Hotel Berner

We stayed here for a week in July and found it to be very good indeed. The food is not fancy but good solid food with a good choice and there was plenty. I can understand the complaint by a reviewer who ate late on and found it had been stood a while but that's the nature of this type of accommodation. We ate early and found the food to be very nice. My wife and I selected the Berner as the brochure stated that it was a very nice 4-star hotel. Indeed it was a very nice 4-star hotel with a large dining room, very pleasant lounge, comfortable room and very pleasant staff (perhaps overdone!). Our room was at the rear of the hotel and had 2 problems: the room faced south so received full sun in the afternoon /early evening which resulted in hot night-times; as the hotel is built into the hillside our 3rd foor room was at ground levek (nearly) and there was considerable noise at night... more

We agree with almost all of the reviews listed below except for the food. The hotel has a grand feel to it and the rooms and facilities are good. The staff are very helpful. We had a lake view and enjoyed our summer stay and will return one day. Our problem with the food is that it is a buffet and it seems to be cooked only once and is ready for 6pm. We came down to eat at 7pm (advertised meal time from memory, is until 8pm) and found the food had been sitting for an hour. The meat was dry and the vegetables soft and watery. I had the... more

Truly memorable stay. Stayed 4 nights at the Berner and would like to have stayed longer. Staff are very welcoming and attentive. Food was excellent. We stayed half board, we had a junior suite with balcony and lake view and all for 73 Euro per person per night. We thought this represented excellent value for money. Hotel is conveniently located for Zell Am See and walking. The only downside was that not all the lifts were open, they don't start running until mid June onwards. Fantastic hotel. Very attentive staff. Rooms very good. Food excellent. Great base for skiing. Nice and quiet but a short walk into the centre of Zell am See. Would definitely recommend anyone to stay here. There is absoloutely nothing bad with this hotel at all.

Just returned from a week in The Berner Hotel in the charming town of Zell Am See. As it was our first skiing vacation, we were somewhat apprehensive about the whole trip, particularly as we had 3 young hyper-active boys (5, 8 & 9) in tow. Thank you Christopher. We stayed at the Hotel Berner over Christmas 2005 and had a great time. The hotel is in a good location only 50m from one of the main chairlifts and you can ski to the door (not on a snowboard though!). The hotel was lovely the owner's sons run it from day to day and are a great source of information about local bars/ restaurants and slopes. On Christmas day they organised a free sleigh ride to a bar in the countryside and a fella with an accordian serenaded us whilst we drank hot wine! A great location, good food and wonderful hospitality. There is a wonderful outdoor poor and sauna and the rooms are clean and spacious. I stayed at the hotel 3 years running and would thoroughly recommend it.

We traveled with a group of friends to stay three nights over Christmas at Hotel Berner. We were amazed the moment we walked in the door (to be greeted by the two owners (brothers)). The hotel made the Christmas so special for all of us with their preplanned activities of Christmas carols, Christmas dinner and presents, a sleigh ride, etc. They made it feel as if we were at home instead of amongst families from all over the world just together for a ski weekend.
