Hotel du Vin reviews

Six of us ate in the restaurant yesterday. Although it was OKish, we were quite disappointed to see that they still sell Foie Gras, despite what is know about the way it is quite cruelly produced. It doesn't say much for their food procurement ethics, won't be going back in a hurry, also very overpriced. - Would not recommend.

Should be better for this price
I may be out of touch with UK hotel prices but I expect something pretty good for £145 for a double without breakfast. Instead, my ground floor room was small, dark and disappointing. The bed was large and comfortable but the bathroom had discoloured tile grout and mouldy sealant - just not good enough for this sort of money and the hotel's pretensions to be oh so very special. Other examples of shoddiness was a cheap and nasty phone in the bathroom which fell off the wall when you picked up the receiver, and a mini hi-fi system in the room... more
Definate WOW Factor
Booked into the Hotel du Vin for my daughters graduation day. We were given a small deluxe room. The room itself was quite small with not much storage, o.k. for a weekend but maybe not for a week, but the bed was lovely and the bathroom was amazing, roll top bath, walk in shower and lovely toiletries, two lots of large bottles which they invite you to take with you. Great big white fluffy towels and bathrobes. Service in the bar was quite slow, but it was such a lovely comfortable place to sit, with lovely big leather sofas, that we weren't... more
Everything I expected
The Du Vin usually gets good reviews but it has taken me a long time to stay here as they get very booked up for weekends. Friendly and helpful service, and a warm welcome. Our room was on the courtyard which was pleasant as the weather was warm and we could sit outside or leave the door open. No noise problem, they close the courtyard at 10.30pm. The food was good and they have a great bar. Our room had the waterfall shower and raised bath that others rave about, it all lived up to expectations. Please go there, but not when I'm trying to... more
so peaceful
Great place Arrived early room not ready but offered complimetnary coffee in the bar lounge. Free wifi throughout hotel Fantastic bistro - word of warning book as all the locals seem to use it. External rooms a little noisy but this is BRighton after all. 25 yds from the seafront Only downside is mini bar way over top prices.
Everything we could have wanted
I took my boyfriend here for a birthday treat and i must say after reading some reviews i was a little nervous but i was completely relieved when we arrived. Ship Street is a little oasis of calm in an otherwise crowded city and as soon as we enetered i knew it was going to be lovely. The staff are so friendly and relaxed which is always a good start. The room was really large with a huge comfy bed, massive wardrobes and the most fantastic bathroom with rolltop bath and walk in shower (i had three showers in the 24 hours i was there - just... more
Think this hotel is fabulous
I have stayed at other Hotel du Vin locations, and I was pleased to see that this one kept up with the others. Here are the things you need to know. First one of the other reviewers is right - you have to eat during their timeframe. This is a small hotel so they are not staffed like a monsterous hotel chain, they are staffed as a small boutique hotel. The food is really good. The thing to me that stands out here is of course the wine - which the Hotel du Vin is known for. Just an awesome selection of wines. I find myself... more
Not really good enough I'm afraid
Paid £240 for a 'junior suite' 2 double roll top baths in a decent sized room with a en suite shower room. We checked in at 4pm... all looked hopeful. However.... We had skipped lunch and wanted something to eat.... NO! no food can be ordered to your room outside of the brasserie times. Can we have Ice so at least we can use the mini bar? - 'no prolem just pop down to the bar to get some???' come on... so thats no room service at all then! We ate out and came back to the bar in the evening -lets say that service was not... more
Champagne, Cigars and a Beautiful Bathroom!
What more does a girl need?! I feel impelled to post a review recommending this hotel in Brighton; I had a wonderful romantic stay here over Easter. Everything was excellent: staff service, restaurant, rooms etc. As a Londoner who visits Brighton often, this place really is a gem. Its in a great central location but feels quite secluded and calm once you enter. The Bar/gallery is a great space; imposing and inviting at the same time, with perfect lighting. We met many other guests throughout our stay who... more
Good in parts
The Hotel Du Vin in Brighton is very familar if you have stayed in one of their other hotels. Beds are comfortable and spacious and their bathrooms (especially the showers) have real wow factor. Bistro food and wine list are very good and staff are friendly and helpful. We stayed when i had my leg in plaster and despite phoning ahead and explaining that I was on crutches and found stairs difficult and requesting an accessible room they had booked us into a room on the first floor (no lift) up a flight of stairs that are some of the steepest... more
a wonderful hotel and the food is exceptional
we have just come back from our fourth mini-break (escaping the kids) at hotel du vin in brighton. everything about this hotel suits us. everything is exceptional. friendly smiles at reception every time you walk past, gorgeous bar area which is equally welcoming in the day time as the evening, all the communal areas are decorated as i would like to have my house; characterful, cosy and stylish - leather, dark wood, books, good art and good lighting. the bedrooms have everything you need in them, dvd player, cd player, comfy beds with... more
