Hotel Rex

We were given a huge room at the Rex, which was a delight after experiencing the tiny tiny romes in Rome. We thought the service was quite good. The breakfast was okay, but they do bring it into your room, which is quite lovely to be woken by a knock at the door bringing pastries. They do need to figure out how to keep the coffee hot though! Although our room was pretty small it was comfortable and clean. The breakfast delivered to the room was on time and very tasty. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the location down in Santa Lucia was great. It was away from the worst of the traffic polution and was near the ferry terminal for our onward trip to Sorrento.

We spent one night in this hotel in April 2006 after being bounced out of a reservation in the far more user-friendly sister hotel, Correra 241. Hotel Rex is full of pretension (staff all in uniform, stuffy public furnishings in an effort to keep up with nearby classier establishments) but when it came to essentials such as breakfast it failed lamentably. This hotel claims to be a 3 star property, however I found it to be more in the line of a 2 star. Our room was not clean as there were garments from the previous guest still in the room! The door to our room was cracked and therefore could have easily been broken into. The staff of the hotel are there to give you your key and take your money, that's about all they were good for. If I were you I'd skip Naples all together. There are many other places in Italy to see.

An unusal, charming and interesting hotel near the scenic Naples waterfront, located near a few luxury properties. Many rooms have balconies which offer full/partial views of the harbor. Rooms are clean, but a little cramped. Breakfast is included and delivered to your room each morning, but the menu is limited. The hotel is in an excellent location and is good value for money, however, like most of Naples, it certainly isn't quiet. One night I was there the music from a local bar was so loud that I didn't get to sleep until it had stopped which was late into the night. Moreover, the well-established Italian practice of collecting refuge in the early hours of the morning does not makes for a restful night's sleep.

We stayed at this hotel for one night so we could get to the Naples airport easily the next day. We really hadn't anticipated the fantastic location and beautiful scenery of Naples bay one block away! Just be aware that rooms are loud--you will hear cars honking, people slamming doors (on the street, not in the hotel), and general city noise from your room. A little bit late posting this review as I stayed here in September 2004! Only a short walk (10 mins) from the town centre and right next to the marina, with lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Staff helpful and friendly, room was quirky in terms of its layout but was clean, tidy, modern - very pleasant; and from the balcony we had a fantastic view of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius - not something we had specifically requested but very nice (there was no extra charge for this - maybe we were just lucky!). I stayed here in April 2002. The hotel's prime attraction is its location. It is a block from the waterfront and near the Castle (can't remember the name of the district), and it is directly behind the most expensive luxury hotels in Naples. However, the room was small and very cheaply furnished. Breakfast was poor and brought to your room, as there is no breakfast room. The hotel was good for the price. It was located on a busy street, so if you have trouble sleeping you may want to consider another location. In general the hotel is located in a central area with many resturants within walking distance. It is a 3* hotel with the quality to match.
