Grande Albergo Sole

We were a group of 13 friends, from the US, UK and Central America, and all had a first rate experience at this hotel. The staff was helpful and courteous, the rooms modern and very comfortable (jacuzzi baths !). Despite our somewhat confusing arrival and departure schedule, not one error in booking was made. Nice stylish place in a city short of top drawer hotels. The biggest selling points of the hotel are its staff (always the no 1 thing in my book) and the fantastic rooftoop bar/terrace/restaurant. My group was 36 strong and everyone had a lovely large room which were minimalistic and contemporary but not not the extreme. Minibar was very reasonable for a change aswell !! Good location. Spacious room. Bathroom was clean. Beds are large sized ones which made us happy. The restaurant on the roof was comfortable and scenic, provided us good service with affordable price. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Very spacious room, with a separate "living room" and a "his and hers" sink. Very attentive and helpful staff at the front desk. It even has valet parking. Dinner at the roof top restaurant was amazing! Internet access free but you need to bring your own cable. Breakfast was above average for Italian standards. Overall a great experience.

I organized a trip for 16 and choice Grande Albergo del Sole with the recommendations of TripAdvior.com. I was not disappointed. The location is perfect for Palermo. It is located at the crossroads of the City. Our rooms overlooked the famous Fountain of Shame. Most of the famous sights were accessable by foot, especially the Mercato Ballero'. The greatest selling point of the hotel is it's roof garden. Since the hotel is located a few blocks from the water there was a wonderful breeze at night when our group would assemble for drinks.... more

We were travelling with friends so can vouch for at least 2 of the rooms being great. Our room over looked the fountain, was quite large, and comfortable. The bath was spacious and well appointed. The rooftop bar/lounge/whatever areas were fantastic. Great views of the city. The breakfast was very good and the dinner was good as well. This hotel is so well located that you can shop and dine within footsteps. There are nearby churches and historical sites also within footsteps of the hotel. I could find no room for improvement.

Superb location, lovely view over the street from one of our two rooms. Not terribly cheap on a walk-in basis but no doubt you can get better deals by booking. Helpful staff. Only real downside: the WORST coffee I have ever had in Italy!

Short walk to just about everything. We had a fantastically large suite there in great shape with a view of the air shaft and not one thing hanging on the walls. There was a note in the room that said they were working on refurbishing, I guess that would account for the lack of decor. Wonderful original art in the lobby though. The desk staff was helpful with good English but surprisingly cold, probably a Palermo thing.

Grand Albergo Sole is wonderfully situated on Corso Emmanuele I, at the heart of downtown Palermo. There are lovely restaurants and millions of shoeshops just moments away. Inside, the atrium is beautiful with yellow leather sofas that are literally to die for. After that, the hotel was being refurbished and it showed. The room was small but comforatble though air conditioning not completely effective. The hallways were suffocatingly stuffy. Breakfast was ok. Staff courteous. Overall, good value at 82 euro and the best is yet to come.

I stayed at the Hotel Grand Sole a few years ago and I was very impressed. It was definitely the best hotel we visited in Italy. The rooms were very large and had all of the comforts Americans are accustomed to. The concierge, Mario, was excellent. He was so helpful to us. I don't know what we would have done without him. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Palermo.
