great location in a great city
Stayed here for three nights and was pleasantly surprised. Only one star and cheap for central Venice but we enjoyed our time here. Very clean, friendly staff and excellent location in a quiet street just a short walk from the Campo San Stefano and around 10-15 minutes from San Marco. No breakfast room but we had our breakfast at the Hotel Art Deco just round the corner which was fine. Can also recommend the Osteria Al Bacareto just at the end of the street, lovely food reasonably priced and friendly staff, also not far to walk if... more
Good hotel with minor problems
Pretty good find. The place was clean and located in a very quiet square in San Marco so location wise it was great. The value was pretty good too (for Venice). There are, however, 2 minor problems (for me, anyway). They don't give you a key to the place which is always irritating for me to buzz in a hotel. I also never liked leaving the key to my room with reception everytime I leave. The concierge in the hotel stops working when the last person comes in so, technically, there is some sort of lockout (or lockin). Also, no tv in the... more
Brilliant find!
This is a lovely hotel in a quiet area of venice and the best bit - its also one of the cheapest sleeps in the city. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. We stayed in a room with a shared bathroom which was fine - obviously its nicer to have your own but for the price who cares! I'd highly recommend this place.
A great find!
I first stayed here in '97 based on a recommendation from Let's Go. I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and hospitality. It's perfect for the budget traveler and I didn't hesitate to book it again in '00. Anytime I hear of someone visiting Venice, this is the one place I have them look into. Oh, and of course Vino Vino-a great little hole in the wall restaurant!
Okay Hotel, But warm
This was a okay hotel, nothing special. But okay. I was there in Augsut 2004 and it's really warm in Italy at that time. And it's no Aircondition so it was hot, and difficult to sleep. No fan, no TV. But my own private bathroom. It's easy to get to the hotel and also to get around. I suggest to take the boat taxi 82 to San Samuel. Then its just to go straight a head and after 2 minuttes you are there. It was nice.
Bug infested inferno
Venice is a beautiful city, but our stay was marred by our hotel choice. It wasn't ABSOLUTELY terrible but it was certainly the worst hotel we stayed in during our three weeks in Italy. Bad points: No one at the hotel told us the closest vaporetto stop was closed even though we confirmed our booking a week before we arrived; no screens in windows led to bug infestation our first night (I had over 20 bites in one night! no exaggeration.); no a/c or fans led to a furnace atmosphere if we closed the windows. WORST PART:... more
Quiet pensione perfect for couples...
We toured Italy for ten days (Venice, Florence & Rome) and Albergo San Samuele was our first stop. We stayed for a weekend and it was the perfect start to a romantic one year anniversary vacation. You'll need a night key to get in after midnight, but no big deal. We didn't get home before midnight any of the nights we stayed. They also offer a very basic italian breakfast for 4.50 euro but we skipped that part. The owner is very friendly and helpful. He even called the train station for us when we had questions because we didn't speak... more
a little gem!!
I stayed here last year and have to say it was exactly right for a few days as a very cheap base in a pretty expensive city. The room was clean, staff friendly and in a good location nr to the San Samuele boat stop. Great starting point to walking around this amazing city. Have your breakfast in one of the nearby squares but take a travel kettle etc if you have to get your morning cup of tea before leaving your bed!! You must go across the road and visit the shop full of wooden sculptures, really amazing, the same sculpter has a shop in the... more
Really nice!!!
Pity "San Samuele" hasn't a web-site... but trust me: the hotel is really really nice, with wonderful location (about 30 seconds from Canal Grande and just few minutes from Piazza San Marco, but no tourists around!!!) and tiny rooms. We (me and my boyfriend) got number 10, colour blue, ensuite: perfect for romantic couples in the most romantic city of the world!!! Ask the man at the reception for restaurants: he will give you some addresses where you can taste the real venetian cousine. Good value too: ok, it's not really cheap (but what is... more

Room 10 is the room to get if you are a couple. Its great and I will be staying there again. All my friends have been very pleased with this hotel and soo easy to locate. An easy 8min walk to San Marco and restaurants and deli's nearby.Thank you Roberto and Dominic. Maree Hinchclife
