Xenones Filotera

We stumbled upon Filotera at a travel agency located in the ferry port. We were skeptical, but desperate as the island was full of honeymooners and many top spots were sold out. We were pleasantly surprised. Very helpful staff, the best view of the caldera/sunset on the island. Nice clean air conditioned rooms. Nice mix of Americans and other nationalities. Great breakfast delivered to your room right on time and with a friendly smile. The manager even drove us in his personal car to the port to catch our ferry when no taxis were available.... more

Just got back from Xenones Filotera, where my girlfriend and I spent a week relaxing in the Sun. The Hotel has wonderful views across the caldera, the staff are fantastic and the breakfast (included in the price) is really nice to. In short a very nice place to unwind. Fotis the manager is cool and will help out wit anything you need. As for the area- it is quieter than the south of the island, although you can reach it by car in 30 mins. Even though there are some amazing hotels, at higher prices, in Santorini, I found this one to be really nice and quaint. The rooms are pretty sparse, but they are large and have a nice patio where breakfast is served for you each morning. The rooms were very clean and a robe and slippers are waiting upon your arrival. The best part of the place is the pool, the view and it was quiet. The jacuzzi was turned off because it uses to much water. The rooms were clean but sparse, but our bathroom light kept burning out every other day. We were told it was 2 km from Fira and 5 km from Oia before booking - try 5-7km uphill to Fira (unwalkable at night because there are no lights for the path) and 12km to Oia, so you will have to rent a car, motorbike or pay 5-10 euros each way for a taxi. We stayed at Xenones Filotera for five days in August. Overall, we had an excellent stay, but there were a few aspects that could be improved upon. The good: The suite we were given was wonderful. It had a living room with a table, chairs, and a pull-out couch (which is convenient, but might not be very comfortable--we did not need to use it), a kitchenette with some silverware, a sink, a hot plate and a small refridgerator, a very clean bathroom, a bedroom, and a small patio with a table and chairs. If you are looking to stay in Santorini, look no further. Xenones Filotera has got the caldera view that Santorini is famous for, a spacious set up of the rooms, pool and terras and a great staff. Fotis, the hotel manager, is a great, personable guy who is always ready to serve his guests. The breakfast that the hotel offers is a great extra service, with a great variety and served at your convenience, at no extra cost (and you can order as much as you would like!). My husbant and myself stayed at Xenones Filotera for a week during August 2003. We had heard so many lovely words about the island of Santorini and our hopes were fullfiled, we had a lovely time, one of the most romantic holidays in my life. I believe that our stay in Filotera also helped create more lovely memories. We really enjoyed our staing @ Xenones... the room was quiet, very clean, looking at the Caldera exactly as it was depicted. Which is not a given, exspecially in Greece. Also the service was excellent, and breakfast really nice and served in the terrace. We recommend it!

My wife and I stayed there for celebrating our 10th anniversary. This is an absolutely great hotel, with stunning views of the caldera and very quiet (noise can be a problem in Santorini). Large rooms, excellent service, great breakfast, adequate parking space. Be sure to book a west-facing room. Both thumps up!

We chose Santorini as the site of our destination wedding in June 2004. I thought the hotel was called Filotera Xenones -- maybe it's a translation thing. It was a series of little villas -- ours was like a suite with a kitchenette, living room area, bathroom, and separate master bedroom that was entered after going up three steps.
