Not 4 star - Service poor
Just spent two nights at this hotel, (8th 9th June) rated 4 star by the Welsh Tourist Board and 3 star by the AA. Would suggest the hotel is a good 3 star based on location and ammenities. Stayed in a 'Classic Room' over looking the front, as no smoking in Wales the wedding guests stood under our window at 12.30am drinking and talking having their cigarettes. Room was nice and clean though. Staff service does not exist. Most of them do not speak very much English, possibly East European. Breakfast was the worst part.,... more
Give Heywood Mount a Miss
We stayed two nights at this hotel on a tour of Wales. The facilities and rooms look good on the outside but there were some urgent repairs needed (the rail to the Jacuzzi came off in my hand!) and the management was terrible. Our rooms had been upgraded without asking us and we were expected to pay for it. Our children were placed at the other end of the hotel in spite of a request to the contrary. Food was Ok but staff were not friendly and having got up to use the swimming pool before breakfast we were told angrily by the chef (the only... more
A week too long!
I stayed at this hotel with my husband and 6 year old daughter for a week in August 2004and it was a week too long! Everything was too much trouble for the staff at this hotel. It was poor value for money. Breakfast was cooked on a budget. I've never had measured portions of cereal before or been served by staff who treat you like everything is too much trouble. There were a lack of staff. The receptionist doubled up as the swimming pool attendant at times! Workmen and staff were outside smoking and left their cigarette ends on the patio... more
OK
Ok hotel but nothing special. A bit further out from the beach than I thought, especially if you're walking ! Bathroom a bit dated but ok. All in all just a forgettable experience. Glad to be here for one night only ! Tenby though is a great old-fashioned (in a nice way !) resort - plently of pubs and restaurants !
Improved Performance
We spent a weekend here with friends and found our stay to be comfortable and peaceful. Reading some of the older reviews, I would say this hotel has made efforts to improve its performance in some areas, though I agree that £1 for towel hire is irksome and that the in room toiletries were not worth bothering with. However, we found all the staff friendly, but unobtrusive and very helpful with only one major gripe: they were very vague about the internet connection assuring us it was ‘Broadband’ via the phone (it was dial up) added to... more
Nice hotel, just a shame about some attitudes
Stayed at this hotel for just one night. The rooms are lovely, as they should be considering we paid £60 pp for B&B, which as we were in triple rooms was £180 per room. We were greeted at reception by a very pleasant young lady, very helpful with information who later booked a taxi for us. Our room was lovely, beautifully clean and I complimented the cleaning staff the next day on their spotless work throughout the hotel. We sat in the sun on the terrace of our room and wondered why the hotel had so many bad reviews on Trip... more
Bad Performance
we expected for the price charged (130 £) a decent room with functioning appliances. We found a room that was dark as some lights were broke, same in the bathroom. The jacuzzi / bath didn't work properly so we had to take a shower in the spa - no towels available there. In the morning we had the window cleaner from the outside looking into our room while we got dressed - surprise! over all a weak performance, the staff was not helpful at all and didn't seem to be much interested. definitely that was a one and only stay!
just what we needed
We have just returned from the Heywood Mount Hotel after a 2 night stay , im well aware of what other guests experienced there and can understand some of their points , yes the hotel was without reception staff at times. yes the towel charge is petty (it was waived) but if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of day to day work, kids etc.... its perfect. Its peaceful , relaxing and the location is very central to all of Tenbys'Attractions. We also ate in the (yes nearly empty) resturant and the service was excellent as was... more
Operated at the Hotels covenience not the guests.
We booked having looked at the Hotel website and although pricey thought it looked OK, in a good location with better than average facilities for the area. Wrong! It was only in walking distance of the town centre if you had a spare half hour and were not too worried by the speeding vehicles up and down the lane which had no pavements for quite a way. The leisure facilities were hardly worth getting wet for and the hotel was petty enough to disallow you from using a room towel and charging £1 pound to hire a swimming towel - or you... more
Impersonal and expensive
I should have spent more time doing my research but time was short with my wife threatening divorce if I didn't come up with somewhere to stay before noon on Sunday. Having spent all day Saturday searching for an hotel on the coast in Devon and Cornwall, two things began to dawn on me:-1) don't leave it until the weekend before the short break to book an hotel,2) the hotel industry is doing OK in the UK! Having moved up the coastline to South Wales in my search for an hotel, I came across the Heywood Mount in Tenby on a tourist... more
Blackmail at the Heywood Mount Hotel, Tenby, South Wales
I booked to stay for two nights (2nd & 3rd Sept.) at the Heywood Mount Hotel, Tenby, (an AA 3 star) through the active hotels online booking facility on 19th August. My booking process specified the kind of room I required (1 Executive Twin). The confirmation email, however, only stated 1 Room and, at that point, perhaps I should have sensed problems. The directions on their website were rather ambiguous so I emailed the hotel on 31st August to ask for directions which they did not supply by failing to respond to the mail. So, I phoned on... more
