La Cisterna Hotel

We were given a choice of rooms and took a big one over looking the square, because it was near the lift , rather than the long treck to the view rooms at the back. The room was adaquate but the hotel low class and noisy. Breakfast was served in a canteen-like atmosphere and coffee came from a press button automatic machine. No personality at all. The position however is ood. The town itself is an icecream lickers paradise, but surprisingly becomes more attractive in the evening when the day trippers have left a bit of room to move.

Hotel Cisterna has evolved over many years so the rooms are each very different. We had a nice (but small) room with a wonderful balcony overlooking the valley. Our friends had a very small room with many stairs to get to it and stairs to get to the bathroom. The restaurant was right over our room and a bit noisy until the restaurant closed and the dishwashers finished - but worth it for the view. The hotel has a restaurant, a bar, and a patio on the piazza out front. The town is marvelous and the hotel's location could not be better.... more

My wife and I just returned from a wonderful month in Italy to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We only stayed one night at La Cisterna, but we truly liked it. The hotel is located right in the town square with many restaurants and shops. You can tumble out of the hotel at a late hour and take in the square without anybody else around. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. It is conviently situated in the heart of town. The room was much larger than other places we stayed and tastefully decorated. The balcony rooms, which have a view of the valley below are best. If you stay here, the upstairs restaurant is a must. It has a view of the valley and an extensive Tuscan menu, including wild boar and rabbit stew.

We stayed here 5 nights on our honeymoon in Tuscany and we absolutely loved it. We were in a room at the very top of the hotel (#101 I think) and it had 2 seperate views - one from a big window overlooking the piazza anf the center of town and the other from our balcony with chairs and table overlooking the valley which was breathtakingly beautiful. We stumbled upon this hotel and we were glad we did. This hotel is located on the main piazza which is a perfect location. The value of the hotel was also great - we were in the suite with balcony for only 115 euros (which was the least expensive room we found in town - and those rooms had no view and were half the size). The room was right on the edge of part of the walled town, so not only were you able to look at part of the walled town but also of the green county side. Very good service, friendly staff found on two successive trips to Italy. Location is very good for the walking tour of San Gim.

My sister and I spent 3 nights at La Cisterna while on a walking tour of Tuscany. The hotel is charming. We were lucky to get a corner room looking out at the countryside. (Those whose rooms overlooked the piazza got restaurant noise in the evening, and streetsweepers in the morning.) Huge bathroom, which we appreciated after coming back from our walks each day. This lovely hotel is situated in the centre of San Gigmignano and is very easy to find. The staff were very friendly and helpful and even printed us a bus timetable to help us travel to Florence. The room was large, clean and nicely decorated and the view when we opened the shutters was amazing. The restaurant had wonderful views as well and the breakfast was very varied and substantial. Hotel is just fine (clean, large rooms, nice bathroom). Beautiful Tuscan view. Nice continental breakfast. The town though is pretty much just a tourist trap. Little shops selling the same things found throughout every other town/city. This town is so small that any accomodation you find (as long as it's clean) should work out just fine.
