Back again
I returned to the Pentire twice this year and have seen on going improvements in the hotel which are fantastic. The new sauna is lovely and improvements in rooms are great. We had a lovely break between christmas a new year and we joined guests who had been there over christmas who told us they were having a great time and were in the christmas spirit. The food was as always great and the stay was fantastic value for money. Once again the friendliness of the staff was outstanding. My partner and I were so impressed that we are... more
Great Value
We went to the Pentire with 2 friends at the end of October. The hotel was full all week but we had excellent service. Our rooms were very comfortable and clean. They were cleaned each day and fresh towels left. We all enjoyed the food a lot. The breakfasts were varied and we sampled everything on the menu between us. We were pleased with all the options. The dinners were also very good and we ate very well each evening. We found that the waiting service was excellent too and were served quickly and efficiently. We tried out the pool and the... more
Good hotel for the price
We had a great family holiday at the Pentire Hotel. Though there were a few negatives, for the price we paid and the service we received we were happy. First the positives. This is a very dog friendly hotel. We were allowed to bring our dogs everywhere except the dining room. It meant that we were able to bring the dogs in with us while we watched the entertainment or played snooker- consequently we were not constantly feeling bad about leaving the dogs alone in the room when we had chosen a dog friendly hotel so we could bring them... more
Great time
Just returned from our second stay at the Pentire. Once again we were treated very well. We arrived early after travelling through the night and were offered the opportunity to have breakfast. It was good to see some of the same friendly staff from last year (always a good sign in any hotel). Our room was ready at specified time and spotlessly clean. As previous reviewers have said there is refurbishment going on (another good sign) but we were not inconvenienced. I would like to give a special mention to the "Domestic engineers"...Yvonne... more
Enjoyable
We recently stayed at the Pentire Hotel in Newquay. I have to say we had a most pleasant stay. They are doing renovations on parts of the hotel but it didnt bother us in the least. Our room was clean. We had new carpets on the floor and the walls had been freshly painted. The rest of the hotel was clean and tidy also. The meals were delicious although I could have eaten more. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only downside for some people was the distance into Newquay which was about 4 miles. We enjoyed it because it was quiet... more
Cheap not chic
We have just returned from a 5 day break in Newquay and despite the weather we had a great time. Although the hotel is a little tatty around the corners it was clean and they are undergoing a refurbishment. This is a shame in many ways as we will probably have to pay double once its completed. The food seemed good, although catered more for the elderley visitor as it was quite plain but was included in the price. Because we were out and about most days we rarely ate there in the evening, this also meant that we missed a lot of the... more
Awful experience
Where do I begin? Upon arrival, we had to wait for another guest to finish complaining about the hotel, before we could check-in. Without wanting to make too much of a judgement on this, we patiently waited while listening to this dissatisfied guest being told that her complaint would not be received by the general manager until Monday. She was then wished good luck in finding another hotel. We then proceeded with our own check-in, where we had to settle our bill before we had even got to our room. In my experience, this is... more
Excellent value - But don't expect luxury.
Just returned from a 3 night weekend break at the Pentire. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a strange position but there are wonderful views of the beach from the rooms. Car parking is plentiful, and free. Expect to pay a little more than pub prices for your drinks. The whole place looks as though it needs refurbishing as there are holes in the carpets, tears in the wallpaper etc. The room was comfortable, but very cold (although it was snowing this weekend) and the bathroom, especially needed updating. The food was... more
Retire to The Pentire
We booked a "bargin break", £99 each, half board for 4 nights. It proved to be very good value. The food was good and plentiful with several choices , not gourmet but wholesome. The room was clean, fairly spacious with plenty of storage. the fabric and furnishings were a bit worn but acceptable. The bathroom needs updating. Refurbishing the hotel is in progress but it wasn't disruptive. The staff were all young, friendly and efficient. The lift is a bit of an experience! We had a sea view over Fistral Bay and... more
Stuck or escaping from Time Warp?
To start with the positive the staff are friendly and helpful, the indoor pool is excellent, the food is good and renovations are under way that may, eventually, address the problem areas. The first impressions of the hotel are that it is extremely dated and shabby. It seems to be stuck somewhere in the 60's or 70's. It is an old hotel, it hosted an evacuated school during WWII and the bedroom furniture could easily date from that era! Floors on the upper floors are uneven and move as you walk. The noise from adults moving... more
