Lovely small friendly Hotel
We can only echo the other (positive) reviews of this small boutique Hotel. Stuart and Karen were wonderful hosts. The Amsterdam room was lovely with a very comfortable four poster bed. Breakfast was absolutely first rate. Full Marks for a nice wide screen TV and DVD player, a nice selection of teas, bottled water etc in the bedroom. No one else seems to have mentioned the rather steep uphill walk back from Torquay town. If you were elderly or infirm this could be an issue. A little background music over breakfast might have been... more
Stylish Hotel
I've stayed at the hotel 3 times, and I highly recommend it. It's a lovely building, all the rooms are individually decorated, to a very high standard, and they definitely have the wow factor. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfast is very good, and the location is convenient, on a nice quiet street. On the downside, parking can be a bit of a problem at times, they only serve breakfast between 8.30 and 9, which is a bit limited, especially at weekends. Although the rooms are all beautiful, the ensuite... more
Lovely boutique hotel - highly recommended
We've just had a wonderful weekend staying in the India Suite at the Hillcroft. The owners, Stuart and Karen, are really warm and welcoming, and the hotel has a lovely feel to it as soon as you walk in. Our suite was fantastic - a 6ft wide four poster bed, en-suite shower and loo, a sitting room, as well as a separate bathroom (ideal for a long candle-lit bath after a hard day's walking around Torquay!). It was clean, peaceful, stylish and comfortable, with plenty of space to spread out in. I treated myself to a holistic body... more
Perfect
I stayed in the Provence Suite in June 2006 whilst in Torquay for a bridge event. The master bedroom was quiet and comfortable. The suite as a whole was spacious and very good value. I liked the unusual bathroom very much The owner was very helpful and happily provided supplies of diet coke and coffee when I was sitting out in the sun in the morning after a bit of a heavy night. There is a nice little terrace outside. The hotel generally feels very relaxed and cheerful. I plan to go back next time I am in Torquay.
Fantastic romantic getaway!!
My partner and I were looking for a quiet getaway in a nice hotel with pleasant surroundings, near to local amenities and this is eactly what we got and more! We arrived late on friday night and found the hotel easy to find and was situated in a nice location away from the noisy main strip of Torquay. I was completely surprised by the individual decor throughout the hotel. We stayed in the Lombak which is on the basement and was really spacious and and the room itself was beautifully decorated. I also requested to have a look at... more
Absolutely gorgeous!
We stayed at the Hillcroft for four days and loved every second we were there. We stayed in the Amsterdam room which was comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean. As a boutique hotel each room is different, the main attraction of this room being its gorgeous four poster bed. We found the owners to be exceptionally helpful and friendly with lots of advice for visitors to the area. Nothing seemed to be any trouble for them and in our experience the bar was always open when they were in which seemed to be the case throughout our... more
Stay Clear of the India Suite
The hotel has been taken over in the last couple of months by a pleasant couple but we were extremely disappointed with the room. The India Suite is in a dark basement that has a problem with smell which could be either damp or from the ensuite shower/toilet. The bar was closed (mid August) and we found the place to be cold. A good, quiet location but they need to address quite a few issues.
A touch of style in Torquay
Stayed here for 4 nights for business then leisure. Great central location within easy walking distance of the sea, restaurants etc. but quiet during the night. The owner, Rick, is delightful and makes you really feel at home. Nothing is too much trouble (Rick knew we were out for dinner one evening and when it started raining, he knocked on our door and offered to book a taxi). It is described as a "boutique" hotel and that is a fair description as all the rooms are different and tastefully decorated. No chintz here.<br... more
Torquay-tastic
We are 4 work colleagues and were attending a meeting at the riviera centre. We shared the provence suite which was spacious and stylish. Rick was delightful, as was Archie the dog and they made us feel very at home. Breakfast was delicious, particularly Rick's muesli. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone, particularly people who like boutique over chintz.
Luxury with a Capital L
The Hillcroft is Torquay's only 'Boutique' hotel and has 5 en suite rooms and 2 suites - one a double bedroom with lounge and bathroom and the other a two bedroom / lounge and slate bathroom extravaganza. The owners, Rick and Mark along with Archie the dog work very hard to make sure your stay is everything you would like it to be. Evening meals are available upon request and Mark will cook whatever you ask for - he was doing a full roast chicken dinner for one lot of guests when we were there and we have previously had home made soup,... more
