A very special place
from BusterWirral
The pretty Hotel Nefeli is a very special place, situated high up in the traffic-free town of Hydra, well away from the bustling port. Alex and Brett, who run the hotel, are great hosts. Alex met us at the ferry and sent our luggage up by mule (the only form of transport) and accompanied us up to the hotel. There are lots of outdoor terraces overlooking bougainvillea across the lane and the views from the top level across the town to the sea are amazing. At breakfast we especially enjoyed the (very) freshly squeezed orange juice. We planned...

Paradise Found

We have just returned from the best holiday we have ever had spent in the marvellous Hotel Nefeli on Hydra. We had originally booked to stay 1 week at Hotel Nefeli in Hydra and 1 week in Spetses, however we returned to the Hotel Nefeli after 1 night in Spetses as ANYWHERE was a complete anticlimax after our fantastic experience in this friendly and intimate hotel on beautiful Hydra. The tranquil setting of the hotel made for a very relaxing stay and the hotel was efficiently run by the owners Alex and Brett - nothing was too much trouble...

Fantastic Little Treasure
from phoebe_ferens
Arrived at port of Hydra on a busy Friday. Hotel rep met me with a mule to take my luggage. Walk up was OK, nothing too tiring and worth it when you get there. Room very clean, had everything I needed including lovely little shampoos and soaps in the bathroom which i have not had on the other islands throughout my trip. Hydra was my 4th stop of the Greek Islands (Ios, Santorini,Mykonos). Hydra is the classy with the hotel providing great value for money. Was a very well thought out breakfast, lots of offer, all fresh. No bacon and eggs but...

calm but TIRING!!!
from tayra28
advantages: -very nice view -very quiet -clean and nice decorated disadvantages: -poor buffet -expensive (80 euros per night!!) -not well organized (coffee machine broke and there was not any second one, we waited an hour for the plumper to finish his job in the bathroom althought they could do it in the morning till 5 when we arrived) -15' walk climbing up the rocky stairs!
Greece at its best
from SheilaAnneC
This was our fourth time on Hydra but first time at the hotel Nefeli which had recently come under new management. It's a 10 minute walk up hill from the ferry but the owners met us and organised for a "taxi" ie mule to carry our suitcases up to the hotel. In the past we had stayed nearer the harbour which is more convenient for the lively cafes and bars but the downside of this is that it can be noisy. The benefits of being higher up the town in the Nefeli were the quietness (apart from the occasional donkey braying), the views over the...

Great Escape from Athens
from Enjaya
Just stayed at the Nefeli on Hydra. Was in Athens on business and had a spare couple of days, got a ferry out from Pireaus and ended up on Hydra. Folllowed these yellow signs up the hill and found this small great hotel with incredible views. Hotel just had one spare room lucky for us. as there was some big wedding on the island. Room was good size, all new furnishings and had aircon which is a must if you come to Greece at this time, it was over 35C ! There is a beach nearby called Kamini took about 5 minutes to walk to. Next day we went...

Heaven on Earth
from Patz02
We have just returned from Europe and the highlight is most definitely our stay at the Hotel Nefeli. We stayed there many years ago and loved the hotel and Hydra - a magical island made all the more appealing because of the absence of cars. We were delighted to find the island as beautiful as we remembered and the hotel was even better than our first stay. The new owners have given it a makeover with tasteful new decor, air conditioning and even fridges in the rooms. It was the personal service that really won us over. Alex and Brett were...

FANTASTIC STAY
from JamesNLondon
I dont usually write reviews, but I was so pleasantly surprised with the Nefeli that I felt I had to. The new owners an Australian/Greek couple have just reopened the place and I was one of the first guests. The rooms are great and have all mod cons but are very traditional. The views are amazing and the garden is to nice. Its ten minutes down to the harbour and about 15 minutes back up, so if you have a good night out you can usually work it off by the time you get to bed. But the walk is worth it and they didnt mind that we wanted breakfst...

Not recomended
from Giannis5
I arrived at Nefeli hotel at June 7th 2008 & left at June 9th 2008. I was in room 14. So i will state in as few wards as possible my experience. 1) The owner stated that the hotel is just a few minutes from the port & just a few stares to climb up. The truth is that i counted 352 steps (some small some big, but yes, from the port till up the hotel there are 352 stairs) My gps shown an altitude of 91,2 meters (from the balcony of my room) 2) The bathroom: Well, i couldn't shower properly as there was a leek & the most water (& it's...

Management response from TOURISTS2008
I was very upset to read that we had an unhappy guest, especially as nothing was mentioned during the persons stay nor at check-out. As clearly published on our website and explained to all who book with us, we are a 15 minute walk up hill from the harbour of Hydra, mules are available for luggage and guests if required. The number of steps depends on whether you want come straight up or go round the town a bit. Most of guests choose to stay with us because they want to experience the tranquil side of Hydra and the amazing views. Otherwise they can stay in the busy harbour area right by all the bars and cafes. All windows have curtains and shutters to block out the sun. There are two small glazed windows in the traditional style front doors, however after reading this complaint we are now installing curtains on these too and hope that farmers & land owners that come to stay approve. If the large breakfast buffet was not sufficient choice we would have provided more on request. The hotel has only just been completely renovated and all bathrooms have new shower fittings and work as intended. Yes, we do ask guests not to waste water as this is a precious commodity on the island. Hydra is a hilly place of no cars, this historical town is a unique living museum . Thats why most people come here. Normally our guests are well aware of this, it would seem that some people from nearby Athens are not.
A nice place with great view but for fit people
from jickThibet
spend weekend Sept 15th to 17th in Hydra island, Greece. I choose to stay in Nefeli hotel. In pictures on internet seemed great so why not. The only point was that the distance from the port was 10min on foot. When I arrived on island I realized that the distance might be 10min but it was a long up going with hundrends of stairs route. The hotel is nice, and especially rooms 14 and 15 have great view to port but the effort to reach the place is too much. Choosing Nefeli is like choosing the ultimate silent place for spending the night but,...
