Not for the 'Busy Executive who cares about comfort' !!
Accommodation was needed for 2 nights in May 2008 having secured tickets for the Acoustic Festival of Great Britain and having decided that the old bones are too weary to spend time in a tent. The Castle Hotel's own website boasts thats its ideal for the 'Busy executive who cares about comfort'. However I think that some decent mattresses are needed before they should make that claim and they should be told that more than a plastic bottle of water on the dressing table is needed to fit the bill. Luckily we didn't have much luggage... more
Try somewhere else..!
After check in was directed to a seperate out - building. So the walk from the public car park to the hotel was followed by a walk back towards the car park to the seperate building. Check in OK. Room - last decorated in the early 70's! Shabby, worn out! Bed - knackered! Bathroom - cold. Restaurant - service quite good - food below average. Breakfast - OK. Value - poor - £88 for one night. I will avoid this place in the future, and stay at the Premier Travel Inn nearby - much better value
warm and charming,good brekky!!!!!!!!!!
Hi after getting the job to book accomadation for our xmas bash , then reading the reviews on this site i was a bit worried, Well we checked in and found ourselves over the road in the brewery house, yes its old fashioned but as a great charm for a old building, it was warm ,very warm but after stopping in many modern (cold) hotels and a night on the slope at tamworth snow dome this made a nice welcome, we got up for breakfast after a good nights sleep ,we got down early , had probably one of the best breakfasts ive had buffet style, on the... more
Reminded me of my house at Uni
Firstly, may I say that, whilst trying to advocate the impartiality espoused by Trip Advisor, I find myself aghast that any of the previous reviews could do anything except a hatchet job on this place. I applaud the people who have, but feel it my duty to wade in with my size 12s to have my two pennorth. Also, I would suggest that the reader look at the spelling/punctuation of the good reviews, and then make a judgement on whether the contributors can really be trusted to have an opinion worth taking. Myself and my girlfriend has the... more
probaly better than the belfry!!!!!
The Hotel was seemed to be cery appeling at first glance from the outside and even more so on the inside, i was greated by very helpful, happy and cheerful staff. the vodka bar was a very pleasent place to sit and have a good night out over the weekend. the resturant was wonderful, food from the carvery was superb with a very pleasent male chef. the waiting staff was very helpfull and there never seemed to be any inconvenence in my beeing their. i have recomended this traditinal and querky hotel to my friends and even my famley know what a... more
rubbish
Stayed Friday 27 April 2007. We have many weekends away and this Hotel was by far the worst Hotel that we have ever stayed in. Evening meal of steak was terrible asked for medium to rare was so over done was like cardboard. Meals were served wrong first of all. Staff not very courtious, was as though we were an inconvenience. Staff from hotel restaurant in Russian bar kissing customers. The sheets on the bed had holes in, I think they need to invest in some customer care training. I cant see this hotel trading for much longer in this... more
What a pleasure
I had the pleasure of staying in this hotel because I was attending a wedding their. I read reviews and was not really looking forward. Their is a new restaurant which serves one of the best carvery meals I have ever had, the place has been fully refurbished. Our bedroom was in the annex, it was quiet and had fantastic views over a bowling green and river and out of another window an amazing view of Tamworth castle, about 100yds away. The prices were reasonable, the staff were curtious and I would strongly recomend this hotel.
Don't bother staying here
Room not very clean, cigarette burns on the sheets, smelly bathroom, carpet littered with bleach stains. Dirty crockery, breakfast was not very appetizing. Sleepless nights due to there being a club next door (loud music) with revellers shouting in the street until the early hours of the morning.
What a hole!!!!!!!! Don't do it!
It has to be the worst hotel i have ever stayed in and i've stayed in alot of hotels. Thank god it was one night. The bedroom was filthy, it was like a bedsit.
Is it any better now!
I and many of my collegues have needed to stay in Tamworth on a regular basis over the last 6 or 7 years. This is the last place that any of us would ever choice to stay. Half the time in didn't get a room in the main hotel but in its annex across a sometime busy road. Hot water that only works if nobody else is using it at the same time. A restaurant where what is says on the menu bears little resemblance to the descriptions or normal expections. Classic example is I ordered Broccoli and stilton cheese soup for starters... more
