Luna Blue was the difference between a good vacation and a great one!
We spent the most magical week in Playa at the Luna Blue Hotel and Gardens. At first I was a little sceptical of all of the incredible reviews of the hotel, BUT THEY WERE RIGHT ON!!!! We had a beautiful Superior Room overlooking the gardens. It was everything we wanted in our Mexican experience. Our balcony was a great living room for the week we were there. Tony and Cheri are incredible. They met us as the front desk the day we arrived and we clicked from day one. You can tell they really love their hotel and its guests. We felt... more
A Gem in little Italy
I spent 6 wonderful nights at Luna Blue and can't say enough about what a great little hotel it is! Tony and Cheri (owners) are wonderful hosts. I felt more like I was staying in their home than a hotel. They are very knowledgeable about the area and give good restaurant recommendations. The room we had was a standard, bottom floor room with two beds and a large bathroom. There was plenty of storage in the bathroom and the shower was nice and large. There are no TVs or phones in the rooms. We had a small patio with a little table and chairs... more
Return to this Lovely Hotel already booked
Hi All, My husband & I stayed at the lovely Luna Blue in early February this year. We were so pleased with our stay that we have already booked to return in early April. Luna Blue is a charming boutique-type hotel located in one of the best parts of town. It's a short walk to some of the most beautiful beaches in Playa. The hotel provides guests with free passes to this beach club. It is also located in a great part of the town with numerous restaurants (quite a variety) and shops. Our room was immaculately clean, decorated with... more
Saved our vacation!
The first two nights of our trip were spent at a hotel that left a lot to be desired. We checked out early and went in search of a nicer place to stay. We remembered hearing good things about the Luna Blue and were delighted that they had a room available for us. Our Superior room was *immaculately* clean and had a spacious balcony. It was wonderful to begin our mornings and end our evenings while sitting out amongst the lush trees and tropical flowers, with butterflies, birds and even a tiny lizard as our guests. This was our... more
Simply the Best
Stayed at Luna Blue in February 2006 and just had the best time there. The hotel was just what we were looking for. The gardens were beautiful, the room simple but very clean and the staff very accommodating. The beach and some of the best places for food are only a couple of blocks away. Hotel price very affordable and included entry to Mamitas Beach Club which also included a lounge chair and umbrella. The hotel also had beach towels available at no extra charge. The owners, Tony and Cheri could not have been more kind. They offered... more
Perfection en Nueva Quinta!
Hotel Luna Blue is the perfect small hotel for a discriminating guest on a budget. Owners Tony and Cheri provide a comfortable, friendly environment where satisfaction and safety is paramount. In short... they truly care for their guests; so much so that you feel a part of the family. As a solo traveler I opted for a ground-floor standard room. The bed: perfectly comfortable, the room: spotlessly clean, the staff: friendly and very accommodating. The gardens of Luna Blue are magnificent! This hotel would be a perfect location... more

Great location and value
We did not stay at this resort, but visited it and were duly impressed. We were booked at the new RIU Palace Maya Riveria (all inclusive, $400 per night per couple)and stumbled upon Luna Blue by accident while exploring 5th Avenue the last day of our vacation. What a cute little hotel and garden. The desk staff was very friendly and told us about the property and showed us a room upon request. The room he showed was a suite (full kitchen) with a spacious bedroom and immaculately clean bathroom. It was $90 per night (total)for the... more
Not for you "All Inclusive" folks
This is a very pleasant small, boutique hotel for those of you who can create your own pastimes and entertainment. The room/furnishings are minimal but that should not be viewed as a negative comment. We had the "treetop" bungalow, with a patio/balcony almost as large as the room. It was complete with hammock, cocktail table, and chairs. We spent early evenings (before dinner) with our traveling companions on the balcony playing cards and drinking margaritas, after a day at the beach club (courtesy of Luna Blue). The hosts/owners Cheri... more
loved Luna Blue
this is a great little hotel. We stayed in a room with a kichenette the first night, and moved to the very top room, which has an awesome balcony the second.Very Reasonable for the area. Everything was brand new. We could park right in front of the hotel.(which is a luxury, from other places we have stayed). One block from 5th Ave. and Little Italy where you can get great Italian food. The owners were more than helpful. I've been to Playa many times and will return to Luna Blue!!!
Fell in love with Playa again!!
I've been going to Playa del Carmen for 15 years and fell in love with the town all over again thanks to my stay at Luna Blue. New owners Cheri and Tony are really nice people who poured a lot hard work into the former Zanzibar and are turning it into a jewel of a small hotel in north Playa. Although a half block off 5th ave, this side of town is quite and peaceful and still close to all the action. Plenty of shops and restaurants are steps away as is the best beach in town only a short 5 minute walk. Just go to the front desk and... more
