Terrible food
This hotel is a relic, its got loads of history. The problem with it is the food. If a chef cant cook gammon & egg properly then its time to be a school dinner lady! The staff are ok, some very friendly and the others Polish and struggle with the lingo. I stayed here loads when on business, but I always eat out. Try 5 degrees west (approx 10 min walk from the hotel)
Do not waste your money here
We completely agree with the reviews written by Heflin666, Acripedes and Wipeout75. We were a party of seven having booked to celebrate our fathers 65th birthday. We had booked two rooms and a suite for three nights. By the second night it had just turned into an ordeal. We felt very disappointed because it was supposed to be a special occasion, and also because we had stayed here two years ago without any problems. We weren't the only people that weekend asking to speak to the manager. To cut a long story short, when we... more
Great Hotel. Awful Food.
Stayed at hotel in early September. The Approach to the hotel and its' grounds are very impressive with lovely gardens. The hotel is situated on the sea front and offer great views. It is also handy for the town of Falmouth as it is only 5 minutes walk. The reception staff are very effiicient and the public rooms are very clean and comfortable. The bedrooms are also of a good quality and size. What lets the hotel down though is the restaurant which serves some of the worst food I have ever tasted in a hotel. The brochure suggests gourmet... more
Most enjoyable stay
Second visit to the hotel over the last few years and enjoyed this stay much more. Great balcony room overlooking the sea - very clean and comfortable. All the staff without exception were welcoming and keen to please you. Good dining and bar facilities. Leisure changing room could be updated a bit. Good location for both the beach and the town.
Shabby with character and great seaviews
We just spent 4 nights at the Falmouth Hotel and had a nice time - helped by some rare sunshine in this dull grey British summer we're having. The hotel is looking a little jaded these days although it is easy to imagine it was a fabulous place in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Right now it could do with a major refurbishment. The stair carpet was threadbare on some edges and held together with gaffer tape in several sections. It also had treads made for when people had size 3 of less feet I think! I'm size 5 (UK, 7 in US, 37 Eur) and... more
Good B&B / Rubbish Hotel
The first thing to say is to throw away the brochure they probably sent you. It looks fab in the brochure doesn’t it? All pristine and white with gourmet style food and wonderful grounds etc. The grounds are lovely - the food it mediocre at very best and the whole place needs a complete refurb. The stair well was literally falling apart (photo) and whilst it may be in the process of being refurbished – it looked to have been in the same decrepit state for some time. How they can charge such utterly ludicrous room rates I do... more
overall good stay but
Booked one of the self catering cottages which are in the grounds of the hotel. Good break on the whole. However the main problem I found was that the overall condition of the kitchen area and cooking facilites was poor. Old and scratched pans , old looking crockery (but not damged) and cheap looking utensils. Tired kitchen overall. Some staining of carpets throughout and bedroom furniture again tired. Wouldnt cost much to update the kitchen area and replace old cooking equipment this would really make a difference.<br... more
Shame about the catering
A large, older hotel in a good location a short walk from the town centre. The hotel’s good points were its position overlooking the beach and the views from the bar, restaurant and sea-facing rooms. Although our room, one of their top grade, was slightly old-fashioned, it was very large, comfortable, well-equipped, and very well looked after by the housekeeping staff. The public areas were clean and well-presented, but elsewhere the impression was one of shabbiness. The staircase was particularly bad, with narrow treads and a carpet... more
An amazing find
I stayed in this hotel with my now husband for the August bank holiday weekend, what a true delight it was. Each night we fell asleep to the sound of the waves on the shore, we had a lovely large room (almost a suite) and we found it extremely comfortable. The hotels food was second to none, a good range of dishes and all food was cooked fresh and piping hot. In some areas the hotel looked a bit tired - possibly due for a makeover, but really it just added to the ambience of the victorian building. We got the train down to Falmouth - the... more
The once grand Falmouth Hotel.
I like the Falmouth Hotel. I've stayed there twice in the past couple of years and I've enjoyed my stay on both occasions. The hotel is "fairly" good and has a touch of class. It reminds me of what it was probably like to travel and hotel in Cornwall in Poirot's day. Clearly 100 years ago, it would have been the local grand hotel. Most British towns had them. Our room was largish (executive suite), with a four poster bed, but rather in need of a make-over. In our room, for example, the bathroom/toilet door would not shut. From... more
