Park House Hotel

I stopped at the hotel twice in May and early June. The facility’s in the hotel are a little run down and could do with some modernisation. My first stay was from the 1st of May for 3 nights in a standard double room. I was given room 26, up 2 flights of stairs with no lift access, the room faced the water feature at the front of the hotel. I struggled to sleep at night due to the noise of the traffic from the road running parallel to the hotel. This used to be a MacDonald hotel until a few years ago and now has been spruced up under its new ownership. The place has a lot better feel to it since it has come away from a big chain and the staff are friendly and very helpful. Rooms are comfortable and ideal for a short business trip and include most mod cons. There is a restaurant and also meals available from a comfortable bar with lots of outside space. Typical grotty British hotel, catering mainly for the wedding and conference circuit. A nice reception area, but once leaving the friendly reception staff, the smell of chip fat fills every corridor. Shabby room with paper hanging from the ceiling, peeling paint on exposed pipes, draughty windows. The restaurant..... satisfactory food, but amateur in other respects: having to get own condiments, a bent fork, having to ask for a wine list, and so on. Was expecting great things but ended up dissapointed. The place is old & grand, and as such is not ideal as a hotel. The place smelt musty and was really hot and stuffy, the radiators being on max with no way to turn down. The room was really small and depressing with a small slot for a window, I guess because of the en-suite being incorporated in a space not designed for it. my wife and i decided that we needed to get away for a weekend and having searched the internet we found the park house and decided to give it a go as we had never been to this part of the country before. when we arrived we greeted by a smiling bubbly receptionist who treated us with great care and attention. the bedroom was very well presented and most welcoming. having lay down to take a quick nap after the long journey we woke up and decided to try the hotels restaurant and were very glad we did the meal was wonderful... more

My fiancee and myself were looking at a possible wedding venue for our forthcoming wedding in 2008, and had been recommended to go and see the Park House. This place is just 100% perfect - one of the best places I've stayed. Booked in to this hotel over the weekend, after reading good reviews. It looked amazing from the outside and we were greeted warmly and quickly. Good parking and secure area. We stayed at the Park House for a wedding and on first appearances the hotel and room seemed very nice. However, when trying to sleep you could hear music coming from a wedding reception somewhere in the hotel. This carried on until 12.30 or so, when all of a sudden the noise and chatter got far louder. After being kept awake by drunken singing / shouting etc i went to investigate and found that we were attempting to sleep above a bar full of about 40 drunk wedding guests!! I spent two days at this fantastic old hotel and it was without doubt my best hotel experience to date. The staff were superb, polite and knowledgable. The food was gourmet and the rooms immaculate. My daughter had her wedding reception on the second day and once again the organisation was excellant, with good food, good music and a great atmosphere. Thank you Parkhouse for a great weekend

My partner and I stayed for three nights over new year for a relaxing break, and that's exactly what we got. We were upgraded to a suite on arriving, always pleasant, and therefore had a fairly massive room and seperate living room space, all in slightly dated but fairly luxorious surroundings - the only problem was the dreadful shower.
