Best Christmas Party Ever
Went to a Christmas Party at The Cornmill Lodge Thursday 11 December 2008. Had a fantastic evening. The function room was just the right size, had a dance floor, bar and seating for 60 people. The hotel supplied the DJ but we also took some of our own CDs which he played. The buffet was well presented and the food was lovely with a good range of both warm and cold food. The staff were lovely, friendly, helpful, efficient and courteous throughout the evening. All in all this was a really good party and I would recommend... more
Fantastic Party Venue
We held our annual xmas party here on Saturday 6th December and it was a fantastic evening. All employees who attendded said it was the best party venue we have been to. The service was impecable. The food was beautiful and quite large portions compared to some of the hotels where you go and you can hardly see it on your plate. The drinks prices were very resonable. All the staff were very helpful, on the evenin and also on the run up to the event. The room was decorated beautifully too. I would definitley recommend this... more
Good wedding venue
Attended a wedding here and also stayed 3 nights at the hotel. The decor and style of the hotel was a little dated, but our room was very large and comfortable. The supplied iron and ironing board were a little worse for wear, but the large tv and smart bathroom were good standard. The breakfast was nice, but I wouldn't have paid for it had it not been included in the room price. The staff were generally helpful and very friendly. The wedding we attended was well organised and the staff made it a great day. The food was very good for a... more
Good acomodation
Stayed here to attend an engagement in pudsey. Accomodation was good and breakfast was included with a selection of hot and cold food. Room was clean and a good size, staff friendly. Reasonable value for money.
great hotel
Thoroughly enjoyed stay, staff very friendly, food excellent, rooms great, couldn't fault a thing
Very Disappointing
I would not recommend this hotel for any function. I held my daughters Baptism reception at the Corn Mill Lodge and agree with Thomas26, the owner Gordan Jowett is obnoxious and has zero customer service skills. He did not smile and appeared stressed throughout the event. Upon planning the event I only experienced one member of staff (whom works Saturdays) to be helpful, other staff members could not appear to answer any of my simple queries and always passed me onto Gordan who made a mountain out of a mole hill about everything, he is... more

I remember this baptism well in spite we do 20/30 baptism's per year the lady concerned was very exacting about minor details which were over and above what we usually offer but I do recall asking the mother to step aside and have a quick word with me about more guests being there than were booked for. I must at this point say that we do not charge for the private room whatsoever but it is explained that the condition of the booking is that everybody is catered for who attends, in this particular case we know more guests arrived owing to the fact that all the plates which we had pre counted had gone and there we still people wanting to eat. I said to the lady it looks as though more guests have come than you expected and did she want me to put more food out on the buffet tabele and increase the number of plates, I was told you can do what you want but I shall not be paying any more money as 4 people did not turn up, it was obvious that a lot more than 4 people arrived who were not catered for. interfering busybody
Me and my husband had our wedding venue at the corn mill hotel leeds we had our afternoon and evening reception there we chose this venue because it was convience for family and friends we found it to be ok but a little of the small side. We found the owner to be obnoxious and not very friendly. We were accused of inviting too many people and not paying for them whereby in fact a few guests had dropped out due to ill health he also demand more money from us. The evening buffet was nothing special and it was an expensive wedding for the... more
Management response from CornmillLodge

Unfortunatley on this occasion the couple getting married invited to the evening disco function at which we serve a hot and cold bufett, far more guests than they had catered for as we do not charge for the room hire we do expect customers arranging functions to cater for the amount of guests they have invited, that was not the case on this occasion. We have plenty of customers who would disagree with my description of being obnoxious and not very friendly. Very friendly, Gordon Jowett, Owner.

Excellent hotel
My husband and myself and little boy stayed here. The room was clean, big and cleaned every day. Service excellent and the food was plenty and freshly cooked and delicious. We felt with a child it went smoothly and staff very friendly and lovely little touches in room , like iron and ironing board, kettle, cups, tea ,coffee, sugar and biscuits.
Lousy dining experience
Four of us booked in here for a meal in their restaurant on Sat 7/1/07. Imagine my disgust to find a Woodlouse in the bottom of my empty cola glass. I called for the manager and was dealt with by the owner Gordon Jowett. He confirmed it was a Woodlouse said sorry but suggested it could have been placed there by us. His whole attitude was aggressive and he was only prepared to replace my glass of cola which I said wasn't good enough, he asked me what I wanted so I said write off the whole bill at which point he walked away. He was the most... more
Management response from CornmillLodge

Unfortunatley the insect in the cola glass was true, we immediatley investigated all possible reasons for this but were unable to come up with an answer, the suggestion that this may have been placed in the glass by the diners is an exageration of what was said. In trying to rectify the problem I offered to replace the drink, I was told that is not good enough, I then offered to replace the round of drinks for 4 people that was not good enough, I then offered to replace the total drinks for the night, that was not good enough, I then asked what would be good enough, the answer was to write off the cost of the whole evening i.e. food and drinks or I was told they would go to the Health & Saftey executive, they were told by me that we run a clean bar and kitchen and do not have a problem with Health & Safety, I then offered their spokeman the name and phone number of the Health & Safety department and I took the decision at that time to write off the total drinks bill but refused to write off the food. Was this fair? I think so! Gordon Jowett Owner

Inflexible over Wedding
We looked in to this hotel as a venue for our late afternoon/evening wedding ( to be held on a friday). The hotel staff were very helpful and an appointment was made with the owner. At this meeting the owner wanted us to change the time of our wedding. He would only take our business if we had an evening buffet as well as the wedding breakfast which was not what we wanted as it was a late afternoon affair. The impression we got was of an establishment only concernred with their profit not the enjoyment of their customers.
Management response from CornmillLodge

Our company policy for weddings is that during the week and on some friday nights we will allow the function room to be used free of charge providing our food is consummed during the function, this type of evening function starts at 7.30pm with a buffet served at 9pm in this particular case they wanted to arrive late afternoon and use the evening buffet for the wedding reception with nothing else to eat for the evening. We always make weddings a special occasion for the bride and groom and this wedding did not meet that criteria, we are accused of being concerned about profits, yes of course we are, it pays wages.
