past glory
Looking at the other reviews it would seem we are out of step with the majority of guests, and certainly all the other people staying at the time seemed perfectly happy, some even raving about the place. However, our experience was that of a place which had seen better days. Our room, the second we were shown, was cold and we thought the ancient heating system wasnt up to the job, except that on the morning we were leaving it went into overdrive and finally heated the room. The furnishings are very dated and old country house style, but... more
Sophisticated, elegant, classy, peaceful, sublime
This is an incredibly impressive hotel, both inside and out, set in beautiful grounds on the edge of Bibury, a ridiculously picturesque village in the Cotswolds. Scrunching up on the gravel drive in front of the house, we had great fun parking our knackered old VW Golf in between a Ferrari and an Aston Martin, before wandering in through the old front hall to reception. The hotel is very smoothly run with the minimum of fuss by Rob and an old school friend of his, who took over from his parents a year or so ago. The staff managed that... more
What a delightful place.
What an amazing stay. We were greeted with great warmth. The Hotel feels more like you are the guest of a large country house. The whole place seems to be the epitome of the Cotswolds. The grounds are delightful with some lovely trout fishing in the Coln and the terraced seating area is a wonderful evening sun trap. The rooms are beautifully clean and very well proportioned. Everything felt so relaxed and comfortable. Just like the cliché "home from home". We ate exquisitely. The local venison being a real treat. The... more
Posh not plush
Old-fashioned charm in spades and peaceful relaxation is the order of the day here. Bibury Court is the perfect balance of old and new. Granted, the rooms are not stuffed with plasma screens and dvd players, but are all the better for the fact. Our corner room overlooked the church and some outbuildings and was very comfortable. Food is excellent and locally sourced (breakfast was great) and the bar area is friendly, with Scrabble on hand as well as comfy chairs and lots of magazines (Scrabble is always a plus!) The grounds... more
a great weekend
My husband took me away for a weekend so i could relax. We stayed for two nights at Bibury Court and it was magnificent it was like a different world so quiet and chilled the setting was great the staff were easy to talk and told us where to vist the food was nice. I would stay there again any time.
Such a shame
What a gorgeous building and what shabby decor, disappointing rooms and disappointing service. The hotel has great potential but don't bother staying there. It is tatty, dark our bathroom seemed dirty. I wouldn't go back
Very Pleasant Stay
I took my girlfriend out of London for the weekend and was told to go to Bibury Court by a colleague who had by chance stumbled upon the place when proposing to his girlfriend the year before. It said that it is a great place to spend a relaxing and chilled weekend. When we arrive I was dumb struck by the beauty of the place, indeed the girlfriend was as well. There is nothing staggering inside about the decor just a very friendly and rural atmosphere. The bar was packed with a good hearty crowd and there were lovely open fireplaces... more
Lovely Cotswolds setting
We stayed in this lovely hotel for one night, with our 18 month old. They were very accommodating, had a high chair available at dinner and breakfast, and provided a room large enough to fit our travel cot. We had no worries about staying at this hotel with our toddler. The hotel is a converted estate, so the floors are a little uneven, there are no lifts, and it shows some age, but it is otherwise very satisfactory. We found the dinner delicious, and the continental breakfast was adequate. My husband had the full breakfast,... more
Shabby former ellegence
We stopped for lunch in this superbly located Cotwold hotel. The new chef produced both starter and main course which were excellent and among the best we have tasted in the area. The puddings were poor and not of the same standard, obviously a different chef. We did not stay in a room so I cannot comment on these but the standard of public areas and lavatories was poor. One expects faded ellegence in a country house hotel but this was just shabby. What really spoiled the lunch was the loud owner discussing his business plans so... more
Quite English Country Hotel
I spent three nights at the Bibury Court Hotel during the week while on a business trip. The building and grounds are elegant and well maintained. My room (19) was extremely quiet facing the church and the graveyard literally in the back yard. The room was well appointed, good water pressure, soft towels, and four windows for lots of sunlight. The service was a bit slow and had more of a homey bed and breakfast feel than a hotel. Perhaps that's the way they do things out in the country. This was my first trip to England so it's... more
