Emporio Ixtapa

I just returned from a "girls" vacation at the Riviera (now Emporio) in Ixtapa. The hotel is clean and in the perfect location convenient to everthing, and the beach is fabulous. However, the service was AWFUL. We had to constantly search for waiters, both while at the pool and on the beach, and basically had to fetch our own drinks from the pool bar each day. They spoke very little English (we tried our best with Spanish), but they were not very helpful and just looked at us with blank expressions. Our room wasn't ready upon check-in, and... more

Bored? i don't think your at the right place. if your bored, go to acapulco. for us, we love the riviera and the relaxed atmosphere.

I really liked my stay of a couple of days there. The service was just fine and the food delicious. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to go to Ixtapa. It's near the Senior Frog if you want to go out. The pool is great, clean, the beach is great. The room were always really clean, a perfect stay. Thank to TripAdvisor!

My wife and I (55, 61) found Ixtapa years ago and have made several trips always during the high season and always using an Apple Vacations charter package out of Chicago, IL. We've stayed at the Barcelo, Krystal, Omni (Radisson), Dorado Pacifico and Riviera Beach allat least once. We almost stayed at the Fontan, but got the H--- out of there before even unpacking. Overall the Riviera Beach facilities, the employees and the costs are the BEST in Ixtapa. The rooms could be a little larger, but they are clean, clean, clean.... more

I have been to Ixtapa 5 times and am going back in March with my husband. We will be staying at the Riviera. This is the best hotel. Clean, great breakfast and staff. I would not recommend anyone bringing teenagers to Ixtapa, this is a couples resort. I have stayed at the Doubletree (Omni) and the Continental, but never again. What do people want when they go to Mexico? It sure as hell beats the crap out of Canada and the US. You're in Mexico, enjoy! Relax.

We go to Ixtapa every year, and always stay at the Riviera hotel. Our family will stay nowhere else. The staff is fabulous, and always keeps us entertained with games and advising us what activities are available to us (that is quite a job!!). I cannot imagine anyone thinking there is nothing to do, there is always something going on. If this hotel can keep us all entertained, they can handle anyone!! Just returned from a 5 day stay in Ixtapa at the Riviera the first week of June. This is our 5th Mexico vacation and 2nd trip to Ixtapa so we pretty much know what to expect. We have stayed at a wide variety of places from 3 - 6 star hotels over the years. We had stayed at the Qualton Club many years ago and loved it even though it offered very basic rooms. Just returned from 5 nights at the Riviera and we had a great stay. It was practically empty, which made for a nice, relaxing vacation! The Riviera is in a great location, close to all things in the center of Ixtapa town, and everyone was friendly, rooms were clean, and were kept clean. I would reccomend paying the $70 upgrade to an ocean view room, it seems to make all the difference, and it's beautiful to watch the crazy lightening storms that sometimes happen at night! Not sure where the rest of you stayed but our visit to the Riviera was the absolute worst. This is my 5th trip to Mexico and would not recommend this place. Ixtapa beautiful as always. The hotel booked us in a room overlooking the parking lot - no sleep there with Senor Frog's music going all night long. They would not move us to another room unless we forked out more money blaming our travel agent for this awful room. The travel agent did not book this room. Just returned from March 6-13, 2004. Upon arriving, you don't need to pay the bellman to find, and bring luggage to your room. The rooms are very easy to find on your own.The hotel is nice and clean, but the beds are hard, and the AC doesn't work very well (in any of the 4 rooms we had). Oceanview costs $140 more for the week, and is probably worth it, what a great view! For no extra charge, I would ask for a corner room above the 3rd or 4th floor. My husband and I were there Feb 27-March 5 and we did not want to go home. We had the best time hanging with great people we meet. All you crazy Americans love yah and Jeff from Montreal I will be emailing you soon a pleasure drinking with all of you at the pool bar. Ciro the pool bar guy gives great service. All the staff treat you very good, clean rooms. Lobster yummy highly recommend it. Gained 5lbs worth it. They have a nice pool, kids pools, wonderfull singers in the lobby at night.
