Grand Hotel des Alpes

My husband and I just returned from a week of skiing in Chamonix and stayed at the Grand Hotel des Alpes. On a 1-10 scale, I would give this hotel a 10. I just read the previous review of a person who apparently stayed at the hotel at the same time. As I read their review, I realized that their experience mirrored mine. We booked 5 days ended up staying for 10 days in february and had a wonderful time there.I wasn't excited at first about staying for so long since I don't ski or do any other winter sports except shopping for a nice pair of boots:-) while my boyfriend is out there fighting the mountain.The hotel soon turned into home for us,fantastic service without being intrusive,excellent facilities,more than 100 dvds at our disposal to take upstairs in the room,free wi-fi throughout the hotel,which for me was a blessing since I stayed most of the time in... more

My husband and I stayed at the hotel in December 2006 for about 5 days. We had an incredible time. The hotel staff is extremely friendly, accomodating and professional - it's run by Italians. The hotel is lovely - well decorated, appointed and clean. The main lobby is charming with a great fireplace and newspapers and DVD's on offer. It is also in a great location. We I stayed in a mountain-view room for 3 nights in the end of September, 2006. The room we stayed was lovely - elegant dark wood furniture, large balcony (it looked bigger than other balconies), and spacious modern bathroom. The hotel logo was embroiled on the white pillow cases, towels and bath gowns. Only small concern I had initially was the view from the windows. Stayed here two nights. We got a room on the back (river) side; much quieter than the front, facing the square. Staff was professional and accomodating. Room was luxurious and beautifully appointed. Would stay here again anytime.

My husband and I stayed here for one night earlier this month and just loved it. When we arrived the receptionist was very friendly, took us up to our room, showed us all the amenities, and pointed out the views from our windows. The walls were a darker color wood but not in a bad way at all. Our room had three windows and there was plenty of light. The bed was extremely comfortable with lovely duvets. we booked a suite overlooking the river. the rooms were quite sober and dark, the couch looked frayed and Very well used. the bedroom had a little tv sitting on the desk - the kind you could pick up at costco for under $150. not that we went there to watch tv, but one of the chairs on our balcony was broken, one of the sinks in our bathroom wouldn't drain, not enough towels, maids never showed up for turndown one night. petite dejuner was a little odd; mars bars and bounty candy bars included in the bakery basket...odd... the porter pounded... more

Our journey to Chamonix started with an atmospheric train ride through the Alps and I was absolutely awed by the beauty of the area. The hotel complimented its surroundings perfectly. Our room overlooked the stream running along the back of the hotel and the balcony had a great view of a snowcapped Mont Blanc. I have just returned from a weekend in Chamonix with some friends. We had some problems with our original hotel and relocated to the Grand Hotel des Alpes. The hotel is in an excellent location, has beautiful decor and is reasonbly priced for it's quiclity/luxury. However, the reason that I have gone out of my way to write a review is that quality of the staff - all of whom were abolsutely charming and helpful. My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hotel des Alpes on a weekend trip to get out of Geneva - and we LOVED it. We had a room on the non-street side, so we could hear the soothing sound of the river and could peek up at Mont Blanc (hiden by clouds) and an amazing waterfall coming from the mountains! It was breathtaking! The staff and service were excellent - the hotel has a charming decor, we loved the wood all around our room, and the duvets were luxurious! They were so big and fluffy!
