Great Place, If You're A Sheep.
Thank god we had a rented car and could escape this overly large, overly managed mega-resort hotel. Let me first say that my 7 year old adored the enormous swimming pool and that the room, despite terrrible artwork, was very comfortable and luxurious. However, we could have been in any tropical locale anywhere in the world, the entire experience was so controlled and sterile. If you're interested in visiting Mexico for any other reason than to lay in the sun and drink piña coladas than find another hotel or, if you have to go to this... more
Grand is the key word in Grand Mayan
The Grand Mayan resort at Riviera Maya (21 km north of Playa del Carmen) is a huge resort! It has 20 buildings on the Mayan Palace side (probably 48 units per building) and 7 units on the Grand Mayan side (probably 48 units per building). The rooms are similar except that the Grand Mayan rooms are somewhat larger with larger balconies and a "cool tub" on the balcony. The residence buildings are all 3 stories in height. This resort has fully recovered from hurricane Wilma (October 2005) except for (1) a new seafood restaurant is being... more
HUGE - Great Rooms - Rocky Beach
This was our third stay in the Cancun area. Previously we had rented a private vacation home in PlayaCar and stayed at the Hilton in Cancun. The Grand Mayan was a nice resort, but I'm still looking for my favorite in the area. Pros: Nice, large room; modern kitchen; great balcony w/ nice loungers and "cool-off" pool; jacuzzi tub in room; lounge chairs on the beach; palapas on beach; beach food/drink service; guacamole and chips were the BEST ever at the pool-side restaurant. Cons: HUGE resort (a lot of walking); set-up of... more
A wonderful resort...
The Grand Mayan and The Mayan Palace are located on the same property, only difference is the location of the units and the furnishings inside them. The Grand is considered more high end than the the Palace. We stayed at the Grand (March 24-31, 2006)in a two bedroom unit (2 bathrooms each with an oversized whirlpool tub and separate large shower, double sinks in each bathroom too). The balcony was very large, with a dipping pool, loungers and chairs and tables. The living room and kitchen area was nicely furnished and was kept tidy each... more
One of our best holidays!
We stayed in a two bedroom unit at the Grand Mayan from March 1017 and were very impressed. Our first impression of the room was fantastic, with high end finishes and appliances, modern and tasteful furnishings, and it was very clean. We ate at all the restaurants and used almost all the facilities. All were excellent, especially our favourite, the fitness centre and spa. The pool is enormous, with two poolbars which had a happy hour 11-1pm. The beach was rocky but ok if you wore water shoes. I went on the snorkelling and scuba... more
Loved the resort however need to know a few warnings
The Grand Mayan Rsorts are located between Cancun and Playa Del Carman. The resort itself was beautiful with lots of greenery and a beautiful pool. However, a few warnings to those staying in the area. 1. RENT A CAR. There is not much to do at the resort with only 3 places to eat that are VERY EXPENSIVE on the resort itself. A ride into Playa Del Carmen is worth it but can get expensive by taxi every night. If you rent a car, the only place that advertises they are open 24 hours at the Cancun Airport is Hertz Rental Car.... more
secluded and huge
We stayed in a hotel room at the Grand Mayan the first week in March. The room was lovely and furnished very nicely. I would rate it a 5 star room except that it had no coffee maker or minifridge. I requested a coffee maker and a maid brought it to the room. The resort was immaculate and the service was very good. The food was excellent and we enjoyed the varied entertainment. However, for us this resort is too large and it seemed like too many people at the pools, restaurants, etc. The beach restaurant is gone and Tramonto has... more
Quiet and beautiful
My husband and I recently stayed at the Mayan Palace Riveira Maya and enjoyed it very much. We had pre-arranged transportation from the airport thru the resort and it worked out well. We were supposed to have a 2 bedroom unit but there were none available when we arrived. As a result, we settled on a 'studio' in the Grand Mayan (ie: a large hotel room). Since we didn't have the children with us, it worked out okay. Both the room and the bathroom were quite large and very clean with a king sized bed, jacuzzi and a wonderfully... more
Grand Mayan- A Spring Break to Remember
My cousins and I arrived in Cancun, Mexico on March 3,2006 and stayed for seven days. The Grand Mayan itself is BEAUTIFUL...Everything from the lobby to the restrooms. Our hotel room looked just like they pictured on the website. The only problem I had with the room, was the outdoor pool, which was COLD. Nobody used it once. But other than that our room was spacious and comfortable. I wish we invited some more people because we had alot of space. If you are a struggling college student, like myself, its best to order room service... more
Loved the Grand Mayan!
We had a fabulous vacation at the Grand Mayan resort in Riviera Maya which is 1/2 hour south of Cancun and 1/2 hour north of Playa del Carmen. We were there during our February school vacation week February 17-24th.We stayed at the Grand Mayan in Alcapulco last year and were just as pleased with the friendly staff, incredibly clean surroundings, willingness to accomidate for circumstances like arriving prior to check in time, safe parking and despite everyone's warnings about bugs & spraying..we never felt bugs or were aware of any... more
Best Vacation Ever
This was the best vacation I have ever had! First of all, the resort was absolutely beautiful. The grounds had gardens and lakes and palm trees, which made the 5-10 minute walk from your room to the pool area completely enjoyable. Plus, if you didnt feel like walking, there were lots of trams around to drop you off at any area of the resort. They had the largest pool I have ever seen and it was right close to the beach. You cant really go swimming in the ocean there, but that was okay because the pool made up for it. All day long there were... more
