GREAT View - ok Hotel
Took my family on an extended three week European vacation. (Also stayed at Harrington's in Bath, The Windermere in London & Hollmann's in Vienna) Shanklin is a beautiful little town, and the waterfront is a lot of fun. The whole vibe reminds me of what it must have been like to hit those summer sea vacation places on the east coast during the 50's & 60's. Luccombe Hall is located on a bluff, and the view really is wonderful. But that really is the best part of the place. We stayed in room 31 which is the family room. This means it is... more
A view with a hotel
Stayed here on our year anniversary of being together, for 2 nights. Honestly i really underestimated this hotel before staying here, my bofriend booked the penthouse suite, and suprised me with a romance package, that was rose petals on the bed, balloons, chocolates, chamagne on ice and red roses, it was lovely. Ok, so the bedroom decor wasn't 100% but the penthouse suite was really a nice suprise. Staff were more than friendly, facilities good, food of a very high standard and drinks were a reasonable price too. We... more
A breath of fresh air
Previous experience of staying in UK coastal hotels has not been good, with hotels demanding payment on arrival, woefully inadequate car parking and over-rated facilities, so I don't give praise easily. However, this hotel and its friendly team deserve a pat on the back for what they have achieved. The food was excellent, the staff exceptional. Even the cleaners had a friendly word and a smile which says something. Special praise to the waiter from Spain, the young barman and the friendly reception team. The facilities for a family were good... more
eggcellent easter break!!
We've just returned from a short easter break at Luccombe Hall. We had a fantastic time-the food was brilliant and the staff were helpful and friendly. Entertainment was provided in the bar each night which created a good atmosphere. Our rooms were lovely with sea views right over the channel. overall good value for money and we would certainly go back again.
Good value for money
Having just returned from an overnight stay at the hotel, the experience was overall not bad. Good service, food, views, facilities and location. Unfortunately, the hotel interior is in need of a face lift especially the bedroom (perhaps it was just the room we were in) but if you don't mind a pink bathroom suite and walking with all your bags through the dining area to get to the bedroom and walking down dark corridors then you are going to like this hotel. Apart from being "old-fashioned" it was a good comfortable hotel.
swings and roundabouts
having stayed at this hotel in february for three days i have good and bad points. I was horrified when i was given room 22 after reading a review about it but in all fairness the shower had been renewed and although the heating could have been better it was very bad weather . The view was wonderful the food excellent and the staff helpful and efficient. I would certainly take my two small grandchildren to this hotel asit caters very well for them games swimming pool food for small eaters etc. Building work on other rooms was going on but we... more
Excellent service
We have just returned from a 3 night break at this hotel-we would have given anything for our car to break down so we couldn't leave. This was our sixth, yes, sixth stay in this hotel and we will certainly be back for more.Excellent value for money with their low season ferry inclusive breaks, superb meals, very good faclities, and staff who treat you so well you don't want to leave. We think that in this case the staff make the hotel-this goes for reception and restaurant-they are so friendly and helpful that you feel they want you to be... more
Above Average Isle of Wight Hotel
My partner and I decided to stay at Luccombe Hall based on the previous Trip Advisor reviews. If one goes to the Isle of Wight expecting Hilton standard accommodation, then this isn't what you'll find. What you will find is a little old-fashioned, but that's good as well as bad. The service from the young folk who work there is excellent, especially as one has to put up with quite surly service in some places these days. The food in the restaurant is extremely good, especially as it was included in the deal, and the wine list is good if a... more
Fantastic
My husband and I chose this hotel to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We cannot stress enough how wonderful everything was. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the food was very good indeed. We stayed in a superior sea facing room which was out of this world. Looking forward to returning in the near future.
What food, what staff. Excellent.
Our group stayed for three nights in early November. We were mainly well pleased with what we found on arrival, the food and staff were excellent, as for the hotel itself we all thought it had a welcoming and cozy feel to it. On reading the previous two reports I can only feel that they were either in another hotel from the Luccombe Hall Hotel that we know, or that their expectations were levelled higher than ours. Having spent sixteen years travelling and staying in hotels in the UK and northern europe frequently, my... more
