Good, but reception staff let it down
First impressions count and after walking through the welcoming courtyard we were greeted (not really) at check-in by a mumbling, non-smiling, unfriendly woman. Our room itself was very comfortable with an outstanding bathroom / shower. The only gripe about it was its location next to an alleyway (we were awoken at 7am each morning by the emptying of the hotel's bottle bins). The restaurant served decent enough food with a great wine list. The bar provided a relaxing environment for pre and post dinner drinks. Check-out was chaos as several... more
Shabby room, Overrated!
Stayed at the Hotel DuVIn in Bristol for a Wedding. Initial impressions are a trendy, friendly well run establishment and on the whole this is true....But the hotel was obviously done up a few years ago and it is looking very 'tired' We had an awful room in the attic with dark sludge brown colours, it was very oppressive, filthy carpet, badly decorated with paint on the tiles and wood where it shouldnt have been. We couldnt open the windows and therfore had the AC on all night and both woke with the most horrificsore throats. The bathroom... more
Absolutely fabulous
What a lovely hotel. Reception and check-in was swift and we were shown to our wonderful room. The room itself was large, well lit and, of course, the usual fantastic Hotel du Vin bathroom. I headed straight for the shower and then relaxed in a bubble bath - sheer indulgence. Food was excellent and service throughout was outstanding, though I would expect no less from Hotel du Vin. Highly recommended.
Loved it!
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Hotel du Vin for the weekend , and loved almost everything about the hotel. The staff are extreamly friendly and helpful, the hotel beautiful and unique. The showers and tub's are spectacular. The bar was excelent, and while we did not have dinner in the restaurant, the breakfest was only mediocre.
Convenient and comfortable
Slap bang in the middle of Bristol, this busy hotel proved to be all that we wanted - an efficient, quiet and well equipped place for a quick overnight stay with a bit of style thrown in. Despite its location on the main road, two lanes in either direction, in the heart of the city, noise was not the slightest problem. I imagine that parking could be, but you are offered a parking place when you make a reservation and it'd be a good idea to take up that option. The bed was good and king-sized, pillows foam and horrid (always travel... more
Bristols best hotel- from a local!
Firstly- It is May 2007 and I stayed in August 06, apologies for the delay. This is where I proposed to my now fiance and the room was wonderful. A mezzanine (spell check please?) bathroom upstairs- with huge and I mean huge shower and free standing victorian bath. It isn't cheap (around £250 for a suite) but if it is a special occasion worth it. Downside was I went to check in before taking my fiance and the room was not ready on time - not good ( you will appreciate I was nervous at this point), but 30 miins later we got back... more
The best shower in the world
I love this hotel, where I stay when on business in Bristol. The loft-style rooms with whitewashed stoned walls and beam ceilings are the among the best I've ever had. I love the shower, it's the best in the world with a long shower area behind glass that's entered from either side of the bathroom and has a HUGE sunflower shower head that drops a huge and reviving weight of water on you. Arriving from the U.S., I'm usually tired and jet lagged and this shower and a short nap cures it all. I love the lounge and the terrace, which... more
Must Revisit!
The renovation of the historic sugar mill was extremely well done, and the bed, bath, and public areas both luxurious and comfortable. Naming the guest rooms after wines was a fun idea, carried thru with actual bottles in a lighted niche outside each room. The staff was friendly and accommodating: they booked us a window table at a fabulous waterfront restaurant. We would definitely return to this property.
Expensive but luxury weekend
Stayed for two days over the weekend with significant other. Excellent experience. First rate service from the super smart staff, enjoyed a game of snooker in their exquisite snooker room. The bedroom was minimalist but homely (a difficult combination) and I particularly liked the Egyptian cotton sheets. We didnt eat at the restaurant so I can't comment but it looked extremely busy. Probably the nicest hotel in Bristol (Ive tried quite a few).
