Disappointing
Room had a lovely view, but that was the only good thing about it. Decor was more that dated - the wallpaper was peeling and had dirty greasy marks, the carpet was stained, and the room smelt musty. The bathroom had a brown coloured suite and was very dimly lit, making it impossible to see how clean it was, but the traces of black mould around the shower gave some clue to the general state of hygiene. The bed had clean sheets, but there were clear dark stains showing through them, likewise one of the pillows. Breakfast was ok, dinner... more
Didnt sleep a wink!
We had come back from a mini-cruise and thought would spend the night before heading back home the following day. The Hotel seemed pleasant enough and when we checked in were suprised to be told we had been upgraded to a sea view room! Of which the views were amazing! The town centre was a 10 min walk away and went for something to eat and sat on the garden/grass areas. So far all is well until its 1am ish and the room next to us is talking loudly and music playing. Thin walls do not help. They went out and then we had some men out the front... more
Management response from frogfan

Dear Starshine88 . As the manager of the Seacrest Hotel I can only apologise for your experience when you stayed here with us and I can assure you that this was an isolated incident. While we do our very best to vet those who book a room with us (we do not allow groups, hen parties or stag groups) we can never guarantee how any particular guest may choose to behave. However once we learned of the trouble you were having our nightwatchman did indeed telephone the gentleman in question and asked him to be quiet. After this when the gentleman did not quieten down the guest was given one final waring to be quiet, which he did not do. At this point he was told to leave and escorted from the hotel. Your review does hint that the nightwatchman sold the room to the guest in the early hours of the morning when he was drunk and I can assure you that this was not the case, the gentleman had checked into the hotel during the afternoon and was at the time sober (or he would have been turned away) .I have spoken to the staff member who checked you out the next day and he assures me that he did apologise once again for the trouble you had had, and I can only apologise once again if you feel we did not care about your inconvenience. As for the noise from outside the hotel I do once again empathise with you however I have no control on people passing the front of the hotel.

nice pleasant place to stay
I paid a weekend visit to city of Portsmouth and can highly recommend The Seacrest Hotel, which is located in Southsea. I was a single traveller so the room I stayed in was small but clean and comfortable with TV and coffee making facilities One small quibble was my room was at the back, as the view from the front was to die for and the back was the hotel carpark. What really made up for that was the great full English breakfast and a fantastic evening meal with the best white wine I have ever tasted. The staff were... more
free off road parking
stayed at the seacrest for two nights we needed somewhere cheap with safe parking, good location ok breakfast room a bit tired but clean, friendly helpfull staff who served a good pint in the evening. only down side was hotel full of contractors who whent off to work at 6 O,clock in the morning other than that if your looking for something cheap with parking 65.00GBP for a double with full english per night then you could do worse.
most disappointing
I must have stayed in a different hotel to most of other reviewers,. The initial view on arrival in the car park at the rear was dreadful and unfortunatley things only got marginally better. Very tired decor in both bedrooms and public areas result ed in a less than enjoyable stay - thankfiully only there for 1 night. Whilst staff were helpful a major makeover need to bring the place up to date. Most disappointing for what it cost .
Tiny room!
Having read all the other reviews, I cannot believe we stayed at the same hotel! Our room was tiny, only just enough room to move around the edges of the bed. The bathroom was also very small and cold, and the whole room felt very dated. On the plus side, the breakfast was good and the staff were all friendly and helpful. Overall though, I would expect this sort of place to cost £35 per night, not the £70 we paid (we paid roughly the same for a night in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas - a whole different league!)
Great Hotel
I organised a Naval reunion weekend 5 - 7 October with the hotel and cannot praise them highly enough. Being a local I did not stay in the hotel, but did check out the rooms before booking the weekend. Comments from those who stayed there were all very good. The rooms were clean and well presented. The food was excellent and there was plenty of it. I did use the hotel facilities for our AGM and we had our reunion dinner on the Saturday night. The staff were very friendly and could not have been more helpful. Our numerous requests were met... more
Room 2
The Seacrest is in a great location, very convenient however don't let them give you room 2! It is on the ground floor and backs onto the bar where the smoke comes in, this is a non smoking hotel and perhaps they should make this a smoking room. Noise leaks in from the bar also. There is also a constant loud whirring noise from the elevator or dumb waiter, very hard to get a restful sleep in this room. The staff were absolutely lovely and helpful and the breakfast and service were excellent. Just do not stay in room 2 if you... more
One Of The Best
I travel across the UK, and make a point of staying in smaller independent friendly hotels to get away from the sanitised atmosphere of big chains. I have to say that the Seacrest is one of the very best at being independent and friendly. The rooms are clean, large, and comfortable. The food is good honest fare, well prepared. the public areas are comfortable and tidy. The staff are amazing!! Friendly, knowledgeable, keen to help. If you have to come to Portsmouth do yourself a favour and keep away from the big chains, and book into the... more
loved the seacrest!
This is an excellent hotel, rooms are very comfortable with good quality furnishings and beautifully clean. We stayed on B + B terms, the breakfast was excellent, plenty to choose from - we had full English, it was piping hot and good size helping, all served in a very pretty basement dining room. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The only down side was the traffic noise and a few noisy residents.
