell of smoke when entering reception, but being a non smoker i suppose that didnt help..the breakfast was very nice. I would stay there again.
Weekend fiasco
from A TripAdvisor Member
We booked this hotel for a linedance weekend, with rooms for over 100 people and sole use of the ballroom and adjoining rooms for the whole of the weekend, only to be told 2 weeks before the event that they had double booked the ballroom for the saturday night. They told us not to worry as they had found a alternative place for us to hold the Saturday evening dance and had just got to finalise this. One week later they informed us that that had not been able to book this, but had found somewhere else for us. It was totally unsuitable, but at...

Report as a Group Organiser
from sandrasims
I took a group to stay at the Southcliff last week and can only say that the staff at the hotel couldn't have been friendlier. The rooms we stayed in were adequate, there was plenty of hot water at all times of the day. The bed linen was changed mid week during our stay, which hasn't happened when I have stayed in other 2 star hotels. There were plenty of towels in the room and the rooms were very warm, in fact some may say they were too hot! The choice of food was good for a 2 star hotel and no one in our group left the table...

It was very pleasant and the staff were just great
from A TripAdvisor Member
I went on a course to this hotel and am writing this review because I am booking up to go there independently now. The staff were lovely, and even when I got up at four in the morning and decided to stretch my legs there was someone there to talk to me. The food was great. This is not a Hilton, it is a small hotel which gives the appearance of being family run. The rooms are comfortable and adequate - but not the Hilton, but for the money you pay, this is a great place for a cheap break where you really can get away from it all. I...

I found it fantastic...
from A TripAdvisor Member
If you're staying in Folkestone, I'd say this is the BEST hotel. Being a regular trip advisor user, I was very dubious about using this hotel, but on the recommendation of a friend i decided to chance it. Im so very glad i did. I was lucky enough to get a beautifully decorated sea view room, and could most certainly not fault the cleanliness of the establishment. Not only was the room comfortable, the staff were beyond helpful and friendly. All questions i had about the area were tackled sucessfully by the staff who even went as far as...

what a difference
from thepen002
i was very reluctant to book at the southcliff after reading the complaint, but what a difference! my room was a rear facing room, but it was clean and looked like it had been recently wallpapered and painted. the reception area was immaculate, and staff very friendly. the stairs were safe(well i thought!) and used them all the time as lifts scare me. i had dinner one night in their restaurant, and the choice and meal was far better than i expected for a 2 star hotel- more like a 3 star!
Absolutely dreadful
from macklinhelsi
ABSOLUTELY AWFUL - DO NOT STAY HERE.We had the misfortune of staying at this hotel in July 2003 for a friends wedding. We checked in late at night, and admittedly, the floodlit exterior of the hotel looked quite impressive. The reception area seemed OK, and it was only when the receptionist told me that there was a "system problem" which meant that they "had to take payment upfront" that I started to become suspicious. Stupidly I complied with the request, but immedaiately regretted it, especially when I walked through the dingy bar on the...
