Solar Dom Carlos

I have stayed at Solar Dom Carlos numerous times, and the people running the place, the ambience and the surroundings are terrific. I go to Portugal for business, and stay in Cascais when visiting Lisbon, commuting by train into town. I go there for golf, and in twenty minutes have access to all the great golf courses around Cascais, Estoril and Guincho. This Family run B&B turned out to be a great choice. There was a well looked after garden and although it is not luxurious the rooms were very clean and there was no street noise. It is located in the heart of the old part of Cascais within a 5 min walk from public transport, beaches and shopping areas. And the best part was its closeness to the golf courses. All this for about $60.00 US.

Visiting Portugal on a regular basis and having previously stayed at several hotels in the Lisbon area, Solar Dom Carlos is becoming one of my favourite choices. Hello all...recently returned from a vacation to Portugal. My girlfriend and i opted to stay in one of Portugals many posada's and solar's. These are historic site's that have been either converted or renuvated to use as a bed and breakfast. On our trip we stayed at Solar dom carlos. It is a manor house that was originally built apx. 400 years ago. While some of it has been added on over the years quite a bit of it is original. To include a chapel that is very ornate. Nice people, beautiful old and historical palace, big rooms, relaxing garden, good wines, in the old quarter of Cascais... and all of this for excellent prices! Definetly, it is a place to return.

I've visited this former Manor House this year and we loved it. Very well located in the old part of the city of Cascais, close to the center and the beach. The service is good, with simpatie. The rooms are big, and nicely decorated. The breakfast is very good, with a lot of choise, with a beautifull breakfust room. It has a big garden, where you can relax, and read a nice book.

If your idea of a good hotel is a marble bathroom and a mini-bar stocked with champagne, read no further. If, however, you're on a fairly tight budget and looking for something with a bit of character, I can recommend the Solar Dom Carlos. From the faded, musty charm of the 18th century breakfast room, to the well tended garden, you have everything you need for a relaxed stay. I am so glad I didn't take the previs review at face value. If so, I would have missed out on one of the best places I have evr stayed. It's an old Roral Cottage with immaculate gardens out the back. The staff are very friendly and helpful without being in your face. The rooms are large and airy and kept very clean. Breakfast is also good and I really could go on for hours. My husband and I traveled around Europe for six weeks and stayed in mostly budget hotels. This was by far the worst one. There was mold on the ceiling and in the bathroom. The bed was uncomfortable. The shower was very difficult to use and the place smelled of must and mold. The breakfast had bread, which was eatable, but they had open boxes of cereal, that were left open all of the time.
