A Pleasant Stay
Had a pleasant week at the Lyon Bastille hotel. The room was renovated and very quiet. You might request a quiet room. The room had a large, comfortable bed, two closets, and a mini-bar which can be used to keep juice, milk, etc. The bathroom had the usual bad French shower in a tub with a hose and a high tub which is not that easy to get in and out of. The staff was generally friendly and helpful. The hotel is a few minutes walk to Gare de Lyon for trains to Provence and the Riviera. It is 10 or 15 minutes to the Bastille... more
Good especially for the cost
Well I hadn't yet visited Europe and decided that although I could only get a few days away from work I would jet off to Paris for a friends birthday party on la Seine. So I booked a trip on cheaptickets for about $850 including travel incurance, airfare and hotel. From CDG I took the Air France bus to Gare de Lyon and walked about 2 blocks to the hotel. I arrived on Friday afternoon and was immediately lead to my room. My room was very small with a twin size bed (but only me) and had a nice desk, luggage stand, and a well appointed... more
great little three star hotel
Stayed here for 7 nights three years ago during a trip to Europe. Didn't know Paris at all but loved this location. Other reviewers have complained about the closeness to the metro stop, but I liked this conveinence. You should ask to stay on the highest floor possible AND away from the street however. There's an elevator, but I took the stairs most of the time. The room was well-kept, good linens and nice en-suite bathroom with shower curtain (that's what I remember anyway). Staff very helpful and friendly (on my last day I left my... more
Very Average Room
We stayed in a double room on top floor and unfortunately the room was definately not worth the price. The wallpaper was peeling off and there was a chipped window. The shower had no curtain and though it was great to have a shower with good water pressure it meant that you couldnt avoid getting water all over the floor. District is also interesting, lots of homeless people around and we heard two fights on the street in the middle of the night but I guess thats what you get staying so close to train station. Very friendly staff and... more
Hotel Lyon Bastille
I stayed there with my husband and elderly mother in law, last october, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very helpful, especially to my mother in law, who has difficulties walking- they sent a member of staff to help her from her room, when she didnt want to bother us(we wouldnt have minded). The hotel was clean, and the rooms comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and it was an excellent value for money hotel. It is near the gare de lyon, and the two best oyster bars in paris. It is also opposite an... more
Nice little hotel
We stayed there 2 years ago. Nice rooms, clean and well appointed. You can have breakfast in your room if you want to. Breakfast is the normal french stuff( croissants, cafe au lait and orange juice). Nice staff at reception. The hotel is near the Gare de Lyon and the excellent Brasserie de l'Europe. I definitely would return there.
cheap and nice!
Great little hotel, we loved breakfast. The staff was very helpfull. The area is nice and safe with many inexpensive places to eat around. It has three or four small food markets within walking distance that open late, great for buying water, food and sodas.
very nice for the money
We stayed for three nights in end of feb at a great rate. the room was ery clean and a good size for a paris hotel room. the hotel also had an eleator which is nice as it is six floor hotel and not all hotels in this class hae elevators. the area is typical european train station area with mix of rest, shops, and some seedy sex shops. However, we always felt safe even late at night and the streets were clean.
Look for something better
If you really want to be close to the train station (gare de Lyon) and you want a cheap hotel, Bastille Lyon is an option. I stayed there for three nights on july 2003 and I wished to be able to change hotels. The room was very old, the courtins were falling in pieces and the whole room was depressing. From all the 3 star hotels I stayed in during my visit to Europe, by far I would consider Lyon Bastille as the worse one; maybe if it was a two star hotel and a nightly rate of less than the 100 euros I paid, it would have been fair. If you... more
cheap and cheerful!
Stayed in the Lyon Bastille for 2 nights. Very helpful staff. Rooms were basic but spotless. Nice breakfast - crusty loaf, croissants, hot chocolate, cereal, fruit juice etc etc etc. Very reasonably priced through internet sites (as opposed to booking with the hotel directly. Near the Gare du Lyon and the Bastille, handy for brasseries and restaurants too. Nice area of Paris and 2 minutes from metro station.
