Studley Hotel and Orchid Restaurant

Renovation in progress however an good example of how an older English hotel can be updated to modern standards. We had an executive room which had a plasma tv, ample space and a well appointed bathroom. Clean, restaurant excellent, breakfast too. Having stayed at the Studley Hotel in Harrogate recently ( 14/10/05 ), both my wife and found it comfortable, nothing else just comfortable. The rooms stated as being executive, don't be fooled, they are no more than a Travelodge room with a power shower ! The passageways leading to the rooms certainly need redecorating or even decorating, oh and they omitted to tell us about the scaffolding, which covered most of the front of the building .... not a nice outlook first thing in the morning when opening the curtains. Pretty shabby hotel, and room we had was very small. Restuarant was good but other than that not a hotel to relax in.

Stayed in a single room. Furniture old fashioned, bedding plain, room small, bed small. No sound proofing between rooms and could hear every word and snore from rooms next door. Hotel has a restauarant and bar and the noise from both kept me awake. There is a fan or extractor unit situated in the ceiling of the corridor which created a constant buzzing noise which was loud and hard to ignore. Stayed during a conference in June, good service, Orchid was excellent, best meal that I have had for a long time. Like the free internet computer in the lounge area and the availability of free wireless surfing which I did not use as in my room I had a computer port for high speed internet surfing great as it was a free service, just have to get your ticket from reception. Breakfast was good. Clean rooms and good warm service. A+ in my view

Stayed here with my boyfriend for two nights at New Year, took us ages to find it because we got lost but when we entered the building we were immediately helped with our luggage to the reception upstairs, then shown to our room. Very clean & modern, all white with pine furniture & nice lighting, it was rather small though, we found it rather awkward to move around in, especially in the bathroom which was very compact. The Studley is a good 3 - 4 star hotel (officialy rated 3 star, but a little better than what you'd expect). Location is ideal - very close to the middle of town & restaurant area. Staff are friendly and will provide info on local services if requested. It's not glamour plus but the updated rooms are comfortable & very clean. If you have time try out the Turkish Baths in Harrogate - beautiful.

have been coming to the Studley for 8 years and in the last few years has seen an amazing transformation.....The Studley has always been known for its food but now the Orchid hits the right spot, this restaurant I think will do great anywhere..it is out of this world. My room was fine before bit old fashioned but now the decor is right up to date. When in town always book here!! ask for the refurbished rooms!

Booked the Studley in December thorugh a friend's recommendation and I must admit that even I was pleasantly suprised. This hotel looks very traditional from the outside, but once inside: 1) the Orchid is just out of this world, you don't get the stuffiness, of a hotel restaurant, the place was humming!!!
