Great location, great food, great room, great service
from YKNBS
The Hartnoll Hotel is in a great location just north of Tiverton and just south of Exmoor National Park making it ideal base to explore the area. The hotel is currently being completely renovated and the results so far have been impressive. The restaurant was very smart and eating in the large conservatory as the sun went down provided a perfect romantic setting to compliment the mouth watering menu. The room was cozy but modern with a large flat screen TV, (that seemed wasted on the poor TV reception unfortunately) a very...

Friendly atmosphere, relaxing location, a beautiful garden.

I was surprised to find a Boutique Hotel in this part of Devon, whilst on a family trip to visit the North Coast. I was however disappointed to find there were renovations going on, but it didn't affect our stay too much, it was being carried out at the other end of the hotel. Our newly decorated room was beautiful. The bed and bed linen was very good quality, in fact I have since upgraded my own bed to a 6ft one like the one we stayed in, extra space for the kids made our morning even nicer! We had a fantastic breakfast in...

So surprised - Not at all what i expected, really superb
from Connie1Somerset
I had to book accomodation in Tiverton as i was attending a friends wedding,as a frequent user of trip advisor i checked all hotels in the area... My first choice was fully booked out so we ended up at the Hartnoll hotel, and having read the last review i was not sure what to expect. They could not have been kinder. Breakfast was excellent , plenty of choice. Our room was one of the refurbished ones, it was truly suberb, and yes there was still renovation work going on, but none the 'building stuff' was in our way, and NO builders on Saturday...

Terrible customer service
from triggerandgem
This hotel has a long way to go before they can call themselves a boutique hotel. The lady owner of the hotel came accross as very abrupt and we were made to feel like we were unwanted guests in her house. The re-furbished rooms were ok but had no drawers or wardrobes to put clothes. There was still re-furbishment work going on while we were there as we found out when our electricity and water was switche doff at 11am. Friends staying in the hotel had to have cold showers and when complained to the owner were spoken to very rudely....

Glad we found this little, convenient Devon Boutique Gem!
from CityFamily
Having spent allot of time searching the internet for somewhere to stay near Knighthayes (National Trust, Bolham) we were recommended by the receptionist to try the Hartnoll Hotel (have never been one for a hotel chain, and that is all that was local). And what a suprise, YES they are in the final throws of renovations, but you can see very easily what an amazing place it will be when completed. The staff 'bent over backwards' to ensure our stay was fantastic. We stayed in the BRAND NEW mini suite, with our 5 year old in a z'bed, and it...

Poor
from lorca
The first room I was offered was a single room with a bath. And a I mean a bath. No shower, no shower attachment, so how was I going to wash my hair? It had last been decorated in the 1970's. It was really quite grim. Also, it was over the kitchen so you could hear the fans. I asked to move and was shown a double room. Shabby like the last but quieter, I hoped. No, it wasn't. I was woken from 7am by the fire doors below slamming everytime a member of staff went through them. The bathroom had a shower but no towel rails, they had...

Building work disturbance for meeting
from farmstay
I was one of a group of over 30 Farmstay members who had a meeting here on 13th Npovember. The room and lunch had been booked by one of our committee. We are all in the hospitality business, supplying B&B and self-catering accommodation on farms in the south-west. Apparently no mention had been made at the time of booking that there was any building work being done in the hotel, The builders were working next door to the room we had our conference in, and we were contunually disturbed by the noise, I was not involved in the...

Pleasant staff, but will be nicer once the renovation is finished
from unhealthyman
The hotel is in the middle of being renovated, and what has been done looks smart and modern. There was not too much disruption from these renovations and it looks like they are quite close to finishing so I wouldn't worry too much about that. It is a lovely old building, with a spacious garden and conservatory. I stayed in one of the renovated rooms which had very nice bed with good quality covers and a big plasma screen TV. One complaint was that the water pressure was too low and the shower took ages to heat up - the actual shower...

Loved
from welshnikki
Me and my fiance decided at the last minute to go away so we looked on the net for a nice counrty setting and we found the Hartnoll Hotel, i booked it straight away and we decided to arrive on the Friday and stay 2 nights. When we arrived we where greeted by a really pleasant receptionist called Tabitha who checked us in and showed us to our room, it was stunning with an en-suite and fantastic views. We decided to stay in that night and eat at the hotel. When we came down to the bar we where then greeted by the Manager Nikki who again...

Absolutely shocking!
from Roubaix06
My wife and I booked two nights at the Hartnoll for ourselves, our two daughters and my wife's parents as we were due to attend a wedding in nearby Tiverton. On arrival, we were escorted to our "cottage" accomodation, described by the hotel as "family suite with en-suite facilities". The cottage was simply an outhouse in the middle of the car park. On entering the rooms, it was apparent that the rooms had not been aired for quite some time. Our room was dark and damp smelling. My in-laws room was dark and smelt of stale cigarettes. The...
