Encino Hotel

This is a nice, basic, clean little hotel right in the heart of Puerto Vallarta. If you want to be easy walking distance to shopping, the beach, and great restaurants, this is perfect. It is NOT a luxury hotel--stay at one of the resorts if that's what you're looking for. After reading the negative review from the other Denverite, I thought I should give my opinion. I have stayed in six hotels in PV, from quite ritzy to budget. I have also stayed in many other countries south of the border. I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Encino. It was very clean, everything worked well, and I found the staff very friendly. The Encino Hotel was the worst place we have ever stayed in. Day 1 - it took 4 requests over a period of 7 hours in order to get towels for our room. Day 2 the cable went out and we were told that we could not get a refund to move to another hotel that had cable just 2 blocks away. I also made a simple request of the desk clerk to make dinner reservations for us and was told very rudely NO! Save the aggrevation and stay elsewhere!

I have stayed Encino in December 21-25. They gave me the room that I requested (non smoking, rever side view as someone on tripadvisor recommended.) The room was not ready when I got there so I had to wait for 1 hr but it's not a big deal. It was such a nice view. It was so close to restaurants, shopping, beach and activities in town. I traveled by myself and safty was a great deal for me but it was very close to everything in downtown, sooo convenient. Even walking from end of Malecon around 2AM, I was totally fine. The Hotel Encino is rustic by American standards. I stayed there in June of 2005. The A/C was noisy but worked great. The hotel was kept spotlessly clean. With the current exchange rate, my stay averaged about $36 - $38 per night. The staff is friendly, the bar upstairs has good drinks and a great view. The food there was only ok. The Hotel Encino is a perfect Mexican hotel - the location next to the Rio Cuale is wonderful and the price is certainly right. If you enjoy Centro Puerto Vallarta, you cannot find a better place to stay. Very clean and spacious, and the staff (while not speaking much English) was cheerful and helpful. Our online reservation was handled perfectly. great place to stay... great location... great staff.. only downfall was the maid who would knock in the morning for housecleaning even though the "do not disturb" sign was up... shower in same room as toilet, found that kind of odd, but no problem... air conditioning...

Fine hotel. Excellent location. Safe. Clean. Friendly staff even though most staff does not speak much English. Keep in mind this is a simple hotel, no frills. Ask for rooms that are away from the generator(?) I used to stay in the hotel zone, but defenitely would stay at the Encino from now on!

My wife and I stayed in El Encino Hotel from March 23rd-March 26, 2003. We loved it! The price was good (about $46.00 USD) a night. The staff was excellent, very helpful. The room was very clean and had air conditioning and color cable television. It is in the downtown area, you can walk to everything. Yes, it is a budget hotel and therefore not four star. But if you want to get a feel for Puerto Vallarta, it's people and atmosphere, stay in El Encino.

We have stayed several times at the Encino, everytime with no reservations. The staff is friendly and speak some english. The manager is available if problems arise. Every room we have stayed in was well kept up and always cleaned daily. This place is not new or fancy but always clean and well staffed by caring people. The swimming pool is roof top and is maintained well also. The placement of the Hotel puts you with-in walking distance of shopping, banking, and eating places. We plan to revisit the Encino in Feb. 2003.
