Lovely setting -but 3 stars? NO!
from jbsandown
This hotel is delightfully situated. Its right on the waterfront with a charming, quiet aspect onto the Poole harbour waterways and Brownsea Island. It was the second visit in four years for the bride and I. There is a good resident's car park immediately in front of the reception. Our room, which overlooked the harbour, was above average in terms of space and it was very comfortable with a large double bed that gave us two nights of blissful rest. But like much of this hotel, it did need a good refit. There were several problems with...

had a great time
from dorsetguy43
my partner and i stayed at salterns hotel in november,we were visiting friends in the area. We had a lovely stay, although being a little worried about the reviews on this site we decided to give it a go.I must say that it was a shock-a good one!our room was lovely recently updated i believe, with two huge picture windows overlooking the harbour. The room was immaculate, and for the price was excellent accomadation. Other areas of the hotel were excellent also, we found staff pleasant and always willing to help and i must pay the chef a...

Great Location, Shocking customer service!
from Brinke
Aside from its beautiful setting by the harbour, the hotel overall was a disappointment which was in need of some modernisation and a personality transplant! The rooms were simple but a little tired and although adequate reminded me more of a motel than hotel. We stayed in both a suite, which overlooked the harbour and in a standard room. The suite was quite large and what the room lacked in wow factor the view certainly made up for, not convinced it was worth the nightly tariff though! The standard room was obviously smaller but the double...

Don't bother

Terrible experience. Stayed for 2 nights- never again! They overcharged us and then declared "its only £10!" after I complained. We stayed in a room above the bar and at 23.30 after phoning down to ask when the live band would end (I was 34 weeks pregnant) we heard boos from one of the 2 very loud functions going on within the hotel! The breakfast service was unspeakably bad, requested 4 times for specific item and never got it. If you are happy to pay £130 to stay in what resembles a Nursing Home- go for it.
Great improvement

I come regularly to Poole with my wife and have stayed a couple of times at Salterns Hotel earlier on this year. I have to say despite the fantastic location the hotel was lacking on customer care and maintenance. Staff were appalling and no one seemed to care. Now we were told the hotel had changed hands and decided to give it another try. What a pleasant surprise: The hotel is now very well maintained and staff are customer focused. The food is delicious, very good value for money.
Don't even go there

Filthy crumbling wreck, lacksidsical service and attitude, useless housekeeping but fabulous food ... for now. I understand that the hotel is being taken over and it would seem that nothing will improve as no money is planned for refurbishment which the hotel desperately needs. Not a place to relax and enjoy oneself.
Weekendf Birthday Treat

The Salterns Poole Harbour My partner and I stayed here August 6th to 8th for my birthday. On arrival we were greeted not I would say warmly - were told the resturant was fully booked but were kindly booked in to the Cuwtoms House which was excellent. Our room was adequate but for the money not good at all. On Sunday morning our breakfast was not at all up to par and were told that they were understaffed because some of the staff had gone out the night before and had too much to drink - not what you want to here. We went out for the...

absolutely awful
from A TripAdvisor Member
We checked into this hotel and checked out again a couple of hours later. The patio doors in our first floor room did not shut properly, let alone lock, and the window looked as though it had been forced at some point. After a long drive our priority was to eat, only to be told that there was no food being served. At all. In a hotel. We were directed to what we were told was the only restaurant in walking distance - 2 minutes away. After a 10 minute walk we discovered it was fully booked. With no secure room ( I could have climed...

What a wonderful place

I have recently returned from a fantastic long weekend break at Salterns Hotel, Poole, Dorset. Not only is Poole or Sandbanks my favourite place in the country, Salterns made my stay more memorable than I can remember. True, there are somethings that could be improved however the complete atmosphere overcomes this straight away. the hotel is run by a lovely family who make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door. The new restaurant is beautiful and fresh with a wonderful ambience and the food is to die for. All the staff are very...

Could do with some improvements
from LondonCG
Stayed at Saltern's Hotel at the weekend and was rather disappointed as we found it quite down at heel. We had a large seaview room which was priced at £100 but for this money I would have expected decoration to be somewhat better - everything looked like it had seen much, much better days and the furniture in the bedroom was more in line with what I'd have expected in a very cheap B&B. We were due to have dinner in the hotel on Saturday night but hearing some lunchtime guests complaining decided to find an alternative venue...
