4-Star Farce
I recently stayed in the Hotel Normandy with my parents on a family trip. My father put it best when he described it as "tenement housing." The Hotel Normandy should not be allowed to pass as a 2-star hotel, let alone a 4-star hotel. The carpets are torn and stained, the wallpaper and paint are peeling, and the layout of the building is ludicrous. It is not much of an exaggeration to say that the place looks like it caught on fire and they just haven't gotten around to fixing it. Furthermore, if you actually plan to sleep at the... more
Wonderful hotel and even better location...
Despite the poor reviews on Tripadvisor, my boyfriend and I feel differently and had a wonderful stay at the Normandy Hotel. This was our first time in Paris. The staff was friendly and spoke very well English. The location of the hotel was great! The metro and the Le Louve museum were less than 5min walk away. If you take the metro, it’s only a couple of stops away from the Arc the Triumph, Champs Elysees and Notre Dame Cathedral. The metro system was easier to understand than NYC transit. (And I am from NYC.) I suggest studying the Metro... more
What a surprise!
We stayed at the Hotel Normandy in August 2003. I agree with most of the comments I have read on this site. We particularly chose this hotel for a triple room with airconditioning and location. Imagine our surprise when the room we were assigned had no air conditioning and was a double where they were going to give us a roll away. There would have been no space to move around! I had to create quite a scene to get any action and they miraculously came up with a triple with a-c. The bathroom was rather unsavory and the beds old but it... more
4**** Who are they trying to kid ?
My wife and I stayed at the Normandy hotel from 3rd June 2004 for 3 nights, our room was small, wallpaper peeling off the wall's, tile's broken in the bathroom, grubby furniture and a general feeling of a hotel trying to survive on it's past reputation, how they could possible say this is a **** hotel baffles me , well placed, but do not stay here if you expect 4**** quality...
4 stars - maybe 30 years ago
I stayed here in April 2004 and this is the worst hotel I've ever come across. The rooms are absolutely filthy, the furniture is worn out, the sheets are skanky and the bathrooms are hideous. Everything is dirty and badly maintained. Even the restaurant closed down its got so bad! Despite its superb location if you are planning a trip to Paris DO NOT STAY HERE. This hotel needs gutting and starting again.
Stay Away despite location
Please don't stay at this hotel This might be the only way for them to update their hotel. Upon arriving, we were fooled by the lobby. We asked to be upgraded since we paid for 5 nights yet were only staying for 4. I have never seen such dirty carpet. Our upgraded suite had this funky smell, the bottom of the bathtub was grey, plumbing was a problem, sink was chipping ( 5 inches+), bed that must be more than 2 decades old, lumpy chair, bad air ventilation, slow drain & much more... All of the "horrors" posted on this website are... more
value for money
After reading some of the reviews, we reckoned we were heading for Fawlty Towers but not so. The Normandy maybe was a 4 star once apon a time but it certainly isn't now - the rooms are a bit tired looking and could do with freshening up. (Shabby chic or what!) In saying that, the room we were in was very spacious, bed comfortable, loads of space for clothes and huge bathroom with double sinks. Reception staff very efficient and spoke good English. We had a couple of drinks in the bar, and although comfortable, had absolutely no... more
Great Value!
This hotel was a bargain. We were a few blocks from the Louve, the staff was extremely helpful, and the rooms were beautiful and clean. We paid 99 USD/night, but it would have been worth more given our experience.
perfect
This little jewel of a hotel was incredibly inexpensive, and a true Parisienne experence. The location could only be described as perfect, steps from the Louvre, the Metro, the Opera, the Royal Palace, and many other sights. The staff was friendly and helpful, very patient with our bumbling French, and, fortunately, fluent in English. The rooms were absolutely charming, a chin-deep bath tub, wonderfully comfortable beds, and spotlessly clean. I absolutely will go back and will recommend it to anyone I can. For folks whose definition of 4 Star... more
Shold not have 4 stars!
Where do I start.. I stayed here in October 2003 and paid about $300 a night through hotels . Lobby & exterior were fine. The rooms however, were terrible. My bathroom window let the rain pour in. The "antique" furniture that is a feature of the hotel, belongs in a dumpster. They should just say, old used furniture, beds, sheets etc in all rooms. At $100 a night, it would be just OK, but be prepared for the smells. My advice... find somewhere else..
