Wyndham Grand Bay Hotel Isla Navidad

My husband and I spent 7 days at the Grand Bay in August from the 7th to the 14th. We had a wonderful time. It was of course off-season, so we had the most personalized service of anywhere we had ever gone. I would like to start with saying that it is not really in Manzanillo. We actually took a taxi to Manzanillo one day and it is about 30-45 minutes away. There is no need to arrange transportation from the airport with the hotel. I would like to start by saying that all of the staff at Grand Bay were very friendly and helpful. The front desk/management was a different story. We made our reservations online (they were much cheaper) but had to pay in advance. We had booked a 2 bedroom suite. When we arrived we were told that our suite had a plumbing problem and we were being “upgraded” to a one bedroom suite and given an extra room. My family and I stayed at the Grand Bay from July 1st-8th, 2004. Although we encountered a few glitches when we checked into our room (i.e. hotel safe wasn't functioning properly, the toilet had a broken part and the shower leaked water into the marble bathroom floor -which later became a slippery surface for my 4 year old who of course was destined to fall flat on his face before I could put more towels down! - being a prepared mom, I had packed some ointment which reduces swelling/bruising). My Family recently spent five days at this resort. Having read the reviews and seen the rating of the hotel (number one in Mexico) on the travel channel, I had been looking forward to our vacation since planning it in February. We had vistited the Grand Bay when they first opened eight years ago and once again we were very happy with our stay. Isla Navidad located outside of Manzanillo is somewhat a secluded area which offers lush surroundings, breathtaking views, wonderful sunsets and complete relaxation. My new husband and I recently spent eight days here for our honeymoon. First, let me start by saying that the hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are immaculate, the landscaping prestine, and the staff is quite friendly. There are three pools, though two are almost "secret" and hard to find, but if you go, walk the grounds and visit other floors...you will be delighted when you find them. This place is fabulous. The resort seems like it has been magnificently sculpted from a large piece of marble in the side of bluff overlooking Bahia de Navidad. Breathtaking panoramas and architecural views are everywhere. One could easily spend an entire day just browsing the grounds and admiring the decor and architecutre. The Grand Bay is a fine, opulent resort, at a comfortable distance from the tourist traps of Puerto Vallarta. It is easily accessible from Houston with a direct two and half hour flight to Manzanillo. The staff is courteous, helpful and really know how to pamper their guests. Being members of Wyndham By Request we had assorted cheese and crackers as well as fruit juice, delivered to our room upon arrival. The rooms and hotel are gorgeous with unbelivable masonry and tile work throughout. During our six night stay, the hotel was empty for the first three nights and due to an "emergency" the pool deck was being jackhammered AND the waterslides were closed. Not until the arrival of a "large company" did the work stop and the hotel then came alive (with band @ pool during lunch hours, big buffet brunch, etc). We just got back from 12 days at the Grand Bay May 11-23. It was at full occupancy most of the time but we loved it anyway. The service was incredible. Twice a day maid service. Mints on your bed at turndown. The little town nearby Barra is really safe and the people are friendly and nice. It is nothing like Los Cabos or Puerto Vallarta. We made the mistake of waiting until the last night to go to Antonio's. Go in the beginning and go often. Skip the Terrace. Have the chocolate and banana dessert at the cafe.
