Nov 2006, Miss N Buck

Spent a week here in July 2006, after reading some bad reports was a bit worried about what our stay would be like, however we had a brilliant time. I went with my boyfriend and there weren't any major faults about this hotel.
The room was lovely, everything worked and it was very clean, the fridge was very handy to keep some bottled water nice and cool. Cleaners came in daily and we were always supplied with clean towels.
Also had our own garden area which was lovely no complaints about the room. Did see 3 cockroaches in our garden and terrace area and 1 managed to find its way into the room so did have to try and keep these out but if you need to keep the windows shut a fan can be hired from reception for the week.
The food was nice well presented and lots of choice so there was always something for everyone. The snack bar in the mornings and afternoons was ok, not a lot of food so have to be quick if you want a toasty, cake or hotdog but still fairly good standard.
There were branded fizzy drinks (coke, fanta, sprite etc), local wine and beer all available on tap all day from the pool side bar and also in the sun terrace and evening bars.
The 3 pools were lovely, very clean with a maintenance person present most of the time to keep the place clean and tidy, also the jacuzzis were very nice and relaxing. There were plenty of sun loungers around the pool areas and the big garden areas near the pool which were great if you wanted to get away from the noise of the pool.
Even when the pools were fairly busy there was still plenty of space for everyone as the main pool was huge.
The evening entertainment was ok, not brilliant, was good for children but this was held in the main theatre bar so if you did want to listen to it you could go to the pool terrace bar which was sheltered and very relaxing in the evenings, not much to do, but we found a pack of cards very handy.
The poolside entertainment was amusing very good for the kids and lots of sports and activities to do for most ages.
San augustin itself is quite small, the beaches were very nice but a walk up and down 150 steps to get there but it is worth it, very attractive area with a spar shop only a 10 min walk away. Playas d'ingles is not very far and the taxis are very cheap always one outside the hotel well with a visit as very nice area.
Great views from the outer boundaries of the hotel as it is on top of a hill, views of the beach, sea, near by towns well worth the look.
Overall an excellent holiday and would recommend to anyone of any age.

Oct 2006, Miss E Bowler

Me and my boyfriend went on this holiday for a week and we thought it was fab!
The only downfall about this hotel is that it doesn't cater for English as well as it does the Germans, there were no English entertainment on a night so we therefore had to go out on a night and spend money even though we had paid for all inclusive.
The food was absolutely fantastic really looked forward to having something to eat. The pools were rather cold but overall we had a good holiday. We would definitely go there again.

How could anyone fault this hotel!...
9 / 10
Sep 2006, Mrs C McDonald

How could anyone fault this hotel! The only reason I give it 9/10 was a lost point for no air-con in the room, however an air-con unit could be hired from reception for 90 euro for 2 weeks.
Could not fault the food. Breakfast lots of cold meats, cheese, pate, French sticks, baguettes, omelette, beans, sausages, bacon (streaky). Lunch varied but lots of choice and again same it dinner time. It you wished a snack (If you had room) Ice cream was served all day from the top bar, from 10.30 - 12.30 hot dogs and toasties. The best thing about the ALL-Inclusive was the drinks, no waiting in long queues to be served, it was all self service (except for spirits) Help yourself to beer, wine, soft drinks round the pool or in the restaurant.
As for the location what a fab view over the sand dunes of Maspalomas. If you think 3.70 euros (about £2.60) was expensive to get a taxi into Playa del Ingles should you really be going on holiday if you’re that tight! Only 5 euros to Holiday World (£3.50) where the kids will love, all the show rides, rollercoaster, kiddie rides etc.
Walk down to the bus stop at the clinica roca take about 10 mins and 2a + 1c can go to Puerto Rico for 4.50 euros and then take a boat to Puerto Morgan which is like little Venice. I really could not fault the accom at all, large rooms, 3 pools, Jacuzzi, good food, kids club, and a great animation team. If you don’t mind being that bit out of the main strip its fine. Great holiday, could not fault it.

Sep 2006, Miss C Namty

This hotel was ok, the room was basic but acceptable. The food wasn't really anything to write home about, not much English food and the food that was available was not always warm! The snack bar was pretty terrible as it was only cold hot dogs and 'toasted' ham and cheese sandwiches.
The evening entertainment was slightly poor although we didn't spend much time at night in the hotel. Being two teenage girls we spent most nights in playa del ingles at the kasbah centre which I would seriously recommend!
I totally disagree with the comment about taxi's being expensive, a taxi from right outside the hotel (there's a little taxi stop outside) to the kasbah centre cost about 4euros which works out to about £3.
There is steps to the beach but they weren't as steep as what i had been led to think they were! There isn't much around the hotel and the hotel is situated at the top of a hill! If you’re looking for a hotel within easy walking distances to things this isn't the one for you!

Aug 2006, Mrs G Virgo

The room was okay, pools excellent, a promise in the brochure of snacks was not kept, a tray of snacks - about 10 pieces of bread with grilled cheese and tomato on a tray were put out at 22.00hrs once the tray was gone no more were put out. This was appalling as the hotel was full to capacity.
The hotel was quite a way from any outside activities e.g. bars etc the beach was accessible via some really steep steps not good for some one aged or young children.
Poor entertainment at night although the in house entertainment tried their best to make it as good as possible. Taxis cost a fortune to go into playa, the nearest bus stop was down a long hill therefore difficult for families with children all in all we had an acceptable holiday but I couldn’t recommend it we were a family with 6 children ranging from 4 to 14 and 7 adults.

Aug 2006, Mrs D Gay

After reading some of the reviews I was quite anxious about going to this hotel, however it turned out ok. I agree with some of the other comments about the snacks being poor and the fact that after 11pm you weren’t able to get a drink unless you were willing to pay (not even a cup of tea or coffee).
San Augustin itself I found to be a very quiet resort with one shopping centre which was empty most of the time, which meant that most nights we would get taxis into Playa Del Ingles where there was some lovely shopping centres and a better beach.
A lot of people have said that the nearest supermarket was the Spar at the bottom of the hill which was quite a walk, however we did find another shop just outside of the hotel, it was quite hidden away but had everything you needed and was a lot nearer than the spar.
The rooms were basic but ok, although the curtains needed a good wash. The positive side of this hotel was that the grounds were lovely with lots of facilities such as two pools, jacuzzis, tennis courts, football courts, play area for the children and kids the club.
The entertainment team were absolutely fantastic and I think that if it wasn’t for them we may have rated the holiday score lower. Although I wouldn’t go back to the IFA Interclub Atlantic Hotel I can’t say that we had a bad holiday although I guess it could have been better.

This is a German owned hotel and run...
5 / 10
Aug 2006, tinkerwoo

This is a German owned hotel and run with the German and French tourist in mind. Really not ideal for British tourists. The resort is virtually non-existent. The hotel is at the top of a hill and nearest shop is spar which is about 5 - 10 mins walk down hill. The hotel rooms are clean and clean towels provided every day.
The food is ok. However it is very repetitive and after a week you really have had enough. During the second week the hotel was full and this was reflected in the dinning room as staff could not keep up, consequently there was always a shortage of glasses for drinks.
All inclusive, I think this would be better reflected as full board. Meals served three times per day in the restaurant and the snacks in between were basic and in short supply, cold hot dogs and warm bread with cheese on it!
Drinks, all drinks stop at 11pm. You cannot even buy a soft drink unless you are prepared to go to the nightclub, not everyone’s ideal. You are only permitted to ask for two drinks at a time.
The pool area is nice and reasonably clean however they do use a lot of chemicals in the water. There were numerous ear infections whilst we were there, the common source seemed to be the pool.
Sun beds, well, if you want one of these by the pool then be prepared to get up very early (5am) to put out your towels but be aware that we had some taken. Even if you get up early there is no guarantee that your towels will be where you left them as some guests felt it appropriate to move them if they wanted the beds you had reserved, really, yes sun bed wars!
Be aware of the timeshare touts and holiday club scams that are operating out there. They will promise you the earth, do not under any circumstances be drawn in. They only want your money.
We met some lovely people on our holiday and did have quite a nice time but mainly thanks to the company we kept, so if any of you read this, thanks guys.
We were all of the same opinion and many were looking forward to going home. Will not be returning to Interclub, in fact not really sure that we will return to Gran Canaria.
If you have an opportunity to move hotels then do so, preferably to another resort, say Puerto Rico or Maspalomas.

I read a couple of bad reviews on...
10 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss C Hamilton

I read a couple of bad reviews on this resort days after I booked my holiday and was immediately filled with doom, however it turned out to be one of the best holidays I’ve had!
The food was varied I was spoilt for choice and it didn’t make me poorly which usually happens. There were saintly options in fresh fruit and salads and lots of naughty treats in cakes and chips! look out for the spirit measures the barmen give you as they can be over generous this took me by surprise after two pina coladas I was floored!
The location therefore helped in the sense that there was plenty of walking to be done to repay my sins! I spent many a night strolling up and down the coastline and there are some fantastic views out to the Atlantic sea with clear blue waters and brown sandy beaches in the day and bright lights embedded in the quiet hills at night.
The hotel was very clean however the maids can be a little impatient when they want to get in so bolt your door if you've had a heavy night! The pools were clean spacious and surrounded by luscious green gardens with palm trees and plenty of sunbeds. No complaints there.
I’d go back again and if I had to give you one recommendation I’d say check out the hotel entertainment. I didn’t until the last night and I wish I had been more times. The entertainers are a great crowd!

Hotel - Pros Absolutely no complaints...
4 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss J Swandells

Hotel - Pros
Absolutely no complaints regarding the cleanliness of the complex, absolutely beautiful grounds, plenty of sun beds, staff generally helpful (the ones who could speak extremely broken English). Rooms very clean (no cockroaches came visiting). Food nothing to write home about, although their scrambled egg in the morning is very nice. Drinks - 10.30am - 11.00pm (bar closes) You cannot even buy a soft drink.
The Bora Bora nightclub on the site really needs to be refurbished (bit tatty) and you have to buy your drinks here between (11.00pm - 1.30pm). Although one thing is for sure you are certain of getting a seat because it is never busy!! Is that because people have decided that they have paid enough for an All Inclusive holiday and are not prepared to pay for drinks.
Cons
(Make sure you check out the price and ensure you get the best price for your holiday. I paid £900 for two people and while on holiday I met a couple of other people who had booked on the same day as me, but their holiday cost them £540 for two people. This was with the same tour operator.) The hotel is situated on a hill and not very good for people who have mobility problems, health problems or breathing difficulties. OK if you have oxygen on hand! Very isolated, very noisy especially the Lobos part of the complex road facing. Due to this being a blind corner drivers of buses, cars, motorbikes and mopeds continuously sound their horns and not just once!
The noise generally starts between 6.30am and goes on until 12.30am (the following morning). As there is a car hire place across from the hotel, you can be sure that what goes up the road must come back down as the road ends at the entrance to the hotel. Certainly not a peaceful holiday! Certainly not suited for people with health problems! And I would certainly not go back!

Jun 2006, Mr B Boyd

The hotel was nice, very clean and was constantly being cleaned. The two swimming pools and three Jacuzzis were excellent! Although my wife contracted a very bad throat infection from the swimming pool.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful with lush greenery and there are lots of sports facilities including tennis courts, volley ball court and a diving club. The food was superb, great Chinese, Italian and meat dishes with salads, various potatoes and the desserts were unbelievable. There isn't much to do in San Augustin except walk along the coastal path which you have to go down and up 150+ steps to do. It is close to Playa des Ingles, you can see the resort from the hotel.
The hotels downfalls:
The Tirma and Tara blocks of rooms are very noisy, lots of noise during the night and deliveries making lots of noise very early (5am) every morning.
There are broken tiles and paint falling off in rooms and in the pool.
The hotel is on a hill soaring above San Augustin, it isn't suitable for the elderly. I wouldn't go back to this hotel because I have been to better hotels.

I cannot believe that people can come...
10 / 10
May 2006, Miss C Thawman

I cannot believe that people can come on here and moan about this hotel. Me and my boyfriend are a young couple and stayed here for a week.
The reception is well presented (when arriving, I was shocked that this was our hotel, giving some of the reviews on here that had no truth in whatsoever)
Our room was basic, however, clean and tidy with a very big balcony.
The food was amazing! There was so much on offer. There is a Chinese counter offering different foods every night, Italian counter with pizzas and different pastas. Potatoes, chips, salads, fruits, ice creams, rolls (which are the best I’ve tasted!)Etc. You will never get bored of the food and drinks on offer.
The beach is 153 steps, but the amount of food you eat, you will have to use the steps! And its not even that bad! If you have a nice slow walk down, then its fine. And the beach is nice too. Its small and private which is good, the water is nice and clear and there is enough sun beds. We visited the beach twice in our stay, as it was very nice.
The swimming pools are great. As for them being cold, you’re in Gran Canaria in the hot sun. Do you really want warm water?! Its great for jumping straight into when your boiling up from the sun. Its so refreshing. There are three pools and three Jacuzzis which are absolutely amazing! You couldn’t ask for better pools.
As for cockroaches, I think I saw two. One on the hotel grounds and one in a market which is nowhere near the hotel!
Club Bora Bora was okay. Went there once. That’s the only thing that needs a facelift, because this isn’t all inclusive.
Staff and reps couldn’t do enough. They were brilliant. If you are going to this hotel, go on the excursions trip millennium flashback. The best night out in ages and brilliant for every one of any age!
I think that some of the people who have written these reviews must have stayed at a different hotel as there is absolutely nothing to fault at this hotel. Holiday was amazing, couldn’t have asked for anything better, and will definitely be returning in the near future.

Apr 2006, Mr D Elsey

After reading that this hotel seemed to have a poor rating, we were pleasantly surprised to find these to be untrue.
We had booked two rooms but were placed in a villa. This villa was 40 by 12 feet on each floor and comprised of two floors. Ground floor consisted on kitchenette, toilet, dinning area & lounge area, with a 16 by 12 feet patio, Upstairs consisted on two rooms (equal size) & bathroom with toilet. There was also an outside veranda (9 by 9 Feet) overlooking the see & beach. Outside furniture of 4 sun loungers, 5 chairs and a table were split between the two areas.
Complex in general was large with more than adequate area for sun loungers, three pools all of good size with an outside stage area for daytime activities, however the children’s pool did have a fault with it one day , for which was drained repaired and re-filed before the next morning.
There was a huge children’s play area, a number of tennis courts, football/basket ball court & volley ball court.
Food was plentiful and varied as was the drink. The staff were always on hand and very helpful.
Animation team kept you busy all day, and performed above the call of duty when it became show-time.
Disco was in need of a face lift, and drinks were not included in here 23.00 to 01.30.
We are looking forward to returning here for our next holiday. We would recommend this as one hotel to try out.
