Sands Resort Hotel & Spa

I have stayed at The Sands Resort (formerly Trevelgue Hotel) for many years between 1992 and 2006 when our children were younger. It was a great hotel and was quite innovative in terms of its family friendly ethos. A tip - do not stay at the Sands unless you have young children or love them to bits!! We were thoroughly impressed by this resort. The venue was very well suited to families and whilst we had the most basic room available this was very spacious (having a good sized kids room with very large adult room/living area) and clean with good facilities and a sea view. The resort facilities, in particular the pool and the kids play areas were fantastic. A hotel geared for children, we went during a quite time so only a few families there with children under five and was able to make use of all the facilities. A good creche meant we had time for a swim, golf or spa. The food is excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful, felt very comfortable using the baby listening service as they always told you of any noise straight away. We have just stayed at Sands for 5 nights during half term week. It cost us about £900 bed and breakfast. Our family consists of 2 adults and 2 children aged 3 and 5. Whist we choose this hotel because it was 'family friendly', we also wanted as stated in the marketing literature, four star comfortable accommodation and in reality, it was a real let down. Sands Resort was our best holiday yet, in the last 3 years since having our children, our holidays have changed drastically we have gone from 5 * accomadation in Hawaii and the Maldives to Cornwall and Devon!! However I don't think you can beat the Cornish coast if you get the weather. We went to the local beaches at Tolcarne and Watergate and evetried body boarding. This is a great break for any family with children (ours are 2 and 3). Excellent service from the staff, good food and with a baby listening service that works - a break for parents too! Good location for exploring this part of Cornwall - worth visiting Flambards, Padstow and the Lappa Valley Railway. Would definately go back.

We love this hotel! Our 4th visit and once again we had a fab holiday. All of our kids had a great time (3,6,11) and as parents we actually get a break too. Well done Sands - your staff are superb and we will be back again as soon as we can.

If you are looking for a hotel that has superbly friendly staff, excellent child care facilities, clean comfortable rooms and serves good food, then this is the place. Found it through a parenting web site and wasn't disappointed. Only very minor downside for me was the lack of a decent draught beer which they compensated by a good selection of bottled. A well run hotel for children. The real plus point is the staff, all were very friendly and efficient. There was a problem with the original booking, we did not have the suite we thought we had booked. The confirmation letter was very misleading. The brochure photos are also viewed through rose coloured glasses. The decor is dated and the bathrooms are particularly shabby - but very clean, a credit to the housekeeping.
