Back from the brink of disaster
My husband and I stayed here for two nights. We were made to feel welcome on arrival, but when we got to our room, the mattress was saggy, and had a brown stain running right the way through it. I reported this, and got short shrift. We went to use the pool, but it was freezing, the spa bath was lukewarm, and the light in the sauna had blown, so we immediately got changed. We again reported things, and the receptionist's reply was so rude she reduced me to tears, and wouldn't do anything to help, even though we offered to change the... more
Slightly Dated but ok
I spent one night here with a friend over Easter. It is true this place is completely pink and decorated in a very dated Faux-French kind of way, but it's alright if you're just looking for somewhere comfortable to stay for the night. We came to see Rye itself and were very impressed with how beautiful this little town is. As for the hotel, the staff were friendly, but the breakfast wasn't that impressive, in fact it wasn't that good at all. I'd recommend coffee & a croissant at "The Apothecary" cafe instead, which is just around the... more
Pink & Over Priced...POP !!
We stayed here for one night on the misunderstanding that we thought it was £85 for a room, which we thought would be ok, bearing in mind where it was situated, and the amenities it was offering. In actual fact it was £85 per person (in small print it does say this) for the Deluxe Superior, of course one would expect sheer luxury (to a degree) for this ridiculous price. The room was a nice size with windows front/back and side of the hotel presenting a good 'panoramic' view of Rye, good start if you can just get over the fact it is very... more
Stay somewhere better for less.
One night, £130. Hugely overpriced. Room was clean, but very dated and smelt of bleach/chlorine. Staff wore dental surgery outfits, and made you feel about as welcome. Rye is nice, and looking around, we saw plenty of better places to stay that will also cost you less.
Pretty in pink, we liked it!
We stayed at the Rye Lodge for two nights with our 11 month old daughter. They weren't overly friendly when I booked it over the phone and after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor I was a little bit worried. However, we were very pleased with our stay. We were made to feel very welcome with our baby and all. The hotel had a real English, family owned, cosy feeling. It is very far from the today's modern style decorated hotels, but in twee old Rye it kind of makes sense. Funnily enough, like the previous reviewer we stayed in room... more
Nightmare on Barbie Street!!!!
We have just got back from a one night stay at the Rye Lodge Hotel. We stayed in room 12 (Mersault). The decoration consisted of pink lampshades, pink head boards on the bed, pink wallpaper, false white columns and fake French furniture. Barbie might like it!!! The whole hotel stunk of a floral airspray. We were shown to our room and headed straight for the open window just so we could breathe fresh air again!!! Our bathroom was microscopic. A shower, a basin and a wc had been crammed into 1.5 square metres!!! And the light... more
Over-rated
Arrived in room ('Loire') that smelt strongly of stale cigarette smoke. Opened windows to clear smell and staff installed ioniser - should not be necessary. Could not leave windows open when not in room; a verandah is situated immediately below them, easily accessible from the road, posing security problem. Noise from passing traffic intruded if windows were opened when we were in the room. Bed comfortable, bathroom clean but nothing special. Atmosphere was reminiscent of a care home. On first afternoon, internal doors of two rooms... more
excellent hotel
Have just spent several days at the Rye Lodge hotel and would certainly recommend it. Its more for couples than families. However there were children there and this created no problems at all as far as we could see. We had a superior room which was very comfortable and clean. Very good shower as well as bath- lots of fluffy white towels and bath robes also plenty of shower gel, shampoo etc. Good tea and coffee facilities and a mini bar- just fill in form and hand over at check out time - so high trust! Small swimming pool which was... more
Relaxing Weekend Away
Stayed here with 6 members of my family in June. The bedrooms were clean with good facilities. The staff are very welcoming and made our stay thoroughly enjoyable. The evening meals are out of this world and I highly recommend experiencing this amazing feast. The range of wines was very good. It was my sisters birthday and the staff came out with a birthday cake and candles with no prior warning which was a lovely thought. The breakfast in the mornings was varied and extremely tasty. We would certainly return to this hotel without... more
Nice place for a short break
Stayed at the Rye Lodge hotel for a short break in May 2005. The hotel's very well located and has its own pool and car park; I think no others can boast this in the centre of Rye, though some further out have them. The pool is quite small, but is nice for a quick swim when you get back from walking. There's also a jacuzzi (not too warm but pleasant enough), and a small steam room and a sauna (didn't use these). Staff were helpful and breakfast (included) was very nice, if slightly slow coming, and included vegetarian sausages... more
