Canasta is a lovely, intimate hotel
My husband and I stayed at Canasta for 5 nights in May of 2005. It is immaculate, and the staff is beyond friendly. Piero, the owner, was a delight. He personally made dinner reservations for us each night, and every restautant was fabulous. Do not believe any negative comments about this hotel. It is quaint, clean, well located, and the staff is superb. We have such fond memories of Canasta, it's staff, and especially, Piero, that we could never imagine staying anywhere else on the island.
Can't wait to get back
Spent three nights of our honeymoon at the Canasta and it was fantastic. Clean and spacious with beautiful tile floors and a small private patio where we had an intimate dinner one evening with food from a local market. The staff was helpful with providing the place settings for us. This hotel was a steal considering the atmosphere, convenient location and quality of service. If you must have an ocean view they do have a limited number of rooms available. We did not have a view, but found the walk to the cliffs quite enjoyable. We... more
Beware!!! All the good reviews are false!!!
Some few words to let you know how this small hotel, no more than a MOTEL, cheat people. Ralph and I stayed in this hotel for 5 days. We had booked a sea-view room but we were given a room with no view. Indeed, only 3 rooms of this hotel have sea-view, even if the sea is 10 miles far from the hotel!! But what made me very angry was the request of a picture of ours to put into the guest book. Moreover, they asked me for a review on Trip Advisor, promising me a room for free for 2006. THEY ASKED ME TO WRITE THE FALSE,... more

Dear Madam, I did not remember any of our guests who complain about different accomodation as we have confirmed. Of course we have some rooms "sea view" 5, some rooms "garden view" 6 and some rooms with "no view" 6. This become with a different rate in our price list. Standard rooms "no view" quoted Euros 140,00. Medium rooms "garden view" quoted Euros 170,00. Superior rooms "sea view" quoted Euros 200,00. Honestly when we make an offer we "clearly" specify "no view" - "garden view" - "sea view". This was also for Your reservation: certainly we have given to You the room offered. Not possible that we have ask Euros 200,00 and have give standard room. The island is only 2 miles large and 4 miles long and so in each point You are the sea can not be at 10 miles distant. The taxi ride is Euros 12,00 from the "Piazzetta" to the harbour, Euros 12,00 from the "Piazzetta" to the marina Piccola beaches: "the hotel is at only 5 minutes walk from the "Piazzetta". You will never pay Euros 50,00 even if You go in the same time to the harbour and to Marina Piccola and back. Cosider that the 90% of the hotels are where we are at the same distance to the sea or more, and only the 10% are close then us to the sea. We ask Your pictures to put in our guests book?: sorry but we have no guests book. We ask You for a good review to put in Tripadvisor in change of a free room in 2006? That means that all good review that we have had is because of free rooms in 2006? It will be very expencive for us. There are no pictures in our web site which show the hotel on the beach, we have also a map with the clear location of the hotel. Your rating for the Canasta about rooms, services, value, cleanliness, dining, activie ect. are all "terrible". Is really the hotel so terrible? Noting good here?. Pietro D'Emilio, owner.

A little piece of heaven
If you are looking for a hotel with all the bells and whistles, don't stay at the Hotel Canasta. BUT, if you enjoy a more intimate setting, with a personal touch, this is the place for you. Our room in the hotel was lovely, spotless and very comfortable. The balcony, as large as the room itself, looked out over the sea. Comfortable lounge chairs and a covered porch with table and chairs gave us several options for lazing about. Piero could not have been a more gracious host, and his staff is top notch. We were made to feel... more
Great choice in Capri
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Canasta. It was comfortable, charming, and well-located. The down-side is that it does not have a pool. As it happened, the days we were in Capri in September were cooler than usual, so the lack of a pool was not that important, but it definitely would have been a problem had it been warmer. The location, though, was so good--not in the center of town, but 3 minutes away, that we would definitely recommend it.
A Personal Touch
I have just returned home after a month touring Italy. During this time I have had a great insight into the quality of accommodation on offer and feel that I can give an honest opinion on the Hotel La Canasta. A friend and I stayed at the hotel from the 10th to the 17th of Sept 2005. We knew nothing of it other than the pictures on the website and booked it mainly based on price and the fact that Peter was very prompt in his reply to our initial enquiry. Although our room did not have a view, this was a minor matter considering it was... more
little haven
We just returned from our trip in this region. We loved the hotel Canasta. If you want the bustle walk 2 minutes to the center with all the shops and cafés, if you want the quiet stay at the hotel. The rooms are spacious, spotless clean and the towels are changed twice a day. Breakfast is served outside on a terrace; you have the choice of 4 or 5 different fruitjuices of very good quality, yoghurt, cereals, fresh fruit, etc.... The stuff is very friendly and helpful. We fully recommend this hotel and would return to it again
Expensive motel
I would like to have my say about Hotel “Canasta”. We stayed there for 4 nights in mid-July. In my opinion, this hotel is nothing but a MOTEL! No sea-view (the hotel is extremely far from the seaside). We had no chance to speak to the owner, he was also the night concierge and, but we have never seen him awake: always sleeping on the sofa!!!! Breakfast was very poor. Just some coffee and some croissants…nothing else!! I a word, the hotel Canasta is terribly overrated. A room in such a hotel shouldn’t cost... more

Dear Sir/Madam, are You sure that You have been in my house? - some of our rooms has sea view and some not "absolutely normal" - the hotel is located at only 5 minutes walk from the famous "Piazzetta" and at only 20 minutes walk from the beautiful beach of Faraglioni "extremely far??" - I spend about 10 hours a day, every day, here and so is very easy to speak with me - Giovanni, (not me!) the nice man who take care of the hotel during the night, is very professional and will never sleep on the sofa since the last guest come in to the hotel - our buffet breakfast include: minimum 5 different type of fresh fruits, 4 different fruit juices, 4 type of cereals, fresh cheese, cream cheese, ham, salami, 3 different type of breads, sweets, butter, 7 different type of jams, 6 different type of yogurts, and of course coffe, thea, chcolate, cappuccino with no limitation "breakfast was very poor........" - "overrated" no comments Piero D'Emilio (owner)..........and You?

Excellent Hotel
Our experience echoes the two most recent reviews in that we absolutely loved Hotel Canasta and would recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful hotel in an excellent location with a staff that can't be beat. Like others we felt like we were a part of the Hotel Canasta family. Peter was the perfect host for our first visit to the island and recommended some excellent restaurants, including Da Giorgio (make a reservation for a window seat) and Le Grottelle (if you know you will be on the island during a full moon, ask Peter well... more
Outstanding Hotel
This hotel is wonderful. I cannot understand any of the negative reviews either. The staff was extremely helpful. Fabio was wonderful and Ernesto made the best cappuchino on the Island. Our beds were made twice daily. The rooms were actually pretty large for Europe and we had an awesome balcony. This hotel really made you feel at home. Breakfast was wonderful and plentiful. Piero's golden retriever Isotta was a welcome sight and made us not miss our own dogs too much. Our friends stayed at the Hotel Luna (very nice), but to us the... more
