Tired decor
We were guests at a wedding and stayed in a room in the annex building. Everything was clean, but nothing matched. We stayed in a room painted Barbie pink with a sky blue bathroom. The double bed had no headboard and was pushed up against the wall on one side which made it uncomfortable during the night. The matress was old and seemed lumpy. The valance sheets and duvet cover & pillow cases were not matching, and it all looked very tired. In fact it reminded me of something I had seen on "The Hotel Inspector" TV program in the UK. Food was... more
Food to die for
Our cricket club used this hotel for a five-day stay which included four cricket matches and a day's golf (all arranged by the hotel). While the general appearance of the hotel was perhaps not the best (there was building work going on round the back, and the reception and bar area needed sprucing up, particularly the carpeting), I can honestly say that the food was the best I have ever had in any hotel, anywhere (and I am fortunate enough to have travelled extensively in Europe). Virtually every course served during the week was a... more
Tired hotel
The hotel is rather tired and the room desparately needed renovation. The washbasin was chipped and cracked - the bathroom only had soap dispensers and no blocks of soap. The dispenser over the bath was about 3 foot high - OK for a shower but very diificult for a bath. There were exposed wires in the bedroom which needed putting in conduit, the double bed was only a standard 4ft 6 inch bed rather than a king size bed, the carpet was old, the windows were black at the junction with the glass and needed paining etc.
Great staff and locationt
A family party of 13 spent a single Saturday night here to celebrate my wifes birthday. This in itself was pretty impressive as an increasing number, not to say majority, of hotels will only take 2 night bookings at weekends. There was a lot of building work going on while we were there so we didn't see the place at its best and architecturally its a bit of a mess. The whole place is generally a bit tired. Very clean, but really in need of a complete make-over. The same applies to guest room. I was told that my room (311) had just been... more
Food good, but decor is bad
Have stayed in the hotel three times - mainly because of the salmon-fishing. Staff are very friendly. The bar is now non-smoking, which is a huge plus. The food is excellent and great value - especially if you stay bed, breakfast and dinner. The only fault I have with the hotel is the rooms. Every one we've stayed in is dire need of refurbishment. Carpets are worn and a bit dirty. Furniture is dated. And the bathrooms definitely need ripping out and updating. If you went back to the 1970s - the rooms would look exactly as they do now. I... more
Very Friendly
Stayed in the cottage attached to the hotel. They were friendly from the outset and recommended the best value package. The cottage itself was very well equipped and warm (important for this time of year) Ate in the restuarant which was excellent both for quality and value for money. The decor is slightly dated but suits the hotel and the pool is a decent size. all in all excellent value and would recommend.
FREINDLY CLEAN HOTEL
We stayed for one night the room slept 3 and had a balcony overlooking the cricket field and the river we had a nice swim and then went down for dinner which was good value and nicely served. It,s a family run hotel which could do with up dating but I would stay there again. Several years ago we attended a family wedding here it was held in a marquee outside the pool and was a lovely setting.
stuck in the 80's!
we stayed in a family room and i must say it was a bit tired looking, the avocado bathroom suite was less than impressive as was the peeling wallpaper behind the radiators, it felt like the room was trying it's best to please, i.e very stylish chrome toilet brush (in a carpetted avocado bathroom suite!?) and the room had a dvd player ... but... it was all a little tired and i felt like the house doctor needed to visit, having said that, the beds were comfortable, the balcony was lovely, the staff very friendly and helpful and swimming pool... more
Will be back!
We have just returned from a wonderful weekend break in Northumberland, staying at the Riverdale Hall hotel in Bellingham. The highlights of the hotel were most definitely the fantastic food (different menu freshly prepared each night) and the extremely helpful staff. Nothing was too much bother for them, and you really felt like part of the family. The location is great for a weekend of walking in Kielder Water or on the beautiful Northumbrian coast (1 hour away). All in all, a really enjoyable break which we hope to repeat in the near... more
Big,Big breakfast
Set in a riverside location in the village of Bellingham this 2star hotel has one or two shortcomings,ie,chipped paint, small bathrooms in the annexe which also have the smell of chlorine from the pool but everything is clean with towels changed daily. That said the annexe rooms have a balcony and a great view over the lawned grounds down to the river where game fishing is available. The big pluses for the hotel are the location, the staff and the food.We had a different menu every night of our 3 night stay and the portions were generous... more
