Such a friendly welcome
From the moment we arrived at Grants Hotel we felt welcome. The staff could not do enough for us and everything was pleasant with our stay. We had got a great deal through looking at the website - three nights for the price of two. On phoning to book we were told we would have an upgraded room; when we arrived we were very impressed with a four-poster room with large bathroom/lobby, and thought this was a brilliant upgrade, then we saw the door on the other side of the room and discovered it was a separate sitting room, which was a lovely... more
A tired hotel
Furnishings have not been updated since the mid 1980's. We had holes in our hand towels and the 2 armchairs in the bedroom were worn on the arms and in need of recovering. The window frames needed painting; the bathroom door rattled when we walked across the room and the hanging rail in the wardrobe was bent and drooping. The food in the Bistro (which is where you also have breakfast) sounded OK but was poorly cooked. The rib eye steak was burnt therefore dry and chewy; the 'famous' seafood fish pie was almost entirely salmon and the... more
Highly Recommended
Arrived at the hotel at the same time as a hen party. The manager immediately upgraded us to an available four poster suite room without us even asking, as a goodwill gesture. This set the tone for a very enjoyable stay. The hotel has an excellent location - quiet but close enough to the centre of town. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The quality of the breakfast was more like a 4* offering, with a good range of choices and outstanding, attentive service. The hotel is affiliated to a local private health club, 'The Academy,' meaning that... more
Good Hotel
I too read the previous comments and was a little concerned about what we would find - BUT THE HOTEL IS LOVELY! Dont worry. We were attending a corporate function and all the rooms we used/saw were of good standard - yes it is a little dated in places but it is very clean - our room (large double) was spotless, as was our bathroom. The buffet on Saturday evening was great - good selection of sandwich fillings, goujons, pot wedges etc and at breakfast the choice was again varied, served by very courteous staff - better than a 5* in London I... more
Lovely Hotel, friendly and helpful staff.
We booked with laterooms and then read the reviews. Some of which made us a little concerned. However, we found the Hotel clean and welcoming. The rooms facilities were suprisingly good considering we only booked a standard room. The Queen sized bed was fantastic. (I didn't bother to look at the pillows because the crisp, clean, white cotton pillowcases were sufficient for my head to rest on.) The lady on reception was very pleasant when our, usually well behaved, elderly dog barked when we went for a walk round Harrogate. We didn't eat at... more
Visit this hotel after reading the review
When we visted this hotel to dine in the bistro using our hi-life diners card we found the hotel and the bistro very enjoyable and friendly staff looked after us throughout our visit. If we had listened and trusted the miserable people who left negative reviews about this loverly hotel we would have never visted it, this hotel and bistro is not a de-vere or a hilton but we will visit this hotel again because it was a brilliant place visit and dine. Keeping Up Appearances-thought I saw Hyacinth
I can only echo the previous review. A seventies hotel in drastic need of renovation. DO NOT STAY HERE -Furnishings are very poor and tired. Hotel if you can call it that - sorry I thought it was a guest house or is it more like an old peoples home, - frequented by the Wallace Arnold/Shearings blue rinse set. Rooms/beds are small, Take your own pillow, believe me if you remove the pillow case and look at what your putting your head on you will wish you had! Shower lacks thrust, bathroom has lino on the floor -Take your slippers or... more
Seventies Style ?
Do not stay at this hotel unless you are on a tight budget. We managed to get a good price on Late Rooms on a four poster room only to receive a phone call to say that the room was taken and had appeared in error. (We should have cancelled!) The alternative small double was incredibly cramped. I would say it is probably the smallest I have stayed in. The shower was pitiful! seventies style suite and trickle of water from a fixed head. Although the staff promised someone would attend to it, there is nothing short of a re-fit that would make... more
Great Hotel
My partner and i fancied a weekend away to Harrogate and i booked this hotel very last minute on Late Rooms. I was a little dubious when i was quoted £35 for bed and breakfast for the two of us by Late Rooms - surely too cheap to be a comfortable hotel?! How wrong i was! Firstly, i would like to thank the lady on reception, who we had to ring because we had got dreadfully lost. She stayed on the line and directed us to the hotel and was very patient with us. Upon our arrival, we were greeted warmly. We found the hotel... more
Lovely clean room, surly staff!!
We visited the Grant Hotel for a chill out weekend. We booked a superior room, which was unfortunately right next to the tv area, but actually never heard any noise(thanks goodness) The room was compact, but very clean, with a 6ft very comfortable bed. The bathroom, was also clean, but a little outdated. The staff unfortunately where surly, and not very interested in anything. The breakfast was below average, and a little cramped in the breakfast room also. It was an average stay, but could have been a whole lot better. Won't stay... more
