The White Swan

Just stayed for one night in executive room for a trip to the races. The staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The room was superb, large and airy immaculately clean and very comfortable. Ok so the view wasn't great but we were only there one night and unless you are going to stay in your room all day who cares?! We had lunch in the bar and the food was extremely high class and very reasonably priced considering the sizes of the portions, in fact one of the best meals we have had in a long time. We stayed here for a special weekend, our wedding anniversary. Leaving it until last minute The White Swan Hotel was about the only one with rooms still available, now I know why. It was ok, the young staff were friendly and helpful, with the exception of the older lady on reception when we arrived, was not so welcoming and made you feel a little uncomfortable. We booked the hotel and then read the reviews so were expecting worse. The room was clean and comfortable; there was hot water, just needed to let it run for a while! Walked out of breakfast on the first morning as there was nothing left at 8.45, went at 7.30 the next morning food was ok, have had better. We paid £60 a night for an executive room, overall, not too bad.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Our room (reserved and charged as twin) was actually a suite with a full bedroom and sitting room. It was spacious and very comfortable. We loved it. I rated it above average. I would have rated it excellent but the breakfast(included in the price of the room)was not very good. It was excellent in all other respects.

We stayed for one night as a treat and group get together, my husband has real problems walking so we requested a room which wasnt too far from reception, which is exactly what we got. The room was massive, but in the middle of the building and the only "view" we had was of a flat roof! I had a shower before we left to go out for the evening and I dont think the cold water was coming out at all because it was scalding hot! The superior room was booked through Tourist Information and after we knew the name of the hotel, I checked out the reviews here. We were very apprehensive about the one-night stay. We had to walk what seems miles to get to the room with corridors and stairs going on and on. We joked that any further and we'd be back home. Due to lack of cash, I stayed in "White Swan". I had read some bad reviews here but I thought "what the heck"! Cold water and cockroaches were the only two things that could scare me and fortunately, I did not experience any of those two! The hotels looks so great from outside! The restaurant is also brilliant (not the breakfast area though either) and the food very good as well. The rooms, which are in a labyrinth (there are signs everywhere showing the way!), are just OK. We stayed over Christmas last year. The place is 500 years old so you expect the old draft and badly fitting door, but everything was secure. We spent the late evening playing charades in the bar with the staff and guests until 2 in the morning, some sloped off, some stayed but everybody had a good time. Food wonderful, staff a pleasure, but then we are not the sort of people who turn up and start demanding. We spoke to the staff with respect and recieved the same. We stayed in one of the executive rooms (room 2) over the weekend for our anniversary. The room was very large but quite grubby, peeling paint mouldy shower curtains etc. The windows did not close properly and were insufficient in keeping out the persistant loud hum of air conditioning units from neighbouring buildings. Stayed at the White Swan Hotel on sat 1st Oct and was very impressed. we stayed in the wonderful room 103. It has so much character, its own fireplace, with excellent views over the town square. The room was immaculately clean and well stocked. The evening meal in the restaurant was excellent, as was the service. The management team were very helpful and hands on, and very passionate about The White Swan hotel and Stratford. We cannot wait to stay in December. Very well priced and value for money. We recommend it if staying in a real hotel... more
