Hotel Roma

If you like fancy hotels this one is for you. I don't think you could find a better location to see Ortigia or Siracusa. I generally prefer BB places. This was kind of fancy for our tastes. The only negative we had is that they didn't make up the bed early enough and then when we were taking an afternoon siesta they kept trying to call to make the room up. Not really a big fault. Stay here at the end of May. Nice clean hotel with large rooms and helpful staff. Breakfast is above average for european hotels in my experience. Great location. I block from The Duomo and it's piazza. Ortigya is an interesting place to drive in. If you make a wrong turn you can go in circles for awhile. Take a walk to the market near the entrance to the island. Interesting foods and here you'll see real locals. The island is an interesting place and worth a day to explore it. The Greek site is Ok. I've seen better.

This was the only hotel we stayed in which I felt was of international quality - I suppose it was also the only 4 star hotel we stayed in (though the one in Palermo may pretend it is on advertising?). The room was beautiful, lovely decoration, fabulous bathroom. The breakfast was a buffet, hooray! so we actually got some fresh fruit, yoghurts etc and could avoid all the sugar-topped croissants the Sicilians seem to go for. We stayed for 5 night in the Hotel Roma in mid October 2006 on the second floor, The Hotel is slap bang in the middle of Ortigia and is perfect for those wishing to chill in Ortigia, Room had air conditioning, mini bar and was of average size for Europe, the backroom had a good Grohe shower and the hotel has a range of nice free cosmetics. This is a lovely hotel, excellent location, great facilities and very comfortable. Our room was a decent size, only a shower in the bathroom but a good shower and a nice bathroom, and we had a view over the rooftops towards the sea, we were on the third floor. Even the mini-bar was good with a good selection and reasonable prices. Breakfast was standard 4* fare but had a good selection. Bacon and eggs were a bit cold but that seems to be fairly normal. I don't consider myself a difficult client but I must say that the Roma had serveral problems and does not derserve a four star rating at all. First, on entering our room we found dust everywhere which I had never experienced in a much lower rated hotel. I had to ask the reception to send the cleaning staff. My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Roma for two nights in May, 2006. I would classify this as a very good hotel at an affordable price, comfortable though not "luxurious." It is located directly behind the Duomo on Ortygia, and you can walk all over the island from there but need to take a taxi to the archaeological park. The room was of ample size and the furnishings of excellent quality especially the bathroom. Most importantly, the large bed was comfortable and roomy (king? queen?). This hotel has very pleasant rooms, comfortable and well appointed. It is very well located on Ortegia Island, the old and very attractive part of Syracuse and the best place to stay. It is right next to the Duomo (the bells can be a bit disturbing), and the floodlit Piazza Duomo only 50m away is a lovely place to sit over coffee and drinks in the evening. Many restaurants within 5 minutes walk.

The Hotel Roma was the most expensive hotel we stayed in for our week in Sicily so we were slightly disappointed that the facilities were more appropriate for a 3 star hotel than a 4 star. Our room was small but very comfortable and quiet with a little balcony with seats. The breakfast was average for Sicily. The hotel location was fantastic, vey convenient for the lovely streets around Ortigia, the bustling food market and the mainland. Had a lovely couple of days in Syracuse at the Roma. This hotel has the ideal location for wandering the old medieval streets of ancient Ortygia.Clean and very comfortable, good sized rooms. We faced an interior courtyard so no view to speak of but it was decked with flowers and painted in pasted shades. The hotel had modern facilities and friendly receptionists.
