Newly refurbished.....Wow
What a transformation!! I wont be staying anywhere else. I stayed at the Douglas about this time last year when it traded under another name! It was just ok. I could not believe it when I arrived back a year later, I was led to belive its under new ownership and they are clearly investing! Highly recommend it..
Never again
I booked this hotel because I got a great deal (easyjet). It was bad in every way: no near parking space, sad location and old & small room. The hotel was VERY noisy; you could hear everything from the other rooms. When somebody closed a door, it sounded like a canonball. Under the door there was a gap of 2-3 cm... We could not use the bath because the plug was missing... Tiles in the bathroom were all broken because glued on a wooden floor. Pillows were as flat as a pancake. As already mentioned: the noise of the... more
Faulty Towers in Aberdeen
Booked a double with smoking prefered. Got a single, non-smoking room. The room had a very nice lobby....but that's where it ended. Head up stairs (As the lifts where out of action) to your room and find the dated wallpaper flaking off....the characteristic black and decker (even if that) stand-alone radiator with one leg missing in your room to keep you warm....wake up call?? Who needs it when you are on the first floor with single glazed windows at the front of the hotel, when you have lorries, buses & cars sounding as though... more
an old favourite
Have stayed at the Douglas Hotel, in its various guises, several times over the past few years. Ideal city centre location, but no hotel car parking. Rooms vary from large & comfortartable to small and basic. Good buffet breakfast. Hotel is undergoing an ongoing refurbishment & may be much improved in a year or so. Try always to book a discounted room rate.
Lovely friendly hotel
Stayed here in March. Fantastic location in the heart of the city. Friendly, cheerful, helpful staff. Bright clean rooms. Ample breakfast with a good selection of cereals, fruit and hot food.
Perfect location, Average hotel
Great location in the city centre, stayed overnight, booked a twin room but they put is in a double room which was a lovely bright big double room, lovely decorated with a spa bath. But we needed a twin and they moved us to a twin room which was cramped, a bit shabby, with a cold shower! So in my experiance, the rooms can be a bit hit and miss. Breakfast has a good selection of fruit, cerials and full cooked, its buffet style so you can eat as much as you want which is great however some of the cooked items ran out quickly and took a... more
Central location but needs renovation
Paid 50 pounds per night for two including breakfast through a web site that I am not allowed to mention here. Central location, just steps from shopping and entertainment. First night was a nightmare. No sleep until 4 a.m. as our front-facing room overlooked a taxi rank where fights broke out. Room was in urgent need of renovation - single glazing that barely shut didn't keep the noise out. Asked for transfer next morining, and next night was perfect. Newly renovated, spacious and quiet room to the back of the building, views over harbour... more
Reasonably priced, well-located hotel
For the price - I booked a nice double room for just over £30 last summer - this is one of the best hotels in Aberdeen. Nothing's particularly spectacular about the Aberdeen City, it's just a clean, well run hotel with good service. The rooms and en suite facilities are immaculate, beds are comfortable, and the hotel is within a hop, skip, and jump from the train station, and just off the main thoroughfare of Union Street. On another occasion, family stayed in this hotel to watch me graduate from Aberdeen University - the Marischal... more
City Hotel Comes Recommended
Good quality 3 Star Hotel. Rooms very clean and well presented. Lifts were not working when I was there in January however. Staff friendly and helpful - but tried to close restaurant to save effort by directing customers to bar area for meals. Bar leaves a LOT to be desired, you will not linger there, key word being minimalistic and barren - no bar tender except to fetch order when requested from front desk. Three cask beers on offer, but two were "off". Good wholesome and generous buffet English Breakfast. Very... more
