Siam Beach Resort

Stayed at the resort for 12 nights in February. It was our first trip to Koh Chang so we were a bit uncertain what to expect having become used to the commercialisation of other beach resorts in Thailand. After researching on the Internet we were attracted to Lonely beach. On arrival we were not disappointed having previously upgraded to a Premium sea view room we found the resort to be just as we had wanted. This place could be nice, but the owner does not make any attention to details and does not clean the garden and the beach. The rooms are clean, but with some terrifics details (toilets in the middle of the room, the lights of the principal road of the island direct on your bed (through a transluscent window). Best rooms are in C and D building ; the others are just terrible) See my pictures, for proof.

We've stayed at the Siam Beach December '06 and now again December '07. Both times we have had a great stay. Since last year they've expanded the resort. There are several types of accommodation available: basic hill-top bungalows; we haven't stayed in these but I suspect they are the standard thai wooden format, great views over Lonely Beach. Deluxe and premium hotel-type rooms right on, and all facing out to, the beach. Also, new mini-villas, each with their own private plunge pool. We stayed in the premium rooms. We stayed in a hillside bungalow which had a good view. The bungalows are somewhat rickety but overall okay for 800 bht (breakfast not included). However the place needs some serious tidying up around the construction which is going on around the track to the bungalows. On the positive side, this place has a nice swimming pool, beach is ok and the staff is friendly and very helpfull.

We stayed in a hillside bungalow which was quiet and had a good view however construction is going on around the track to the bungalows and it's a good idea to have a torch to navigate through the mess at night. The bungalows are rickety and if you are a large person you may be concerned about the strength of the floor / balcony boards. After having stayed on Koh Chang in years past, we were rather concerned about over development on the island. We had previously stayed on Klong Prow and White Sands. After browsing websites etc we decided on Lonely Beach and the Siam Beach Resort. On the way, our taxi passed White Sands and Klong Prow, we hardly recognised it from 2 years previous. My friend and I stayed here in one of their hillside bungalows. There are 3 choices , the new part of the resort, the older beach huts, very basic, and the very cool hillside bungalows. It is a little stroll up the hill, but not far and easy. Our bungalow was clean, very basic, and had a bathroom with a shower. The air- condtioning was a great deal, and big plus after the hot days on the beach. It was like staying in a cabin on stilts. After a disappointing stay on Koh Mak we where relieved and grateful when the Siam agreed that we could arrive one day earlier than planned. We stayed for 4 nights rather than the planned 3 nights. The staff where very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble, particularly the girls on reception. Laundry service was cheap, prompt, and unlike other places we have visited in Thailand, they didn't ruin any clothes - allways a bonus. We where on Ko Chang last year November, and stayed at the Siam Beach Resort the hotel part. When we where there they where almost finished with some small last hand construction work. It was not like the pictures I seen in another travel review, the sand in front of the hotel building is now a garden with stone paved path to the restaurant. I can recommend Ko Chang and Siam Beach Resort to everybody, we had a great holiday. My boyfriend and I stayed here in June of 2006, we spent the month in Thailand, and fell in love with Koh Chang, but not so much Siam Resort. We were backpacking and originally booked to stay in one of their air conditioned hill side bungalows for around 700BHT a night. As far as budget bungalows go it was fine, but the stairs up to it did not feel safe ad once you were in it the floor boards felt like they would give any minute - having said this neither my boyfriend or myself are particularly small people.
